So... this is kind of a weird blog. I came to the decision a while ago that I just have too many armies. I'll never get to give each the attention or the play-time it deserves. Thus, I've decided to fix some of them up and sell them.

Or... maybe not. The more I work with them the more I like them & the less likely that I'm going to part with any of them. HOWEVER... we're going to hope for the best. So rather than muck up my other blogs with a bunch of random stuff, I thought I'd make a catch-all blog for these armies/units as I get them ready for sale... or not. If you see something you like, you can drop me a line, but this isn't really a selling blog (or it'd be in another section of Dakka), rather it's a Mr. Fix-it kind of affair as I get these random armies ready for whatever fate awaits them. This will only be for those things that I actually work on and build/paint... not the random, unpainted bits I might want to get rid of.

So, let's begin shall we?

For starters, I picked up a Grey Knight army from Dakka's own BLACKHAND. Nicely built with a decent base paint job. I'm finishing off the paintjob on the painted models, adding details and the like. I'm also adding a few key elements to "complete" the army build.

Here's what's complete...

The Commander:
Spoiler:

Terminators/Paladins:
Spoiler:

Purifier Squad:
Spoiler:

Dreadnought:
Spoiler:

Rhino:
Spoiler:

Full Strike Squad w/ Rhino (already pictured above):
Spoiler:

Short Strike Squad:
Spoiler:

Land Raider:
Spoiler:

And a BLACKHAND special... a kitbashed Dread Knight!
Spoiler:

All the great force weapons were done by Cutthroatcure.

Before this is ready (or not) to go out the door, I have a second (real) Dreadknight, a second rhino for strike squad #2, 4 marines to complete strike squad #2 and the bits to build a terminator apothecary for the Paladins. That should be fun.

Next army on the chopping block is my eldar. These were my primary army from RT through 3rd Ed. I didn't have a lot of techniques in the tool bag when I painted these, but they were painted with loving care. I'm keeping enough of a remnant to act as a basis for building a very finite Inyaden army... the rest will (most likely) be exiting stage left... most likely. I'm currently in the process of touching up and rebasing the best of them... mostly the aspect warriors of varying sorts.

So far we've got...

Fire Dragons group #1:
Spoiler:

Fire Dragon group #2:
Spoiler:

Fire Dragon exarch with fire pike:
Spoiler:

Dark Reaper group #1 w/ exarch:
Spoiler:

Striking Scorpions w/ exarch:
Spoiler:

I have a ton of stuff to touch up... banshees, another group of reapers, two squads of dire avengers & a few characters. I also have a number of things that I'm not sure wheather I'll fix up or not... 3 old war walkers, about 5 old wraith lords & 2 falcons. Lord only knows what else. Also have a bunch of stuff unpainted or just primed, but that's for the swap page.

The third army potentially on the block is a Space Wolf army. It's beautifully painted (not by me) and I desperately want to keep an element of it IF I can make it work as an allied army. If I can't, I'll add some elements to it that I've already purchased & probably shove that out the door as well. Or not...

More to come as I finish things up. Any comments or suggestions as I finish things up would be welcome.

That dreadknight looks like it came out of Robot Jox. I'm not sure if that's bad or good. It just looks.. clunky?

I like the GK. They look great. I'm not too hot on the fire dragons, they just don't appeal to me. Nice work, though!

No offense taken Munga. BLACKHAND himself admits that the build didn't end up the way he wanted it. My job was just to make it look as good as I could. I re-positioned it a bit to make it more dynamic & finished up the paint job, basing, etc.

@Scipio: I understand. They were done 15-20 years ago based on the original color schemes in the codex and White Dwarf's. Like I said... at the time, the number of painting tricks I knew were very limited. I'm just trying to make them look as nice as possible without a complete re-paint.

You don't need to justify to me, mate. They're nice looking models, they just don't appeal to me in terms of the paint scheme. The job is still fantastic, I just don't like the second unit of fire dragons because of the colour pallette.

The work is still fantastic, and you should feel good about it

Wow you do have a lot of models and armies, a pity that you are thinking of parting with some of them, but I understand the need to de-clutter.
I actually like the reapers predominantly white, rather than the black you usually see them.
I hope you do find a way to adapt the Space Wolves into an allied force. Fingers crossed they get a new codex soon although the one they have now is pretty solid.

Well, the reason I bought the Space Wolves in the first place was a beautifully painted squad of 5 Thunder Wolves. Unfortunately there is no way to have an all-wolf allied contingent. Someone had once told me that Canis could make Fenrisian Wolves troops, but I can't find anything in the rule book to support that. So they'll probably go in the re-sale pile as well.

