Yes, Dwarfs have always had trinkets in their beards, I think the problem is actual axes and hammers are not trinkets. They're weapons; and having weapons in your beard is daft.

Sorry, someone haxored my account through facebook. *nods*
Actually, that was my view how everyone was hating on the possibility of those things in their beards being weapons, and condemning it, while finding DE Wyches' hair-weapons perfecctly fine.

It's purely an aesthetic thing. Call them talismans, call them trinkets, call them weapons... they LOOK like weapons which makes them LOOK kinda silly. Trinkets in beards is fine, but these clearly look like weapons, even if they have no rules as weapons or they are specifically stated as not being weapons, they just look silly to me.
It's like you see this cool model (or even a not cool model) and then you look at it and realise something silly about it, now whenever you look at it, your eye is just drawn to the silly bit instead of the coolness.

Here the sprue of a plastic lord, as posted by L'Astropate:
It was supposed to be a plastic Dwarf Lord kit that was never released when intended (back around plastic Miners if I remember correctly was when this was commissioned)

Looks similar to what they did for Empire, High Elves and Orcs i.e. a Lord and Standard Bearer kit.
Why would they not release this at the time?

That sprue is really, really, really old.
If I remember correctly, it was part of the 6th ed release, but the mold broke, and the cost to recreate it was deemed too high to be worth the bother for a piece that wouldn't sell that many units.

the most obvious is that there were problems with the castings where a significant numbers of sprues suffered some form of miss-casts (and you've tinkered with the mould all you can)
I've seen this is some of the scale model kits I buy from lower end manufacturers (who release them anyway as they can't afford not to) where lots of people have the same problems(s) with a kit, not the thing a 'high end' manufacturer will do
another option is it didn't fit in with the production schedule, and when it might have been squeezed in later other kits with more potential for sales were competing with it for casting time. Yes they'd make cash from sales, but something else would be thought to make more
They might have decided the kit didn't fit the look of the release (and they did use to try and keep a consistant look), either because it was designed earlier/later than the rest
or something else

This is correct

Well, you just have to look at the sprue once to notice that none of the parts visible on the new lord are there, so it's kinda hard to get confused here.

That "new lord" is Belegar, a special character, so probably not a kit. So who is confused here?

The kit's probably plastic, given the rumours about finecast phase-out.

Ironhammer and the Dragon Slayer are actually really close to the price on the two Dark Elf plastic clamshells that came out(Shadowblade and the Black Ark Fleetmaster).
A $1 difference on the kits($20 for Shadowblade/Fleetmaster and $21 for Ironhammer and the Dragon Slayer) is all that exists between the two release waves. They're a bit pricier than the current monopose Dwarfs, but I'll hold off on commenting too much until I see if the kits are able to be converted a bit.
Not sure about the Hammerers being $50. I wonder if they're similar to the Executioner/Black Guard kit with options for special characters in the box?

Considering that this nonsense with the White Dwarf is at least partly to hide their release schedule, it's probably going to be some time later in the month.

BTW that way giving sneak peek rules in WD1 makes "sense": Some people buy it to see the rules one week early. And GW can continue with their "no content" policy.
And 50$ for 10 basically monopose miniatures seems the new standard.
