Today forge world kindly released rules for the kharybdis assault claw and as well as being available to legion lists it is also available to chaos space marine players. The claw is essentially a drop pod with a 20 man transport capacity a large area of effect weapon and the ability to return to hover or fly mode.

Despite it being somewhat expensive I think it looks like a very viable way to get some use out of khorne berzerkers. With drop pod assault you can enter on the first turn and deep strike right in the middle of a gunline and aince it has inertial guiding you don't have to worry about mishaps. With its heat blast it can then clear out lots of enemies in cover. On the second turn the berzerkers jump out and with assault vehicle they can immediatly charge.

The main weaknesses of this plan is that the claw is only AV12 but with 5 gull points it should only worry about low AP weapons scoring a critical hit.

So would you consider using it and to what purpose?

Being that it's only AV12 and my meta is littered with things like Railheads, I'd be worried about leaving something in it for a full round after it lands. On the other hand, I could totally see loading up a bunch of PMs in a few of these and using them to drop the high toughness marines right on or very near objectives. I can definitley see a lot of uses for this!

Edit: I just googled ablutions and apparently it does not including dropping a duece. I should have looked it up early sorry for any confusion. - Baldsmug

Wait, what were we talking about again? Did I ever tell you about the time I gave you five bees for a quarter? That's what you'd say in those days, "give me five bees for a quarter", is what you'd say in those days. And you'd go down to the D&D shop, with an onion in your belt, 'cause that was the style of the time. So there I was in the D&D shop..."

Wow, it's expensive. But hey, at least we got some kind of Drop Pod now.

Edit: 20 Plague Marines in a Kharybdis, the king of all tarpits. Suuuuper expensive, but they ain't getting shifted any time soon, and they can tank loads of ranged fire!

Sweet Jesus, that thing is expensive.

Anyway, I could definitely use it to transport my Terminator Lord and his retinue of Chaos Terminators (normally 6, but I have 8 in total). Thanks to the Inertial Guidance System and the storm launchers, anything I would drop the pod on would be very, very dead.

SOOO much str 6 shooting. 10 shots from the launchers alone, then the Heat Blast attack...

Imagine using it to pop a unit on the flank of your opponent turn 1 (pathfinders or such), then move over a large part of the army next turn blasting it, and then dropping off 20 CSM or Cult Marines into multi assaults. What the CSM codex could of been...

Wow more expensive then I would of thought. I wouldn't mind trading some hull points for cheaper cost. Still dropping 20 PA troops on the front line will make most armies worry and will be a big enough distraction for your other forces to move up. I think its kinda unfair it can only hold one dreadnought, was hoping it could fit a dread and 5-10 marines. This is what I have been waiting for to finish building my csm army.

Yeah it really doesn't make sense that it can only hold one dread.

I wish the model wasn't $210 though...

I would love to drop 20 plague marines in turn 1.

As much as I love berserkers, I really don't think this will fix them. An AV12 vehicle is too fragile for them to safely hide in for a turn and the berserkers themselves are too fragile to survive an army that will undoubtably turn sights on them. I would probably load it up with plague marines and hop them out to doubletap weak troops, and hope the enemy army gets distracted enough to let the Kharybdis take flight again. It can still do a lot of damage with D6 hits the EACH enemy it flies over, and will waste enemy shooting since it's a flyer. It could also potentially shuttle other units, but that's not something I would ever plan on.
