Subject: Perrfect Timing vs Night Fighting - Jeeez

Context: So having set up for a nice argument free game - My HQ librarian on bike rolled and passed to cast perfect timing on a nearby Plasma Cannon in a tactical squad. And my friend rolled a 4 up for Night fighting. I had turn one so was all preparing to shoot and he was suddenly like blah blah blah - night fighting gives me a 5+ cover save and I would get 4++ for being behind a hill (25% facing obscured) but we ignore that part so 5+ it is. I'm like NO.
His Problem: Perfect timing gives one model the Ignores cover special rule. Night fighting grants Stealth and Shrouded at the range my intended Damocles Rhino target was in. Night fighting is not a type of cover so why should I get it.
My problem: Stealth and Shrouded from Night-fighting are COVER saves whether its call night-fighting or monkey rustling. I agreed the 36" limitation still applies as that's not a cover stipulation (maybe even that's too generous), but a range stipulated exclusion from night fighting, but the cover ordinarily given from night-fighting at differing ranges is negated.
It stressed me out and well play again - can anyone clarify?
Thanks

He would get Stealth OR shrouded based on range, not both.
So he would gain Shrouded, which modifies his cover save.
Which "Ignore Cover" then ignores.
But the big question is:
How did you roll on the Divination tree with a Librarian on a bike?

On a different note. You cant cast perfect timing on a nearby plasma cannon. Perfect timing targets the psyker and his squad. So the caster has to be part of the squad when the blessing is cast to let the plasma cannon benefit. You cant cast it on units that the psyker isnt joined to.

simple soloution, ask him what the stealth/shrouded provide.
then ask him to look up the term 'ignores cover'.
then ask him to show you where it says that the cover save stealth/shrouded provides is exempt from the ignores cover rule.

Thats a not so fun but effective way to have a rule stick in your head. That "story" that you will likely tell future opponents will cause you to not forget it so soon.
I've accumulated a fair few of those over the last 20years or so. lol
