I'm sure he was thinking of the 4th ed codex, which did have Tyrannic War Veterans as an entry

Yeah, I took a break from 40k for awhile and paint far more than I play (hopefully games room will be finished soon!), so despite having purchased all of the codices over the years, I sometimes miss out on when they remove/change units/characters/special rules.

Sorry, I haven't been following this data files, are they considered fully 'authorized' with the current 40k rules, or are they opponent's permission only?

Ask the people you are playing against. IIRC the verbiage is such that they are 100% legal. But so are stronghold and escalation, and some people have issues with those. If you plan on playing in a tournament, ask the TO.

It's 100% legal but from what Ive seen no one wants to play against it. Its being treated like forgeworld or an expansion.

Rick Priestley said it best:
Bryan always said that if the studio ever had to mix with the manufacturing and sales part of the business it would destroy the studio. And I have to say – he wasn’t wrong there! The modern studio isn’t a studio in the same way; it isn’t a collection of artists and creatives sharing ideas and driving each other on. It’s become the promotions department of a toy company – things move on!

I'm actually looking forward to this dataslate, I'm hoping there's more than just that one datasheet in there though, but hopefully it'll be worth it, if only for the fluff.

Poor nids, I guess GW thinks they need more help getting beat.

*shakes fist at karma*

Mine worked perfectly. I just refreshed the BL download page constantly that day until I could download it.

So how much of that 10 minutes that you saved by pre-ordering did you spend refreshing the page...?

And no doubt will be until GW compile them into a book, or at the very least into a single downloadable document. People don't like playing against stuff that they don't have easy access to, and anyone who isn't computer-savvy isn't likely to have even heard of any of these dataslates.

If I hadn't pre-ordered, I would have been refreshing the order page all day until it said I could buy, so I didn't actually lose any time. To say that I was excited (and am excited) about the AS digidex is an understatement.

They're doing preorders for tiny ebook releases?
They have been from the start.

Nobody is quite sure why.
Same reason as any other pre-order: to cost on hype before anyone can read a review.