I love those Grey Knights, I've never been a huge fan of the models but seeing them painted up in red... I've painted a few Blood Angels models up for fun but seeing these fellas in red has given me some new ideas!

And crikey! Your lanky knight thing looks so threatening! It's scary, I'd be firing everything I had at it! I can imagine it striding across the battlefield in a "Ray Harryhausen" kinda way!

Your Eldar are great too, I'm a big fan of the psychadelic look. Can't believe they're 20 years old! I don't think I could pull it off myself but you've done a great job. I'd love to play against such great looking armies, come to think of it there are loads of great looking armies/models in the painting section of Dakka today

It's in Canis' entry on p83 of the space wolf codex. There's a little box telling you that fenrisian wolves are troops with him in the army.

Both the wolves and the red knights look great by the way, the converted dreadknight is a great touch.

Yep, in the codex, if you check him out under the HQ section and maybe even in the main part, ut states that he makes fenrisian wolves count as troops choices, but that they cannot hold objectives in the same way a space marine could. because they are animals I would assume.
But a good choice for a theme and as a cheap ablative shield/ skirmish screen to protect your more expensive Thunderwolves or Mantis warriors.

If you really wanted to get a bit mean though and could use FW rukes then Bran Redmaw would be a nice addition with his patient hunters special rule, plus you coukd use a skin wolf model to represent him when the 'change' takes him hahaha..

Thanks guys, I missed that. Will have to revisit the dex. I don't actually care if they can hold an objective or not... just want them to look pretty. The problem is I don't think you can take a named character as the leader of an allied force. :(

I do have a very nicely painted skin wolf.... Hmmmmm....

Bran Redmaw is in Imperial Armour 11: Doom of Mymeara.
If you can wait a week or so, wwhen I get back from work I can scan and send you his profile from the book in pdf.
Patient hunters I think grants 1 (or possibly more need to check the book) grey hunter packs the outflank special rule.

I'm in no hurry dantay, the SW army won't get worked on until the eldar & GK are ready to "go". Should be several weeks at the earliest.

Thank you Drake, I really like how the GKs came out. I played them for the first time yesterday. Very fun. Expensive, but powerful... so you have to work hard to get the key match-ups you need to have the game go your way when faced with more bodies and firepower.

Finished the refurbish on the Howling Banshee unit. I have a lot of very fond memories about painting these gals. Nice to see them with decent bases and looking all shiny.

Close up...
Spoiler:

Got the second Dark Reaper group done too.

I think all that's left worth touching up & rebasing are a few characters (exarchs & such). Getting close to being done with this little chore.

Yippie! Four of the eldar units are up on ebay! A couple even have a follower or two and one has a bid!

I'll be so happy when I can clear my stockpile a bit.

Just got done with a couple of eldar characters.

The first is a major re-paint & re-base of a figure I picked up off the net...

And a touch up and re-base of a figure I painted long, long ago.

Maugan Ra the Reaper Pheonix Lord is looking lovely.
Purple black and bone is always a winning combo!
And the blue gem on the forehead is really well done and a nice spot colour.

I want to thank those of you who've commented. I've actually managed to sell most of my eldar stuff. A bit on e-bay & a bit to a young man 'round these parts who's wanting to start his own Eldar army.

So now I need some opinions... I picked up this really beautifully painted Space Wolf army last summer which I am now looking to sell.

It's got...
HQ:
1 Rune Priest
2 Wolf Priests
EL:
5x Wolf Guard with frost axes & blades
TP:
2x 8-man Grey Hunter squads w/wolf standard, mark of the wulfen, melta & PF + rhino
HV:
1 Long Fang squad (5x ML & Srg) + las/plas razorback
1 Long Fang squad (5x ML & Srg)

Here's the pic... very large so feel free to visit gallery & zoom in. The painting style isn't "fancy" but it's very crisp and clean... quite old-school in style. Hand-painted matching insignia & squad markings on everything.

I could break this up and sell it squad-by-squad, but my inclination is to sell it as a single army. It's a 5th edition build, but still a very solid foundation on which to build a SW army on so I'm hoping it might be attractive to buyers. Any thoughts? I'll have to fiddle with the final photo that I'll use for sale. The color isn't quite right on this one, the army is actually bluer and prettier in person.

I think my break-even point is about $300. Would like to get at least a little more than that if possible.
