I kinda ninja fu'd some IG units (4 sentinels and 20 guard) on ebay for cheap. is the Battle Force worth going to get or is a mech list really the best way to play? I will just wait for the New codex to drop but yeah any tips on what all to get?

yes , you more or less have to go mecha , with so many cover ignoring units around IG can no longer play with blobs hidden behind an aegis.

Set your points cost. 1000? 1500?

You wont make mistake with chimeras, valkyrie(vendetta, you can take lascannons from those sentinels), make decision which LRBT. And more infantrymen of course And some heavy support? Manticore, griffons, basilisk?

Manticores are great at putting out high strength blasts down range, so one of those might be a good idea.

A Leman Russ might be safe, but who knows what GW has planned for the new codex, so recommending a specific variant is risky.

Vendettas and more Vendettas. And if you can, throw in some Vultures and Avengers. You can hardly go wrong with lots of flyers. The Avenger Strike Fighter is particularly nasty.
Infantry should be in Chimeras as much as possible, mech lists are the way to go at the moment.
And never forget your heavy support. Tanks are cool. Apart from the vanilla Russ, I find the Exterminator and Executioner to be the best.

I'd wait for the new codex before buying too much, but I can assure you you'll need more infantry. A command squad and two vet squads clocks in at 25 models bare bones. Really can't go wrong with ~60 bodies for all the vets and/or a blob or two you'll need.

The idea that Mech is the only way to go is a load of crap. Even at 1500, in an environment with armies like Eldar, a foot blob has its uses - the Al'Rahem blob in particular is brutal if pulled off right.

Indeed, Mech Vets are a force to be reckoned with, but you can make a balance and still be effective. Also, the new Codex is coming in March reputedly and I expect the changes will rebalance the power of Mech and Foot lists. Honestly? I expect a Mechanized nerf, and a small foot list buff, either directly or indirectly.

Sentinels ain't stellar at the moment, but with Vendettas looking to be nerfed into oblivion I'll expect them to rise in usefulness dramatically; essentially their role of mobile heavy guns and disruption is currently pretty pointless with the Vendetta being so cheap.

So on that note, don't waste money on a Vendetta until the Codex comes or until its proven false.

Well, lets wait for the codex to be dropped before making wild assumptions. For all we know, GW will amaze us with amazing balancing skills and give the Vendetta a price cut and another pair of lascannons. And make it a flying MC. Or something.

Either way, the OP needs more bodies for his army.

Valkyries will have the Vendetta loadout option, ergo Valks are Vendettas & vendettas are valks in upcoming new codex (pretty solid rumour)...

Still, with guard coming out in a month or so, I wouldn't buy anything yet...

My only advice is not give your guys grenade launchers. Flamers can be useful but Grenade Launchers... ehhhh....

I would experiment with what you have first. You have a very important decision in front of you. Do you want to play air guard, tank guard, mech guard, or foot guard? Do you want to dive into the deep end with forgeworld? Do you want to enslave some poor divination inquisitor? I have played all of these types of armies and they all work fine outside winning a GT or some such. If you want to buy something now then a vendetta and a box or two of infantry couldn't hurt.

Everyone is so sure of a Vendetta nerf. I bet it clocks in at 130 again.

Most of those list give very little problem to foot guard. In fact your last one, D weapons, is directly contradictory as it absolutely murders mech builds but is negligible casualties for foot guard.
Tau and eldar murder mech guard just as easily as foot. Honestly all IG is somewhat mediocre in the power scale without forgeworld. Vendettas are definitely under priced but it does not win games. To win games you need something to kill troops, board control, and scoring units. For these elements foot guard works just as well as mech.

I find there's too much ignore cover shooting out there to run foot guard effectively. Veterans are still your most cost effective killers in my opinion.

I'm very tempted to buy some of the Kasrkin, I quite like the models and am scared with what GW will replace them with. I assume lots of skulls and randomly unnecessary dynamic poses.

The biggest most reliable rumour from a "witness" said

"...the new kit, which, frankly, floored me. The details were great, with kasrkin style armor, and all sorts of weapons including hellguns, sniper rifles, special weapons, a cool missile launcher, a bunch of sergeant options, bolters, and lots of shotguns that managed to not look like scout shotguns. Also, the bolters did not look like marine shotuns, they were a little more human sized. Some of the poses were also amazingly dynamic. Some were stoic standing poses..."

One advice to OP. Dont get caught in "New codex is here next month"...rumours, more rumours and another rumours. Will it arrive this year? Probably yes. Will it use infantrymen? Yes. Will it take fun from building and painting those awesome IG models? Definetly not...

Invulnerable saves are the new cover saves. Grab coteaz and another inquisitor with divination from inquisition supplement and fish for forewarning. That will give your blobs staying power.

OP. Either way you decide to play, you're going to need more dudes. Even in a mech list you probably need 40 or more. So get some more infantrymen and busy yourself with painting those until the new codex drops. Then decide what units you like in the new book and go with those.

tip #1 that i wish someone had given me... Paint your soldiers as troopers. They REALLY dont need that much detail. save that for the sarges and characters. I'n other words, dont spend the time painting and detailing each single guy as though it is a character. First, It will drive you buggy because once you start, you cant stop and then, it makes it so that your characters dont stand out as well when the res ofthe guys look just as good.
Chances are, your just gonna be removing them from the table in droves anyway.

Wow! thanks for all the tips and heads up guys. I am very thankful and will be looking into all of your suggestions. I do know, the color will be more of a winter camo light blues and cold metals. But I want at least 4 Valkyries, they will all be modeled from different Top Gun characters, and I might have to play Danger Zone while flying them in >.>
