i'm constructing a theoretical nid list and im wondering about including a single venomthrope in it and hiding him behind an MC.

So here's the question: Do venomthrope tentacles count towards line of sight? If so, it'll be mighty hard to hide him and he'll simply be receiving a 3+ cover save. If not, then its pretty reasonable to hide him.

---

Question 2 - anyone had much luck with using venomthropes in interesting ways tactically? Im currently thinking of using a venomthrope to protect big squads of majority-devourer termagants and some kind of monstrous synapse shield for the thrope. Any other good uses? I've heard improving flier jink can be good, but i dont know how the thropes are supposed to keep pace to accomplish that. Thoughts and suggestions are welcome.

I wouldn't count the tentacles as part of the 'model' proper. Weapons don't count for LOS purposes, right? It is entirely possible to hide the Venomthrope completely behind a Tervigon with that big belly sac.

Weapons don't, arms/hands do.

It depends on whether you consider the tentacles to be weapons or not

Personally i would cut you a break on that, but only if you do the same for my tentacles, tongues, etc on my models.

The Viletide: Daemons of Nurgle/Deathguard: 7400 pts
Disclples of the Dragon - Ad Mech - about 2000 pts
GSC - about 2000 Pts
Rhulic Mercs - um...many...
Circle Oroboros - 300 Pts or so
Menoth - 300+ pts

The issue of lateral and spikey bits is pretty well addressed at the start of the BRB, don't have page number handy but something to the effect of head, torso, or legs.

Aren't weapons ignored for LoS? The 'tentacles' are actually its lash whips, so if you ignore weapons then they should be ignored as well.

I honestly don't remember if weapons count or not.

Lash Whips are legitimate melee weapons in the current book. 95% sure weapons don't count for LOS.

As above...I also dont count boneswords, scytals, or guns for LoS until the arm portion of the limb.

Yeah it's pg 8 of the BRB under LOS. Only head, arms, legs, torso count for LOS purposes. It specifically states wings, tails, antennae, and banners etc. do not count.

Also good point on rollawaythestone's part: lash whips have a specific weapon entry and thus are almost surely not counted for purposes of LOS

As he cannot join another unit apart ftom a Prime which is a god awful waste of points you pretty much have a few basic options.

1. Help the oppoenent choose other priority targets by say rushing him with a lot of Gargs just for example, create distraction.

2. Take multiple Venoms, probably need to be thinking about 2 in a unit minimum if you are walking them, which is a real pain as my 1500 list only has 1 walking currently. Higher points i'm taking 2.

3. Hide them behind/within multiple MC's, 2 should do plus some Gargs or whatever. that will block LOS.

4. Place your Venom/s within a Bastion to begin with but they have to come out if you want the cover support up the field.

I think the main concern is a TFC.
