Who is the best Eldar Phoenix Lord, in your opinion? This isnt just a question about value for points or how "deadly" he is, but which one can cause maximum damage when used with the right squad, right situation etc. overall.

My summary of the PLs can be found in my Eldar tactica (sig) for quick reference.

I would say it is a toss up between Fuegan and Karandras, with Barahhoth getting honorable mention for sheer troll factor.

Fuegan is a straight tank, and with a double tapping melta gun that can shoot a seperate target, he is well at home with guardians, avengers, or even scytheguard. No slouch in combat, and he gains beatstick ability as he gets hurt. Feel no pain is not a hard invul save, but it is better than nothing.

Karandras has a power fist at I7, with a boss statline. Enough said.

I havent used any because i feel they dont belong in the hQ slot. Id prefer them if they where squad upgrades like in the guard codex.

But my Favouritewould have to be asurman because he is the only normal looking model of them... if that

Fuegan Asurman and Karandras are your beatsticks with Karandras and Fuegan rising to the top for sheer damage output, but Asurman has multiple traits and confers counter attack to a unit.

Personally, I have gotten the most use out of Baharroth, But my Main competitors were Necrons and Tau, which are perfect for Blind Tests. (Exculding Tau Suits)

Karandras simply for utility. No matter what you put him in, he is useful. Even something as silly as a full squad of reapers, he makes them tough to kill. His combat potential is one of the best in the game, so long as he can kill the AP2 threats before he gets swung at.

Baharroth would have been top if he had a sunrifle. The ability to chance a blind twice would be great, but hes too risky for his point cost otherwise.

But he does blind upon landing and then the exarch gets to blind a unit again...and it can even be a unit that didn't get blinded by the land...not to mention that he can throw a separate grenade pack before joining the unit at the end of the movement phase...such is the glory of nonscatter.

But you are landing in the middle of an enemy position with a squad AND him now. If even one unit does not get blinded, you will have a problem. Also, there are the list of things that are immune to blind: Vehicles, ALL crisis suits (Including the riptide of course.. why would they ever give it this esoteric buff), and embarked units.

Hes also pretty bad in melee. S4 doesnt do enough wounds at 4A. VS T5 or higher he struggles a LOT. Even with blind, you are going to be beat by nearly every 2+ save HQ. Where karandras in cover is as tough as 3 TH/SS terminators, baharroth only has a 4++.

Sheer damage output, no contest, Karandras, Fuegan, or Asurman win that all day, that's the first thing I said.

But personally, Baharroth has been able to provide the most game changing effects for me.

The other Lords just have the problem of delivery.

Isnt Jain Zar a pretty nasty beast in cc? AP2 for her 4 ranged S4 attacks AND AP2 for her cc attacks as well + shred. And she moves an average 14" per turn with her banshees.

They all need new models. I built my Karandras out of Drazhar. Jain needs a new aspect, she's perfectly fine as a lord.

Baharroth is the only P.Lord that will 100% do something in a game (Karandras works to if you play he grants Infiltration to unit). His blind is invaluable vs Necrons, Orks, Fire Warriors, DevilGants, blobguard and Horrors. His shooting is Subpar but when with a unit of 6+ Hawks it is enough to really put pressure on units. He is an adequate melee threat against the kind of backfield units you should be charging (Devs, Fire Warriors, Lootas) and can act as a very good tank the sparse shooting you will open yourself up to with good positioning.

Also thanks for telling me about the whole ''Drop separate blast then join unit'' thing, I didn't know about that. Not saying I don't enjoy beatstick heroes, I have used Karandras to great effect in a surprisingly cheesy Eldrad/Karandras/Harlequin/Vect Deathstar (Yes, I understand it's about 800pts so it better dam be good) but I wouldn't use them competitively when they have no sure fire way to make sure they make combat.

The unit's shooting must then be resolved at the Swooping Hawk's Target...I forget the semantics, but I just wanted to give you a little background before you go forth.

But personally, I think the Solitaire is the best "Character" in the book.

Eldrad should have been created with Tigurius' ruleset.

And while I have some Eldar Player's attention...is there any halfway decent way to run Yriel?

The thing about Eldar, the book is so good that you can spend the points on a poor quality character and still feel confident.

umm no not really. I dont know if the vote count tells you anything haha but shes still bad. Sure she can run fast, but you cant assualt after doing so making her quite useless. and sure shes fine at combat, but not AMAZING like some of the other phoenix lords.
on another note....who voted for muagan ra???

Probably the guy who runs him in a Harlequin squad for maximum lulz. He can tank wounds AND dish out shots on the move, complementing the death jester nicely (funny how they also resemble each other)

I'm sold on Asurmen. Tried him out, rolled 3 traits, and he got the trait that allows him to reroll 1's to saves. I had that man tank everything.

I'm tempted to try Karandras out though, just do to his ability to crush... everything.

Math hammered karandras v draigo

It was super interesting as karandras is fighting through 4 wounds and a 3+ invulnerable while draigo is pushing to get his sword through 2+...

Karandras only takes that battle due to I7...but more importantly...by forcing saves with the scorpions bite (I think I had him losing until I factored that in)

Asurmen could be good in a Iyanden list. Stick him with a Spiritseer and 5 Scytheguard into a Wave Serpent, then watch as they bark off anyone who even tries to get close. Just watch for cheap Chaos troops with that one, they won't care about your fancy AP2 and there are lots of them.

Also the fact he rolls 3 times on the Warlord table means he could get Hatred, free Fortune for himself AND FNP all in one! Heh.
