I'm working on a bit of a project and was wondering if there's blood colors other than red in the wider 40k universe. I need to know tau/tyranids but i'm also curious about the rest of the races.

I would assume tau have a sort of blue/purple type blood? And nids would likely be a purple ichor?

Also how would you go about creating a good blood look like the new paint. Purple seems easy enough, just splash the right shade of blue into the red and you'll get a nice purple that would likely set with a gloss shine to it. But for green or blue I'm not sure, was thinking maybe mixing the GW gloss with the colors and then applying it? Seems what they did for the blood was just the old scab red with gloss mixed in?

Any thoughts?

Tyranids would probably look quite well with yellow blood too, though no idea what the fluff says.

Huh I can't remember what they were in DoW but I want to say that Tau is purple and tyranids was green or red but I wont know until I get home and check in game.

40K is fake future fluff, blood can be whatever color you want it to be; Tamiya makes a great product that comes in many colors for blood, green, yellow, red, black, etc.

Tau allegedly use cobalt as an oxygenator in their blood rathe than Iron, hence their blood is supposed to be blue.Tyranids could be any colour you like, because any given hive fleet, or part of a fleet, may have evolved some mutation that alters how the blood works and what its made of.

Cobalt II salts are only blue when free of water. The wet form, as the solution, would be pink. Just saying...

The Cain novels feature commentary from a Xenos Inquisitor, and she takes the time to say that Tau blood is indeed blue. Tyranids (of hive fleet Kraken), according to a piece of fluff from the old Epic 40k manual, have purple blood. The nice thing about the Nids is that each hive fleet is so different, so each fleet can have different colored blood to suit your needs.

Tamiya do a clear red which lots of people used for blood before the new technical paints. Tamiya also do clear green, yellow, orange and probably a blue too. Mix with some brown/black inks to vary the shades and try them out.

Acording to the Firewarrior novel of some years ago, Tau blood is Cyan in hue.

Hmmm, interesting, the hive fleet kraken bit is helpful. I'm trying to model the 8 with tons of dead tyranids/tau on the bases so the colors you guys have given me are quite helpful. Course the tau being every shade of blue/purple under the sun is quite annoying (save cobolt pink...)

He hit the nail on the head. Its all fiction so you could just paint blood what ever color you want to; it makes no difference in the real world. If your Tau's armor is already blue you might want to go with red, etc.

GW - If it ain't broke, fix it until it is.
