The Horus Heresy Legiones Astartes: Crusade Army List is a 96 page hard back book containing the complete profiles, special rules and wargear, compiled and updated, for the core Legiones Astartes Legion Crusade Army list for Warhammer 40,000 and the Battles in the Age of Darkness gaming expansion. It allows Horus Heresy players to carry something lighter to their Warhammer 40,000 games than the weighty tomes of our main volumes, and is also intended to be used both as a resource for constructing and collecting your armies, and as a handy reference during play.
The contents of this book have been drawn from across the three volumes of Forge World's Horus Heresy Isstvan Trilogy series, and are intended to be used alongside its companion book The Horus Heresy Legiones Astartes: Isstvan Campaign Legions, which provides the special rules and unique units and characters for the specific Legions featured in the epic conflict of the Horus Heresy's opening stages. It can also be used as a basis to build a Great Crusade army list for any of the Space Marine Legions.
For a complete list of the book's contents, click here. This book is available to pre-order now and will be despatched from Monday 19th May. This book will also be available to purchase at the Horus Heresy Weekender event on the 17th and 18th May.
The Horus Heresy Legiones Astartes: Isstvan Campaign Legions is a 116 page hard back book that collects together the Space Marine Legions appendix entries from the first three of Forge World's Horus Heresy books - The Isstvan Trilogy. As such it is intended to be used alongside its companion book The Horus Heresy Legiones Astartes: Crusade Army List.
Included in the book are specific rules, units and special characters - including the mighty Primarchs - for the Emperor's Children, Death Guard, Sons of Horus, World Eaters, Word Bearers, Night Lords, Iron Hands, Salamanders,
Iron Warriors, Alpha Legion, Imperial Fists and Raven Guard, all drawn together for ease of reference whether you are preparing for or playing a game of Warhammer 40,000, or planning the next addition to your collection.
For a complete list of the book's contents, click here. This book is available to pre-order now and will be despatched from Monday 19th May. This book will also be available for purchase at the Horus Heresy Weekender event on the 17th and 18th May.

The first of many, I hope. Could I possible have a Codex: Death Korps with some variant armylists and other FW goodies, which would incidentally be easier to lug around than IA12.

I was hoping (and expecting) those to get a separate release. I'll already have them, thanks to the collector's edition (which has an actual tangible benefit, not just 200% cost for a dust jacket, GW, pay attention to the one division of your company that's still run by adults!). It's a good precedent to set, and I'm glad that anyone who wants to play 30k/have a Legion force can just buy this collated army list. Excellent idea. Top marks to FW (as usual).

That is Armillus Dynat, but since we are told a number of times in fluff (needs citation but as far as I remember this has always been part of the fluff) all of the Alpha Legion look like Alpharius, so besides the tattoo that is more or less what their primarch looks like
^This. The art on Alpharius' page has "him" wearing a fairly ostentatious helmet.
That helmeted Alpharius is a bit over the top - but it is growing on me!

Yeah, it was included in Book 1. It is basically a larger FOC with Lords of War included so you can take your Primarch. Intended to be used with larger games.

Yeah, it's effectively the title for all the mods around setting up the game, scenarios and army lists to play 30k, 4 variant FoCs, allies chart for the Legions/Mechanicum/Imperial Army, possibly Zone Mortalis rules (as in, they're in the books, I just can't remember if they fall into that section and/or got reprinted in these slimlines) etc etc

Ok thanks, it seems strange that they mention it specifically. Will these two new books include those rules? If not then it seems a bit pointless, as you will still need book 1 for FOC/missions anyway.

It is incredible that FW and GW are the same company, or really GW owns FW? FW is doing everything right while GW is screwing up, IMHO. Why is that? Yes, the FW book are expensive but their quality is so much better that anything GW has. Just like HBCM says FW collector's edition isn't just a dust jacket with a higher price tag, it's a real difference. When will GW learn?

The army list is just the core army list all the legion armies is built with, but has none of the rules for the spefic legions, you need the Isstvan capaign legions for the rules for the spefic rules and units for each indivudal legion.
If your planning on playing: Emperor's Children, Death Guard, Sons of Horus, World Eaters, Word Bearers, Night Lords, Iron Hands, Salamanders, Iron Warriors, Alpha Legion, Imperial Fists or Raven Guard you will need this book.
If you planning on playing any of the legions not yet covered then you just need the Crusade Army List book for now. Just get the core list book, and wait for the HH books that has your legion of choice in it.

Maby after a War on Mars book? Right now the up-to-date admec list can be found in HH3 from what i understand. Once the Ad-mec start to become spread across mutiple books like what happened to the Crusade army list, they will probly get one of these "codex-style" books I imagen.
Personally I've like to see all of the HH armies get their own "codex" books like this at some point. (Ad-Mec, Dark-Mec, Imperail Army, Tratior army/cultists, ect)

I have the first 2 HH books and will be picking up book III, so I have all of the legion-specific rules.
However, I'm somewhat torn as I suspect these books will be updated later as they release more units and don't want to buy twice ... however, looking through 2 massive tomes to build a list is getting a little old.

I got the collector's edition, and I'm happy to have both the Crusade and Isstvan capaign legion books.
Alot lighter to carry then, instead of the 3 tomes, Not to mention I don't like haveing to lug them around. They are nice books, and i don't want them to get beat up. Thows books are just too nice for actully gameing with!
edit: That and these are a army list not everyone knows that well. So it's good to have the all the rules onhand for my oppents.

My theory is that neither book will be updated in future, but you'll need to buy an additional "campaign summary" book after each trilogy collecting together the Legion-specific units from that trilogy.

There are three separate mechanicum lists (reductor, cybernetica and taghmata) spread across the three HH books right now. But I agree that if it happens they will probably hold fire 'til after War on Mars.

I'm confused in the difference in the Mechanicum lists...
Are there any units that the certain Factions cannot or can take?
Like I know that the Krios Battle Tank is not part of the HH1 Reductor List, or the Cybernetica List in book 2. Does this mean they can never take it?

Some of them are retconned into older lists- the Ordo Reductor list can take a Magos as laid out in book 2, with the additional reductor options in the little box for reductor magi in the cybernetica list. However, there are definitely examples of units being restricted- the cybernetica list has no access to mechanicum land raiders, despite them being in the earlier book, for example.
