There's nothing for GW to learn. The Limited Editions are intended for the same sort of people who buy 5 copies of a Wolverine comic book because each features an alternate cover, and believe me some of those LE cover's prices make GW's pricing seem like very small potatos indeed, so it's a concept that is proven and costs them very little to produce for a nice return.

Now I can see the point of collecting alternate covers of a comic, or even whole sets, when they cost about $4 each and remain relevant or desirable for a long time, since their value is tied in to the franchise and they are distinct items of themselves.
Where the LE army/rule book falls down is that it's value is largely tied to a game with regular update cycles, so a rule book will become obsolete in 4 years, and an army book might be obsolete within 10, at which point the value drops through the floor. Ebay is usually flooded with old LE's going for little more that postage.

Haven't heard of any other new units, and I didn't pick up the latest WDW, so I'm not sure if they gave any hints out like they did last time.

Kind of a bummer, as every unit looks pretty much the same. Anyone have any pictures of the old models next to the newer ones? Just wanted to see what the height difference is.

the difference is actually quite striking, the quality between the new longbeards and the dwarf warrior ones is quite noticeable, the armour, shields and beards are all of a higher quality and thankfully quite noticeable from across the table

This week sees the last of the Dwarf releases then, right?

Is that typically on a Monday or Tuesday for GW?

I had meant that the new kits that were released look the same. Yeah, sadly the new kits look drastically different from the older kits. I'm still trying to find a substitute for dwarf warriors.

"Official" street release dates are on Saturdays, preorders are Friday nights. If you preorder through GW's website you'll sometimes get your order shipped out on Monday/Tuesday and have them in your hands by Wednesday or Thursday.

The Irondrakes/Ironbreakers are going up for preorder on Friday night of this week and most likely will have another plastic clamshell character(probably an Engineer) accompanying them.
The army book, Gyrocopter/Gyrobomber, Runelord, and Grimm Burloksson are going to release(officially) this Saturday.

I got my hands on the demo copy of the book at my FLGS over the weekend. I had some pictures of the interior of the book posted up over on Bugman's Brewery yesterday evening and spent about an hour answering questions about the stuff in it.

My contribution starts on page 16 of this thread. Pictures are in the seventh post down from the top of the page (I'm technologically illiterate, so I e-mailed them to another Bugman's poster to upload and post for me):

So, all LE copies of the book sold out in the UK, while one can still pick up a copy of the LE Nid codex.

Only half as many Dwarf books printed, so it might be another small but useful indicator of how well these things are doing/expected to do.

Probably helps it's bound differently and looks like an actual LE book instead of just a dust cover!

This linked thread has *a lot* of info in it. Some expected, some surprising. Will be interesting to see what lists come together...

Hey Saldiven, can they really not take any magic items from the BRB?

Nope, not a one. The new book has a BUNCH of runic stuff, though. There are six "Ancestral Heirlooms," which I guess are like the magic items that most army books come with now. I think maybe two of them are particularly good. I really like the banner that allows the unit to re-roll failed to-wound rolls, but it costs a lot of points (as you would probably expect). In addition, the weapon runes cover two pages. Armor, banner, talisman, and engineering runes are a page each. Lots of runes can be taken multiple times for a larger cumulative effect, but they tend to get expensive. I think several of the higher-end multiplied runic banners are good, but they get so expensive that they're BSB only, so you can only take one in an army.

Like the Rune of Slowness:

1 rune: When the unit with the banner is charged, the charging unit subracts 1d6" from charge distance; roll after the charger makes their roll.
2 runes: Same as above, but roll 2d6 and take the highest.
3 runes: Same as above, but if the charging unit still manages to complete the charge, that unit gains the ASL rule until the end of the turn.

That's just one example of one I kind of liked.

Yeah, I'd suggest readers go there and read over a lot rather than just asking stuff here. I didn't bring the book to work with me. I spent at least an hour last answering as many questions as I could, so there's a good chance that I already answered it, unless it's really specific. I think I was answering stuff from pages 16-24 or so.

As a counter- according to the GW site, there are only 60 copies left out of the 1000 as of Mon, 1800 GMT. So... there may not be a lesson to be learned by GW here.

You're quite welcome. I found myself in a position to actually provide some info to the community a few days earlier than we'd normally get it, so figured people would appreciate my sharing it with them. I don't think we get these opportunities very often, and it just made sense to me take the time out to pass it around.

(Though, I have to admit that it was a little hard at times reading posts where people were accusing me of making it up and such for the 24 hours or so between the time I first read the book and had the opportunity to bring it home with me.)

I imagine you ought to be mostly alright though- Dwarf armies with the old book had a really hard time biting too deeply into their rare allotment.

I was disappointed that they didn't make a way to take an all-Slayer army. I like that they made a Slayer character that can be the Army General, but I wish he had a special rule that moved Slayers from Special to Core. Slayers still aren't the most super-competitive choice in the book, but I would love the look of an all Slayer Dwarf army lined up across the board.

BTW, the Slayer special character is actually pretty good.
