Yeah, UaW was brilliant conceptually, they just needed more time to iron it out.
I would love to see them remake it properly.

RTS is a gaming classic. Not many Devs these days can create a truly original RTS game. All the good ones with good ideas have been taken. Although Age of Empire II HD edition garnered quite a few sales

Blizzard are putting their RTS guys (as in the devs) for Heroes apparently.
I think they plan on obsoleting the current MOBAs, which built their success on WC3 (and originally used their art assets and engine).

How much of MOBAs success is the fee to play model, you think?

Doubtful. Heroes diverges pretty drastically from LoL and DotA. While it's certainly a good game in its own right by all accounts, I'm doubtful of how strong an option it will be from the eSports perspective, which is where LoL (and to a limited extent DotA) draw most of their non- RP money.

Yeah, they had maybe a third to a quarter of the units out they actually wanted; a faction almost ready but left out because they didn't have the time to finish up the last bits, bugs out the wazoo, rather bad game balance (it's all about Hierarchy walker rushing), and the Masari were really busted.
The campaign was pretty excellent though.

I think MOBAs are in the lead right now. But RTSs are still here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2_9FToybfIY
