That is more than a beginner army. You have almost everything to make some rather competitive list save for a few solos and character units you might need. Are you planning to get all of it or just something to start out with?

It will be a big massive cash investment getting into game system where you are only just starting and with a faction which might not enjoy. Personally I think you would be better served in getting the two player starter set which will give you two nice starting forces and the rule set to get you learning and into the game and a good point to expand if you like the game.

He iswise ling the whole army. I want to get the whole thing. How is the army compared to the others, game Play wise? How much is a good offer? Including a custom case.

Thanks

I agree with this, although it comes with one other faction, Khador, and they may or may not like that faction. That being said, I agree with Gobbo with getting the two player starter set.

I hear you guys and thank you for the feedback. Which starter box should I get. Hordes or warmachine? Is it better to get the $49 star up sets? If so which 2 armies? Actually I have a friend that wants to get into it with us. Should we each get a starter set?

Thanks again

with that much stuff you should certainly be able to make many competitive forces.

Feel free to ask about how to build you army.

For Hordes or Warmachine that depends: Do you like big giants robots fighting each other, or do you like big giant monsters fighting each other (or do you like both)? And getting the $50 battlebox sets is up to you and which faction interest you, although you might miss out on Infantry.

That's pretty much all of Menoth, and has the bulk of the All-Stars. Menoth depends on Synergies between units(Jacks, Choir, Vassals) and can be tricky with order of activation.

In WM/H people switch factions pretty regularly, so there are very few deals so good you won't see them again. Starting out the 2 Player Starters have the battle box and a unit, which really shores up your foundation for playing over just the battle boxes. Most importantly the 2PS come with the mini version of the full rulebook, if either you or your son settle on one of those factions that's almost worth the cost of admission.

The Hordes 2PS is probably a little more competitive than the Warmachine, at least the Warspears and Werewolf units are really solid in a lot of lists now that they both have their attachment leaders released. The Warmachine 2PS... well MOW and Cinerators aren't on many people's All-Star lists.

So get the Hordes 2PS right?

Well wait, if the guy is selling all that for a really good price, then it would be worth buying even if he is not sure about the army. You could always sell or trade the models you dont like. What is the fella offering for all that? Retail you would probably be looking at well over 700$ for all that.

It's like this OP, if you're getting all that for a good price, get it, try the game out, then either keep it or get rid of it for other armies/something else. This is heavily reliant on if it's a good deal.

I hated menoth in the beginning. Then some dude sold me almost every unit in the book, all of them max size, some more than one squad, for a hundred bucks. Even though I hated the army (until I looked more into the fluff), I knew i could easily turn that into a vast assortment of smaller armies via trade, or if I put enough time into it I could get an even larger force from someone wanting to do an army trade.

So yeah, ask him how much he wants. If it's anything approaching 50% of retail it's a solid deal, any more than that and it just gets better and better.

buying that army, even at bottom barrel prices would cost you at least 700.

There ain't nearly enough Salvage in this thread!

AH, just noticed the "master quality" painted judicator. Depending on what "master quality" really means, thats 300$+ by itself.

Indeed, although it potentially not being the color scheme you want could reduce the value to you personally.

Anyway, it seems like a killer offer if its being offered for anything under $400.

For prices I'd look to pay 30-50% MSRP at most. Unless the painted stuff is done super well AND in the scheme that you want. If it's not in the color scheme/style you want be sure to mention that and use it to try to negotiate the price down.

Poorly painted stuff I'd say pay 20-30% as you will probably have to clean it to try to make it look decent. Again, even if you don't care if it is painted poorly use it as a negotiation point.

As for making an army, you got pretty much the entire menoth line. You can make nearly any menoth army you want.

He is asking for $500. Including the case, book, cards. I was thinking about offering $400. Would that be a good deal?

Although I still stand on my stance on this a bit, I say that is a pretty damn good deal. Although I do not really see the need for two Zealots with attachment units unless it is a tier that I cannot think on top of my head....

If nothing else you could sell the extra unit. Although my guess is that with a collection this big it might have been intended for multi-caster games.

500$ is a fantastic deal for that. Try and offer him 400$ cash and see if he will take it, make sure to comment on the painted and unpainted models. But yeah, 500$ and its basically the entire menoth lineup with the most expensive models, thats a very good deal.

There is a WDS professional quality Judicator on ebay right now for 299$+shipping and it needs to be assembled. Not saying its worth that much, but its definitely a strong selling point when he wants less than double that for the entire army.

I'm curious as to what "master quality painted" means. If it's truly a professional level paint job, that'd be awesome. I am by no means a master, I'd consider mine the nicer side of tabletop, but I have seen people around my skill level offering "master level" commissions.

I'd be leery of anyone claiming any sort of fancy paint job when they don't have any sort of commendation or proof to back it up.

Also, no, 500 is not a good deal at all. That's a terrible deal.

If the set retails at 700 bucks, you can get it online brand new for 490 (with free shipping).

Further more, this stuff is used, so doubtless you're going to have to do some form of work to it. You might not, but it's simply expected when dealing with used goods. I wouldn't pay more than 70% of the value for metal stuff (just because stripping and repairing it is crazy easy).

I've been trading for awhile, and again (i haven't looked it up, just going off what was said), if this stuff retails at 700, paying any more than in the range of 350 is not a great deal, and you can do better just cherry picking the stuff you want from people selling smaller bundles.

Just the Jacks and Battle Engine alone retail around $700. Throwing on the units, solos, and casters, you're probably looking at an overall retail value around $2000, eyeballing it.

Ah okay, then yeah solid deal. I keep skimming the thread and someone said 700 so I went off that. Disregard previous post.

Edit - Actually beyond solid. 25% of retail is extremely good

Indeed, at that price you could resell it piecemeal for just as much - definitely a good deal. Even at $500, well worth taking.

Lets see, the equivalent of the menoth half of the 2 player box, plus 5 heavies, 4 lights, Avatar, a Battle Engine and Judicator. Prices for just that would be approximately $500 new, even from a very cheap retailer.

The rest, 9 casters (including Harby, who's expensive), 13 different units and 17 solos would be worth well over $1000 retail. Battlefoam bag is also worth a lot on it's own (couple of hundred I think?).

So I guess what I'm saying is that it's a terrible deal, and you should definitely turn it down, and furthermore give me the guys number so I can ring him up and ...er... complain about that terrible deal, and in no way make an offer for it myself. *cough*.

That is a little under $1800 worth of models at full retail price. Not including the accessories.

Accept the offer. You'll never find a better one.
