I actually liked Warhammer Visions.
A lot.

First time in years that I spent more than an hour with my subscribed WD. Sure it is more like the Cool Mini or Not annual (but much cheaper and with only WH minis!) but this is exactly what I was expecting/ hoping for.
An inspiring Warhammer Coffey Table Book.

As for Warhammer Weekly, I like that magazine too and it will definitely stop by my local WH store once a week in order to get it.

As have been previously said here I also think the WV is a way to phase out the current subscriptions of WD. I will renew my subscription and hope WV survives at least half a year longer.

Well arent I glad I didnt buy either of these

Did look at a quick youtube review of the WD weekly, and I'l admit it struck me as improved over the dead and burried monthly version. But still not worth my money. Pretty much zero unique content. Dakka Dakka is a million times better hobby resource than WD ever was, so they were already fighting an uphil battle tbh.

Are these new weekly books selling like hotcakes? I'm hoping to get one before their out. My local store made it sound like they might run out.

I can't imagine they are :/ .. but they have been pushing pretty hard for them to...
I'd like to see it be a huge success and generate income for GW to justify paying a team of writers to write the thing properly! Just cant see that happening with GW track record, the whole thing strikes me as a quick cash cow to enable a reboot of monthly WD down the line.

There was a sketch on the Simpsons (I think) where the people at Buzz Cola made it taste foul purely in order to reboot it as 'classic style' down the line. - actually no it was Futurama with Slurm

Versteckt in den Schatten deines Geistes.

I just thought of a potential problem with the Weekly WD:

It's just week after week of the same release. Week 1? Dwarves. Week 2? More Dwarves! It's going to get very dull very quickly.

Now I know what some of you are thinking - "But old WD only had one big release, and that was for a whole month!" - and yes, that's true, but it's a by-product of being a monthly magazine. GW has the luxuary - a golden opportunity really - of a weekly rag now, so can alternate between the weeks.

Imagine if the set-up was:

Week 1 - Dwarves 1st Wave.
Week 2 - Tyranid 2nd Wave.
Week 3 - Dwarves 2nd Wave + Army book.
Week 4 - Some overpriced Hobbit crap/hobby related stuff (paints or whatever).

And then each month did that, alternating between release types so that players of all colours and creeds had a go at something, rather than knowing that week after week would be yet another irrelevant magazine tied to releases they don't care about.

This assumes GW cares even a modicum about content. They'll fill week 2 up with the same pictures from week 1 with the addition of some more phonebook pages if they have to.

I can't speak for other countries, but the GW UK site lists issue one of Weekly as sold out. So I'd guess it's down to people buying it to see what it's like.

I will be interested to see if they can keep WV going for long. Sooner or later they will run out of studio armies.

The supply does not get to make the demands.

That sounds like pressure selling 101 - make it sound like the customer needs to hurry and buy something before it's too late.

I suspect that sales of the first issue will be quite high, with lots of people buying out of curiosity/inertia, but what will be more interesting in the 2nd installment when people are already aware of what it is.

There were still stacks of them at my store when I flicked through it on Monday.

Yeah, I suspect that'll be the case for most actual GW shops, just the mail order trolls have eaten their stack after mistaking it for a gobbo. Though my local GW store is closed today, so can't go and check.

Local GW or Local Wargaming store...?

If it's the former, they'll say anything to make people panic buy

GW run out? Never, they'll just re-use the same photos from different angles

I'm pretty sure they were saying 'buy it before it sells out' for every issue of the old WD too, yet each month my FLGS threw out a half a dozen.

Oh, I certainly vote with my dollar, but the problem is that that is not enough. The problem with the 'vote with your dollar' response is that it doesn't take into account why we're not buying the product. I want to enjoy 40k enough to buy back in. It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that.

It could happen if rumours about the new Chaos Marines sets being released out of synch with a Codex are true. People who wouldn't pay £5.50 for 4 pages of content in a monthly WD may be willing to pay the "pot of paint" price for 4 pages in a weekly version.

Interesting review.

I have one of the digital version. Dont for the love of god buy it.

Seriously, whilst I think the paper one is overpriced, it is at least nicely presented. The epub version is utter tripe. I dont mean just not good content, because it doesnt really have much in the way of content, but it is an awful book. Its badly produced, its horrible to use, it is just plain amateurish. I've read plenty of self published ebooks and every one had higher production values that this thing.

Its an insult to customers. More so than visions.

How can they mess it up? surely just creating a pdf out of the files for the printed version woudlve sufficed? (making them identical - basically zero work)

Part of the work in making ebooks is adjusting the layout to make sure it displays nicely in different screen sizes/resolutions.

They don't seem to do much of that.

Ahh yeah I can see how that is important. The exact same way that website developers need to do it. GW don't strike me as the most internet/computer savvy company - the internet interaction policies demonstrate this perfectly. So its no wonder they aren't doing it right (and they're not willing to talk to you online to find out that its wrong or how it should be )

GW/BL screw up epub versions every time, which is why I have bought so few of their ebooks....they can be awful to read.

Yeah. The SoB codex looks fine on my father's kindle, and horribly horrible on my laptop.
