Proiteus has some blogs here on Dakka too if you're interested...
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/513143.page http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/293742.page The thing with count's as armies is that they have to be done right.
The miniatures you have need to be almost instantly (or on explanation) noticed as the minis that you are tying to portray.
Imperial gaurd=rebel grots -Easily done!
Tyranids=dred mob - This will be a bit harder to do right... Synapse creatures and all! Also the Hive mind thing wold be an issue here maybe.
Also how will Carnifexes and Hive Tyrants be done?
How I would go about it...
Fluffwise you could have a Ork warlord that finds a mind kontrol device that helps him have absolute control over his slave like army.
Monstrous creatures can be the actual Tyranid minis they represent piloted by Orks.
like this...
A lot of Tyranid carapace and claws would have to be attached to the Orks.
Also in line with the mind kontrol fluff each Ork has a interceptor device on their heads to receive the signals the warlord is giving them.
tau=bad moons? - Could be done easily enough. Just all the Tau stuff looted by Orks.
Just search looted Tau.
dark eldar=freebootas Again Looted
DE stuff. But I like the Freebootas Idea! Pirates on the
DE ships!
eldar=I haven't figured anything out yet Again just looted Eldar stuff possibly also with a Freebootas theme.
Space marines=deff skullz Could be done... Would be hard to make look good though.
Chaos space marines= goffs Same as space marines
Chaos daemons= feral orks Tainted by chaos, very possible. Orky daemons and all... very interesting.
greyknights= Tuska's boyz(read fluff about tuska da daemon killa) Very possible, you'll just need a lot of armour. Possibly
OTT.
Necrons=Tinboyz Pretty possible, just looted Necron stuff.
Just google if anyone has done any of this before you may get some ideas.
In order to get good looking Ork counts as minis, I think seamlessly and subtly integrating bits from both Orks and the range that you are trying to copy will go a long way.
Notice how Proiteus makes his minis look as if they were sculpted that way. How the bits from both ranges fit together so well they seem to belong together.
If you ever actually model any of these armies you'd do well to remember that.
Counts as armies usually have a lot more character than other armies and as a result tend to stand out!
Automatically Appended Next Post: Oops you forgot SOB. Orks in corsets anyone?
