Subject: Creature Caster: Update #81 Manufacturing commences...at last pg36
While I take mental health very seriously, the latest update casts serious doubt on an important claim Jeremy made on the frontage of the Kickstarter, one I actually backed based on.
He has experience in manufacture, retail and fulfilment.
Now, if he's just an artist and not a businessman, that should have been clearly stated when he launched the project. He made it sound as if he started this company with all the experience required, not that he was just an artist who actually had no idea what he was doing.
It doesn't matter what he chooses to refer to himself as, once you take people's money, you're a business man.
There’s a difference between having a hobby and being a narcissist.

I'd just like to point out that I don't for one moment believe that Jeremy had an actual breakdown, but if it is true then he has my deepest sympathies.

I've had to re-read that section of the update a few times and I am still unclear about whether or not the new caster is in China. Jeremy went on and on about being in control of the production process, so that led me to think that he found a place domestically to produce the models, but I may be misreading his post.
If he did go with a Chinese caster I think Jeremy's fears of recasting are legitimate and likely to happen, but at this point I just want my gak so I really don't care what becomes of his IP. If production in China gets this campaign over with, well so be it.
I know what you mean. I read it a few times as well. It seemed to me the way he said the backup was in China and he was worried about quality only to follow it up with how good the test casts were made me think he's going with a Chinese caster.
Which could be fine but from previous experience there has been a history of the costs and timeline provided by some of them to be highly subject to change. I could easily see this going even further south given Jeremy's business acumen (or lack there of it seems) Especially if the move to this caster is financially driven.

Good point. I am now on board with your interpretation! I wonder if he has accounted for Chinese New Year and the delay that holiday causes manufacturing. Probably not, so tack on another month to his estimated 4-month production time.

Yeah, I am pretty skeptical about that too. Of course, regardless of the truth the end result seems to be working in Jeremy's favor. The KS comments are VERY sympathetic to his health now. Should make for a fun climate in a few months when more delays crop up and people start to bitch, and white knights come stampeding in to urge us to think of Jeremy's health and well-being. Oh, the drama... I can see it now!

I didn't back this or even think of backing this so I have no horse in this race, but I just wanted to say...Gawd damn you guys are worse than a bunch of catty teenagers. Did this Kickstarter, like, steal your boyfriend during summer vacation or something?
...
I am jokingly referring here to the almost gleeful anticipation of failure - not to any sober discussion of problems/concerns.
Also my apologies if the KS creator did, in fact, steal your boyfriend last summer. That's not cool.

I don't think anyone here does (or should!) want Creature Caster to fail! I think folks just want to see production get underway, but hopefully that is now imminent

Delayed KS with plenty of updates (on KS) and signs of progress however slow happening generate understanding (and if necessary sympathy)
infrequent updates (often not on KS and in the form of fairly long videos), little signs of progress, and talks about yoga retreats tends to make those waiting cranky
it's also made worse when the project creator is around and talkative on forums during the KS, but stops posting completely the moment their KS is completed

You are mistaking gleeful anticipation of failure for cynicism on our part regarding Jeremy's ability to follow through with his promises.
The guy has botched this campaign pretty well, and we are out money-not you.

What gleeful anticipation of failure are you referring to? People are not gleeful, they are irritated that it might fail and never deliver, annoyed at the delay and crappy communication and poking fun at how flimsy his excuses are.
Well so the first boxes of casts will be sent to him in four months....but how many of those are there? is that enough to fulfill any of the pledges? Or will he keep hold of them until he gets them all so he doesn't have to pick who to ship to? or will the first boxes all be only one model so he won't be able to fulfill any pledges as most people went in for more than one item? Yeah so I still think you are looking at christmas of next year for delivery.

I agree, and just be clear for the mentally deficient, am in no way gleefull the product I payed for is long overdue.
Theres been no mention of packing or distribution, I'm guessing there's still quite a few hurdles ahead.

Well technically I could be a troll as I got my refund. I don't wish bad on him or anyone receiving these, but this is like a car wreck, I just have to watch.

Sadly it kind of doesn't matter anymore for me as I no longer play the game I was getting these for anyway. Just planning on having display pieces for the four powers now.
"Holy Sh*&, you've opened my eyes and changed my mind about this topic, thanks Dakka OT!"
From the most recent update it really sounds like he is doing the casting. Did this change? Or did he move to England, because he's talking about going back up to the factory like it was a quick trip.
I was really wondering what was going to happen since the CAD$ is 30% less than it was when this finished the pledgemanager (vs. US$).

He decided the quality wasn't good enough so he's doing it in the UK last I heard. I believe this decision was influenced by comments/PM from concerned backers after he mentioned the possibility of using China.

But I thought he was only considering doing it in China in the first place because the UK casters couldn't make whatever commitments he wanted?

"The language of modern British politics is meant to sound benign. But words do not mean what they seem to mean. 'Reform' actually means 'cut' or 'end'. 'Flexibility' really means 'exploit'. 'Prudence' really means 'don't invest'. And 'efficient'? That means whatever you want it to mean, usually 'cut'. All really mean 'keep wages low for the masses, taxes low for the rich, profits high for the corporations, and accept the decline in public services and amenities this will cause'." - Robin McAlpine from Common Weal

Update #83 from Creature Caster: First Wave
Spoiler:
Jan 9 2016
Mother molds being completed. First casts are looking great!
I have been nose deep in manufacturing, and it is going better than expected. The quality of rubbers and resin has gone up since I was casting for Ultraforge! The production molds are behaving beautifully and the resin casts are bubble-free and looking sharp!
The production molds are yielding greater numbers than expected. This is due to some great mold spacing and design. Shout out to the mold makers for doing some fine work. You can see us using up the last bit of pink rubber and are moving ahead with the blue. The identical molds are made from 'mother molds'. The entire process is painstaking and arduous, and is well worth it.
The models pile up as they are de-molded and placed in a pile to be sorted later. Here you can see a lot of Treewalker butts. If you look closely you will see multiple smaller vent rods, as opposed to larger bulkier ones. The biggest vent will usually stem from the male joint block, while the smaller ones connect to the model. We have taken extra care to make sure that you will not get any big blocky bits of sprue attached to the surface detail.
We then line up the parts and inspect them for quality assurance. We will even be removing the big casting block from the top of the part. This will reduce the overall package weight and your shipping cost. These particular pieces are as good as resin casting gets. Not a single air bubble, and a mold line that is practically invisible.
I am headed back up to the factory on Wednesday and will take more pics of the space itself.
Until then, I am going to be filming a conversion I am doing on a Vulture Demon that I have here in the studio. This conversion involves some sculpting, and I will be presenting the conversion as a tutorial in case you wish to do the same. As casts begin to arrive I am able to start painting them and do conversions on them. This content should be fun and gives us something to do while the models are cast.
Once all the mother molds are done, I can record how long it takes to yield models from the molds, and get a better idea about how long exactly casting will take to complete. This means after another while in casting, I can let you know a more accurate timeline of when you can expect to receive your models. As of now, I am still dealing in ballpark figures.
The really good news is that these models cast up great, and the casting quality is among the best in the world. Thank you again for your patience. I know that seeing the models makes waiting even harder. Your patience and support mean so much to me in what are often trying times. I really appreciate it.

Being a Kickstarter I went into it knowing that there was a chance I'd never get what I pledged for, and that whatever the expected delivery was would be wrong and I'd simply get it when I get it, but I am still a bit disappointed it's taking so damn long
