It's this. Only this. I've recently developed a love for Indian food, and I swear I could live off of it and not get bored. Spinach and Lentil curry is amazing, I could eat it by the pound and it's pure health. Chicken Tikka Masala, Bhuna chicken, Vindaloo, Sonoma (tried for the first time last night)...I love it. I haven't actually found an Indian dish that I've disliked-and I usually hit the buffet and try everything. The worst I've said about any of the dishes is "well, that wasn't bad, but I'd rather eat more of this." I hate eggplant, but my step sister's boyfriend got an eggplant dish a couple weeks ago, and I found myself thoroughly enjoying it. I'm very impressed with that style of cooking. Cumin, turmeric, garam masala, cardomin...yeah, it's all good. Made some with my dad the day after Thanksgiving and my health nut of a step mom couldn't stop eating, even after she was stuffed. It's good. Very good. Not edible in car though.

Curry is the greatest food on the planet.

Now what type of meets?

Chicken? Beef? Steak? I've had fish with it was interesting to say the least.

Lamb for me. Its expensive but damn. Lamb tastes great with everything.

Chicken. Always the best.
Korma, masala, anything. Chicken is the best meat for curry. Even those dodgy not entirely proper places it's still tastes pretty good.

Goat makes fantastic curry.

Another favourite, is an Arabic delicacy,
Foul Tamiz.
We get it at work sometimes for breakfast.
Also known as bread 'n dip.
It's fresh cooked flat bread which is very much like Naan.
It's served with a selection of accompaniments,
we usually get;
Foul Medammes (Fava beans that are cooked down to a hummus like texture and seasoned with spices)
Akind of lentil daal,
and Shatsuka, which is scrambled egg with cheese onion and chilis.
we usually get a bag of falafel to go with it too.
The person who goes to get it gets to eat some bread fresh out of the oven.
It's awesome.
And what's more, it's really cheap.
I buy enough to feed 6 people for about $6

Goat or Mutton are good. Beef currys can be good if done right, although too often the beef is chewy. Chicken is good when it is a tandoori. Covered in sauce it just becomes a carrier for the sauce rather than anything of value IMO.

Yeah its chicken for me too, though Lamb is good occasionally.

I generally hate home made or shop bought curries but I recently found an Indian chap selling authentic curry house recipe Tikka spice mix at a farmers market (not that supermarket crap). Trying to stay near as I could to authentic I made a batch on the BBQ. 6 skewers were made with the intention of leaving 4 for dinners in the week, i'm not a big eater but suffice to say that 1 and a half were left at the end of the day - Fan-fething-tastic!

Also onion bhajis. I could happily eat these with salad and nothing else all day every day. True I would be fat and smelly but I would be the happiest fat smelly man in the world!

I'll agree that curry is delicious, and I love cooking it. The only problem I have with curry is that my apartment smells like it for the next day and a half after making it!

Give me most saucy chicken wings burried in cattlemens BBQ sauce, hot sauce, and mango.

Last time I had them, I devoured 2 pounds like it was nothing - the waitress was impressed lol.

On the subject of curry, as that's what this thread has basically become, I had an omelette curry for the first time the other week, and it was just epic. Just an omelette and potatoes in a curry sauce, simple but absolutely delicious.

Curry pro tip.

When you go to an Indian restaurant ask what the chefs will be cooking for themselves, then ask to have some cooked for you.

Almost certainly it will be a lot better than what the menu shows.

I second this question. How is a house that smells of curry a bad thing? I find the smell glorious.

Also asking the restaurant for stuff that isn't on the menu works just as well-when you take an interest, it'll be better. Then again, I have a fantastic Indian restaurant nearby. The naan for the "buffet" is made fresh for each table-you don't pick it up from the buffet, they bring it to you. They also bring Somosa and tandoori chicken with multiple chutneys over. It's outta this world. I need it again. Need!!

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

I'm very underwhelmed by Indian food in general. It's fine...I don't dislike it. But I guess the flavors just aren't that interesting to me. I'd probably choose just about any other Asian cuisine over it. File me under "doesn't get it."

As far as what makes my mouth water, I can't go wrong with grilled meat. The kind of grilled meat depends upon my mood. It might be a nice filet, or Korean BBQ, or the simple pleasures of a really good burger.

I'm in a similar boat with gorgon. I've had Indian food a number of times with the little lady. She really likes it, but it only rates an OK with me.

I get tired of smelling it. I don't want to wake up, go downstairs, and smell curry when I'm trying to make breakfast and get ready for work. That smell just seems to cling to your clothes and never go away.

The owner gave me 20% off my entire bill one day because she cancelled the regular buffet due to weather. We ordered three dishes and naan, and she then gave us free dessert when I asked her if she had some of the semolina pudding they make-it was great. I'd eat there every day, if I could. Work gets in the way though.

I'd be okay with people smelling like curry. Especially a girlfriend. Would make for some fun nibbling.

Allow me to second mega_bassist.

I looked at 25-30 houses when I moved to just North of Chicago.

The worst house I looked at actually had the best floor plan, HUGE finished basement, and great decking in the back yard.

HOWEVER, it reeked of curry. Reeked. Every room. You couldn't get away from it. Every wall would have to be repainted and the carpet would have to be removed to get rid of the smell, and even then, I'm not so sure. My fiance, who loves Indian food, even said "Hell no" to this house.

Curry is nice to eat, nay awesome.

One of the worst smells in the world is the back of a curry house. X10 if you have a hangover and the aftertaste of a cuzza from about 11.30pm the night before.

That said the smell at the back of nearly all restaurants are disgusting. (Btw I'm not an environmental health officer but used to deliver magazines to top end hotels/restaurants so had the pleasure of the back of house at many restaurants - never go to the Wardorf on the Strand btw!)
