I personally think the aesthetic is fine, I really find the look compliments what we've seen already and is a vast, vast improvement over the old model.
The only (minor) alteration I'd make is scraping off or painting over that 'camera'/gunsight that's on the nose, directly above the weapon, makes it look a touch too high tech in my mind.

Otherwise it's another 'Warhammer' contraption, it's great!

The design of the gyrocopter reminds me of the COE (Cab over engine) trucks in the streamline design of the 40s:

Or the futuristic train designs of that era:

And futuristic streamlined design is not what I want to see in a medieval fantasy setting.

I think I keep looking at a different future, because there's nothing futuristic about that Gyrothingy as far as I'm concerned. Oh well.

I thought I was on the Australian site. 60$ for 10 fantasy minis? Isn't this the edition where you want to field gigantic blocks of stuff?

Not futuristic - but what they thought the future would look like 60-70 years ago.

Yeah, I'm not feeling those copters. They look "chibi" / tonka toy like in the same unfortunate way Dust Tactics fliers do.

Yeah, you'd probably want 30 for a tournament standard unit. An absolutely ridiculous sum of money for a single unit.

Do you think that there will be a dwarf equivalent to the monstrous cavalry many other armies got during the last edition? Is the gyrocopter the big dual kit, or will there be something else?

So have I skimmed over it or has no one here mentioned that the masters for the last batch of dwarf stuff are really shoddy quality?

No effort has gone into cleaning the top of that back plate after printing the master. From what I hear this is a problem across the entire wave.

Got the image working and it looks to be actual texture, as well it is on more than one of the longbeards in that same spot and general pattern.

Couldn't it just be early 3d-prints or preproduction miniatures sent to the studio to paint for promo shots? And from what source have you heard that it is a problem across the entire wave. Whatever one might think about GW, the production quality of their plastic is excellent.

I don't think they would print off a master set then print off another set to be painted.. they don't need the pics until they have everything produced and ready to ship, there is no reason for the hurry there. If that hasn't been fixed before models were painted I highly doubt that it has or will be fixed at all.

And I don't have an actual source source, just a friend who pointed this out to me but of the 3 pics we can see on the site of the backs of those longbeards 2 (both of which are the 360 degree ones) have that problem.

I'm pretty confident they'll be prints done to test the looks of the model IRL prior to tooling the mould which will be done direct from the 3D files

A bit of a shame they're painting the prints but not using a better printer but it fits GWs penny pinching

so I wouldn't worry about the stepping lines being there on the plastic kit

It does look like milling/machining marks. But could just be a photo thing, I guess. Time will tell.

Probably just a fingerprint.

If it was a fingerprint, the lines would not go all the way to the edge of the raised detail - there would be a gap where the detail prevented the painter's finger coming into contact with the lower surface.

Those are definitely print lines (cos that's what print lines look like) but as said before the lines won't be on the production models.

They do use the best printer available - the same type as me. Areas with smooth curves like those pictured tend to show print lines no matter how good the printer. It's probably a 25 micron layer depth on those prints. It's just normally the lines would be removed by hand finishing.

Last night before I went to bed, I saw some comments on Warseer that were talking about rules for the Gyrobomber that had apparently been leaked earlier in the thread. It was past my bedtime, so I didn't poke around long enough to find said leaked info. Unfortunately, I'm at work now, and Warseer is blocked at my office (luckily, Dakka is not blocked).

Has anyone else seen anything about this? There was mentioning about the rules for the bomb dropping of the 'Bomber.

I think the idea that the painted models are 3d printed may be more likely. Since they use the painted pictures as box art now, they may need them done sooner. It's a possible explanation. The fingerprint idea just doesn't hold water, to me, nor does the idea that texture is actually present on the plastic sprue.

Wow, a lot to cover over there.

- First off, we get our first view of the Bomber and it's growing on me.

- I especially like the more overt steampunk feel of the Dwarfs. It's not going as far as Warmachine - but the bearded ones are certainly headed in that direction. I think this is a strong aesthetic for the range that keeps the Dwarfs very distinctive (and collectable) from any other WFB army.

- These plastic characters look great, from the over the top steampunky Grimm Burlockson (who's so cool, even his backbanner has a furnace), to the cleaner lines of the dual-build Runelords.

- The Gyrobomber is :M:1 WS:4 BS:3 S:4 T:5 W:3 I:2 A:2 Ld:9 with a hilarious 5" template bouncing bomb that hits twice half the time! That's just cool!

- Apparently stackable runes are in.

- We get some peeks at the so far unannounced IronBreakers.

- Plus a new Warhammer: Battlefields "The Underway" apparently for fighting in dwarfen holds. It all feels very Mines of Moria to me.

Thanks, Pretre.

I wonder if that means that the 'Bomber has a unique template, sort of like how there is the "Fallen Giant" market that only applies to, well, a fallen giant.

I can't think of any other 5" templates in WH games. Or, maybe it refers to a small blast that bounces, sort of like the WLC?

I'm enterested to see where this goes....

(I'm getting excited; I've been wanting Dwarves to be good and interesting to play again for about 20 years.)

The 5" blast marker is not a "template." In game terms, "template" refers to the "flame template," which is 8" long, give or take.

Rumours don't have to adhere to game terms.

What do you think is more likely, someone saying template when he means blast marker, or GW throwing in a new design for this one model?

I dont really think a white dwarf quote counts as rumors? Its snipped straight out "place the large 5" template"

My only complaint with the Gyrocopter/bomber is not that it looks like "steampunk" just that it looks like it belongs to another culture. All the rounded corners and fins makes it look aquatic. If this was the 'Defenders of Atlantis Gyrocopter' I would say it looks awesome.
