So, anybody try it? Find any good uses for it?
I guess a deep strike heavy army list could use it, but then again, the bearer must first kill in CC to unlock it, meaning that it will probably be earliest Turn 2. So from turn 3 potentially, deep striking troops do not scatter.

Yeah and seeing that in 6th reserves comes in on a 3+, there is good chances that your units in DS will already be on the table, before you activate the key.
This is why its a useless shack of points.

I ran it for a number of games to try and get it to work. Best solutions I could find (and the dice really need to go your way) was to give it to a lord on with a jump pack. Use Arhiman or Huron to infiltrate him with a max squad of raptors with MoK and the IoW. If you go second there is a good chance of getting into close combat. I really wouldn't plan my strategy around this. You need to go second, you need to roll 2 on a d3 for the infiltrate, not get shot to pieces, and get them within charge distance. It only worked 1 of 4 games I tried it. 2 of the 4 my opponent realized what I was up to and just ran away as fast as they could, and the 3rd I went first. When it did work I just had termies and oblits everywhere they needed to be and it was brilliant. I'd also include an Aegis with a Comms relay to get as much in when it does work. You could use it to delay your deepstrikers for a turn but its still not guaranteed.

It has the same problem as Dark Angels Porta-rack or Dark Eldar's Soul Trap(I think that's what it was).... it doesn't activate for a while.
If you are ever running a LONG game (I'm thinking an all-weekend Apoc game with more than 8 turns) it could potentially game-breaking but in most standard environments, its use is rather limited.
With that being said, it is unique and neat. I suppose a JuggerAxe Lord with one could do things with it if you are running 3+ DS things.

Perhaps treat the deep-strike thing as a bonus, and consider ways to exploit the 12" radius bubble of dangerous terrain.

Unless your fighting an army of 6+ saves, it really doesn't work that well. If this was 5th edition it might be worthwhile, but as they get their saves now..

Mmh well the other my DA opponent managed to loose its Banner that give FnP in a 12" due to a dangerous terrain and a Apothicary in the same turn.
When the dice doesn't like you...
The Key would be worthwhile id at least it gave a beacon-like rule if units DS in 6" of the Lord, and then if you kill someone and you activate its power you get the dabgerous terrain bubble and the No Scatter on the table.

I don't know if anyone remembers the other power the key has, causing units that start the turn within 12 inches of the bearer to have to take dangerous and difficult terrain tests when they move.
I totally get why people see value in arriving from reserves, but, honestly, the thing is meant as a force multiplier. It gives an IC the ability to slow the enemy down and cause some wounds just by standing there, and anyone coming in afterwards from reserves is just gravy.

Best use I've had was on a Lord/Sorceror with MoT on a steed. Turn 1 dash across the board then killing something during Turn 2.

The dangerous terrain thing will be handy when fighting against assault armies. Anything without grenades also gets initiative penalized when charging through dangerous terrain, so if they have to roll, they'll go last.
Could help against DE beast packs, etc.

The best part about this imo is the terrain part of the key. As stated, the non-scatter is pretty useless....
So who benefits from this bubble of terrain? Shooty HQs.
Ahriman? No, he cant take it.
So that leaves us with sorcerers, but they can only cast one witchfire per turn....
not the best item. Maybe if you stick him with a very shooty squad like thousand sons or noise marines, then the field can be used to help protect them more-so than the holder...

Useless, absolutely useless. Even with the most forceful shoehorning its still not guaranteed to come out properly and is not worth its points. A shame because the idea is good but having to get that cc kill also is just such a burden.
