Subject: Multiple new nids questions!

Got the new codex last weekend, and now i have a bunch of questions. Some probably already been answered somewhere, others might not have clear answers untill they do the FAQ.
1) No Doom of Malanthai, Parasite of Mortrex and Myscetic Spores? And no skyfire? Or there's some of those in a forgeworld book?
2) Tyranids didn't have attack bonus last edition for wielding multiple weapons, they were already counted in the profiles. Is it still the case or we get to had one more attacks?
3) DIfferent "weapons" used to stack unless i'm mistaken. Someone with boneswords and one pair of ST would gain the no armour save and possible insta-death as well as re-rolling To-hits of 1. Is it still the case or for each attack, you choose only the stats of one weapon?
4)Some HQ have a warlord traits listed in their profiles. They get it for free as well as one if they are your warlord.... or you're stuck with it instead of being able to roll on the 3 BRB tables and the nids one?
5) The tentaclids. First time i see a one use weapon. Can you fire all 4 in the same turn or you're restricted to 1? If you can, all the same target or you can pick different ones?
6) There was some characters forced to start in reserve last edition. I didn't read anything like that in the new one, is it still there for some?
7) Absolutly no way of getting the other school of psy powers from the BRB?
8) A bit confused with the difference between (character) in the type and the independant character ability. Can characters join an unit? Or the tyranid prime is the only one able to do it. (exception being the broodlord for genes, tyrant guards for hive tyrant/swarmlord and deathleaper with 4 lictors in a few days apparently.)
Thanks. =)
P.S. Please don't use too much acronymes. Not all of them have the good descriptions and it get hard to understand for a newb. =P

1. All gone
2. We now add attacks like any other army for multiple weapons of the appropriate type.
3. Weapons do not stack anymore. If you have more than one you have to pick which you are using. So no Rending Claws and Bonesword combos
4. Your stuck with that trait.
5. Two missiles per turn, they count as a weapon being fired by the MC
6. Not unless it says they do, none come to mind as being "forced"
7. Nope, have to use whats in the codex.
8. ICs can join units, Characters have bonuses they can do too, check the BRB for the difference.

To expand a bit on #2, each 'pair' of weapons counts as a single CC weapon now, so if you have two 'pairs' of CC weapons on a Tyranid, you get the +1A bonus.
Note that a 'pair' of weapons can include things like a bonesword & lashwhip.
So a Tyranid warrior with Scything Talons and Rending Claws would have two 'pairs' of CC weapons, and therefore would get +1A. But if he gave up one of those pairs to take a Deathspitter, then you wouldn't be gettng the +1A bonus for the single 'pair' of CC weapons he has left.

1) correct all gone stupid Chapter House ruining everyone's fun.
2&3) There weren't any CC weapons in the last codex there are now. So you use the normal rules for CC weapons now which each pair counting as a single weapon. So two pairs gets you a bonus attack bit you must choose which weapon to fight with.
4) if you choose that character to be your Warlord then you get that Warlord trait and don't roll. However you could for instance have death leaper in your army and a Hive Tyrant. If you chose DL to be your Warlord you'd be stuck with his Warlord trait but if you decided to make the HT your warlord you'd get to roll but death leaper would lose the benefit of his warlord trait.
5) they are 1 use and follow all the restrictions of a normal MC gun. So he can only fire two weapons per turn (and Vector striking counts as one) so either or both if those could be tentaclids.
6) none say they are forced to start in reserve so they aren't
7) nope you have to use what the codex tells you to use.
8) characters can fight in challenges and get a 4+ LoS if in a unit. They can not join or leave units they are just part of the unit they start with. Only ICs can join and leave units and get instead a 2+ LoS. The Hive Tyrant can join a Tyrant Guard unit as if he was an IC but note he can not leave and does not gain a 2+ LoS (fortunately Tyrant Guard making him auto pass so the fact it is a 4+ is irrelevant).
Hope this helps

Does that mean a character (not independent) can start with any unit? He just can't join once the game is started and can't leave?

No. The Hive Tyrant has a special rule that allows it to join a unit despite not being an IC. Normal characters are stuck with the unit they are bought as (which is sometimes just themselves, in cases like Wraithlords, Mephiston etc).

No only ICs can join units and you only be with a unit by joining and you only start with a unit by joining it during deployment.

One very important thing to add, regarding number 4)
The HQ with the Highest leadership MUST be your warlord, if you have two tied then you can pick.
what this means is the only way to get old one eye's warlord trait, for example, is to not take any hive tyrants, etc. Automatically Appended Next Post: (page 111 of the mini rulebook)

The HQ *character* with the highest leadership. So OOE and a Tervigon would leave OOE as the warlord.

Yeah, as NOS sorta points out, the Tervigon can not currently be your sole HQ as it can't be warlord.
As to point #3, I have not seen any place were it really has had much effect on a unit.. In fact the only one that seems to matter is BS&LW + Rending Claws againts 2+ armor or extremely high T creatures or AV value. In all three cases the Rending is the better call, other wise the Rending ability is mostly unused.
