I have been watching for new Tyranid battle reports. There are a couple starting to trickle out, anyone seen any they thought were impressive?

I think it's pretty clear, after watching and reading various Tyranid BatReps, that the prices on some Tyranid units have definitely gone down. I think all the naysayers will have a hard time arguing against that fact.

Therefore I declare the Codex an unmitigated success.

Oh please, unmitigated success? On a scale of 1 to "I'd kill someone for it", it's clearly the best GW publication ever.

In a week, Tyranids will be 'tfg op', just like always happens.

Eh. I like the codex. Can't wait to write up a new BR for you guys, we shall see when I get another game in!

I'll eat my keyboard if the Tyranid codex ends up being OP on the level of Wave Serpent spam or screamer/seer stars. It's totally self-contained right now and there isn't much room for shenanigans.

I give it a few weeks before some strong builds start showing up and Tyranids end up back at or slightly above the power level of the 5th edition dex.

Only once supplements and data slates start coming out will there be a chance for true brokenness. I don't think there's anything magic waiting to be discovered within the vanilla dex, but self-allying with weird supplement/dataslate rules could end up breaking the game any number of ways.

A week later -

Supplement - Trygon Primes.

Allows you to field an army of entirely trygon primes.

It's more likely though that they will release a supplement containing the rules for a Spore Pod, along with an actual model, banking on everyone throwing their or selling them after they disappeared from the codex. That seems to be a GW thing to do.

The only bat rep I've seen was the one from frontline gaming in which the tau/eldar player gives hundeds of extra points to the nid player, turn all his vehicles backwards and takes the worst powers himself and gives the best powers to the nids.

I love how people think a week is going to make the tyranid codex good. NEWSFLASH Cinderella: Your Cruddex is a flop. Perhaps you can buy an dataslate power upgrade for a low, low price in a couple weeks. The problems are myriad and if you think their is any "hidden good build" you are in denial.

In all the hoo-haa, with the Blind Apologists, the Righteous Few and the Heinous Sarcasm-repeaters, there's been more heat than light. The new codex has great possibilities but a real problem with troops. If the Vanguard Infestation dataslate released this month rehabilitates genestealers, we might have a pretty good army. I miss the little fellas.

I somewhat agree, Genestealers is a step in the right direction, but needs more. Trygon tunnels or Mycetic Spores minimum. I can deal with Raveners being ignored once again, Rippers just went from worthless to worthless anyway, I can deal with Tyranid table over BRB it's not terrible, but there's two things I can't deal with, 1 viable troop choice and the loss of our only transport being replaced by a Haruspex ~_~ severely limits our playstyle options. Genestealers is half the fix towards a "satisfactory" codex (but still fathoms left for improvement), needs a minimum of spores to Trygon tunnels before I'll hush up.

I think your relying on false hope on these data slates.

Theyll probably be like the ones we saw i the run up to xmas, something like :

take 1 broodlord
take 1+ units of lictors
take 1+ units of genestealers
gain some minor rule that does little

At best if they fix the problem it just shows how dispicable gw are - selling a broken codex then selling a fix!

Guys while the sarcastic responses were somewhat humourous at first, it's getting a tad stale.

Is it not reasonable that people might want to have an actual discussion about the codex without it getting mocked by the first reply?

Personally i'm looking forward to seeing what people come up with and if anybody mitigates what everybody has been saying online with some actual battle reports. There's still hope.
