No need to explain yourselves in posts, but feel free to. There are multiple threads regarding everything Tyranids almost. This thread is for me (and any others) who want to know what Dakka thinks of the new Codex, as obviously we've all read numerous amounts these past few days (and months, less important so!). And tbf, if you're a Nid fan you've already spent a while reading, flicking, cruising through the book.
I've removed the "multiple choice answers" to prevent over-use of people showing their disappointment, criticisms or concerns.
Hope this is within the rules as couldn't see anything against it. And so far i've been unable to grasp the general main concern through reading. Please keep the flaming to a minimum to prevent closure as i want to know where the majority lies. Thanks!
My vote:
"Lack of fun, variety, or sillyness."
Because:
The Reaper of Obliterax for example is almost just a mix of already available biomorphs and weapons, but for extra unnecessary points on things like Tyrants.
Same for the Miasma Cannon Blast.
Bio-Artefacts that are "one only" but yet fairly priced so certainly not overpowering considering what we don't have.
ONLY 7 psychic powers.
Tail weapons that don't stack. But yet use the same WS as the owner of the tail. Maybe something with wings could have poisoned wings which because they're so wide it's easy to land an attack, so +2 WS for a wing attack. Or a Trygon with his huge tail hits always on a 2+ with poisoned/ rending/ haywire.
Pointless Scything Talons.
Boring Instinct Behaviours make the Tyranids seem quite docile. 30 Hormagaunts that on a roll of 4+ 13" away from the enemy will pitch tents, make fires and cook some marshmallows.
Genestealers. Infiltrate, camp or die. Nothing was done with them. Even if you get them to work, they're boring as hell still.
Trygon Tunnel. So enemies can just walk *ahem* i mean float over it still? He's a BIG creature, there's probably a pretty deep whole that even a space marine couldn't jump over. "Forge a narrative". Yeah, that's right random pick up gaming friend. YOU'RE spending a turn filling them holes in before you move over them. haha
My FMCs are pretty good at flying. They goes 24" miles per hour, or (kph if you prefer). They do struggle to turn though cause they're going so fast. Surprising that the weather never sends them off course too! I imagen all them worlds we're invading have good weather, well we wouldn't want to get wet after all...
I could pick at this book all day. Now for some creative thinking...
Examples i'd like to have seen: (These were brain stormed quickly though!) (rules, points, models, timescale not worth deciding, takes too long to balance.) (maybe a whole half hour per rule, eh, GW?)
Ballistic Rage.
When a Hormagaunt unit looses 75% of it's brood it gains Rage.
Biomass Absorbed.
The fleet has now finished absorbing mass from a previous battle.
You may bring on (special/ backup) reserves from your board edge.
Agile Flyer.
FMCs can opt to run 2D6 as normal in their shooting phase instead of shooting ONE of their weapons, before or after firing.
Scything Talons.
Scything Talons aren't just used as weapons, but some have seen the Tyranids using them to scale up walls and negotiate terrain at alarming rates.
Rolls 4 dice when moving through cover, and picks single highest dice roll to move.
Terror. (name stole from some rule i can't remember from when i played when i was a kid. I've almost been playing 9 months again.)
A Tyranid charging full pelt upon squads of even the hardest warrior can't help but envision terrifying outcomes from the incoming attack.
Overwatching units must pass an initiative test on 1D6. You must add 2 to the result if they're outnumbered or being charged by a MC. A failed test results in D3 + 'the amount the quad failed by on the initiative test' models buckling under pressure and not shooting in time. A competent unit would of pre-empted the attack!
A predictive initiative (Warlord Trait) (Swarmlord always has)
The Hive Fleet has experienced such armies numerous amount of times, predicting their formation and strategies before they've done so.
If using the Swarmlord you can either steal the initiative on a 2+ D6 roll or redeploy up to D3 units 6"s forward of your deployment zone.
Warp Burst
The Hive Mind has become very competent within the warp, impossible to track or understand how, it's powers have been seen to decimate entire squads in one blast of light.
If 3 or more Level 2+ Psychers are within 6" of each other, they may combine their energies into one Warp Burst. Each model must pass a psychic test in order to manifest successfully, if any fail all those psychers may not do anything else this turn as the feedback from the warp being overpowering. A successful result is resolved with the following rule: Ordinance 1, Large Blast, Strength 4 + amount of psychers casting, AP2, with a 36" range. This may not be cast in the following turn, but psychers can operate as per normal though.

No allies is a missed opportunity.
Would love to ally some 'Nids to a Chaos army and proxy a Mutalith Vortex Beast as Haruspex.
Or a few Genestealers with a Ordo Xenos Inquisitor / Grey Knights.

Boiling down the numerous issues of the Tyranid Codex to a single main concern isn't really practical. This poll needs to be one where you can pick multiples.

As mentioned i whole heartedly agree. But people are still frustrated, and with that frustration people will be likely to click them all and it won't help. But people of course are welcome to comment if they wish.

Slight fluff issue though, since 'Nids don't do alliances.
I guess that Genestealer cults would be an exception, but that's just Genestealers, not the Tyranids as a whole.

The survey basically needs to allow us to select multiple options because so many of them apply!
Allies can be justified as splinter fleets working together, it's still one hive mind afaik. As it stands, no allies is a very big handicap that basically eliminates much of what other armies can bring to the table. At least allowing an extra force org slot or something would go a long way!
The psychic powers are Ok and would be better if the primaris was something you'd want every game. No access to BrB doesn't really make sense.
As I try to make a list, I'm being forced into looking at only a very limited set of units/options in terms of being viable in a competitive setting...
Many things still cost too much despite a "points drop". The points drops were NOT buffs but a slight and minuscule reversal of the heavyhanded nerfs from the previous codex. Plus virtually all upgrades or options got more expensive and watered down in some way so everything actually got more expensive-it's the same shady sales mechanic a store owner does, mark things up rediculously high then say "sale!" And mark things down to what thier pre-sale prices really should have been. Anyone looking at the cost of units in the new codex as a buff are falling victim to the oldest sales trick in the book...
Tyrants really should have been around 150ish, warriors around 20, carnifexes around 105, upgrades should NOT be as limited and expensive as they are, brood lord should have some grenade pack upgrade (spine banks could have done this). The list goes on in terms of what the problems and missed opportunities are/were :(.

Yes, they have Synapse, but Synapse holds no benefits in this book, only downsides for not being in it.

For me, a couple of things.
First, though I could go with Synapse in the 5th (and was almost considering moving my hormagaunts outside the range), in 6th, instinctive behavior for feed turns every unit with this into ripper swarms basically.
Second, with overwatch and nerfs to Tyranid melee like scything talons losing the re-roll to hits, this makes any non-shooting units kind of bad (well... at least in my opinion. I could be wrong).

That and forcing synapse on anything with feed will kill 50% of the unit. So I really hope nid players properly cover those hormagaunts they keep going on about.

I suppose, but that'd be pretty big re-write, since the Tyranids are meant to be a one-track hive mind. I mean, I guess they could do a Necron-style re-write, but I think that it's good to have one massive, unthinking threat within the setting.

Remove Genestealers from the troops section into elites, make them 5-10 and give them snap shots on the first turn they enter. Up there points to 20 ppm (roughly), remove deep strike and make them beasts.
Drop a point of strength on the Carnifex (not required, plus your going to have furious charge anyway) and up the WS by 1 or knock off 5 points.
Give OOE and Deathleaper either Synapse or remove there instincts (like stealers).
The one off artifacts are waaayyyy too highly costed, drop 10 points off most of them immediately!
Give the Broodlord an option to take the grenades
Just those would make a big difference.
