Saw this quote and it gave me a laugh, which inspired me to make this thread.

Guard Vets assaulting from vehicles won't happen. GW have shown that this is 'non-negotiable' from all the previous codices and BRB, only disembarking from an Assault vehicle allows charging.

Rapid Assault: The Astra Millitariumiiness Veterans are extremely capable and versitile soldiers, employing tactics and strategies far and beyond the rank and file Astaratron Millitarysuperindustrialcomplex Guard troopers. Any vehicle that has Veterans embarked within gains the Assault Vehicle special rule. The vehicle loses the rule once the Veterans have completed disembarking.

That was easy. GW can just change the rules at a whim. Never forget that.

Simply put, apparently the good ol' hammer of the Emperor is getting a name change, probably some sort of faux latin name in line with Adeptus Astartes, Adeptus Soritas, Adeptus Arbites, etc.

Your mission, should you accept it, is to come up with a better name than Astra Militarium. Only rule is it has to sound vaguely Latin-ish.

Bonus points are awarded for

1. Funny

2. Actually sounds similar to Imperial Guard (For example, Imperialis Legio) so that noobies don't get confused by the name change

3. Actually sounds good and won't get completely butchered in pronunciation by the average person

4. Is actually correct Latin

I've seen a couple of good ones already, my favorite being Imperator Malleus. Not sure if the order of the words is correct, but it sounds like a fitting name for the Imperial Guard
Spoiler:
If I've got the translation correct, it roughly means "Hammer of the Emperor"
Of course, this name will never happen thanks to it's similarities to the Gray Knights and Inquisition.

Remember, this thread is all in good fun. We all know GW already has the books printed out by now with the new name, and nothing will change it. But who can miss a perfect chance for us to stand around and tell GW how to do their jobs? That's what the internet is for after all!

I think its quite obvious that the name should contain "Imperialis ". I personally like one of the following to accompany: Custodia, Praesidium, Praestes.

So.... Custodia Imperialis....Praesidium Imperialis...Imperialis Praestes

I would like the point out that it's unlikely Guard will actually get a name change, when space marines still have "Space Marines" on the front of their codex

Let the enemy tremble. Let them flee at our name. For we are the Emperor' hammer and shield that spreads his will amongsts the cosmos. We are the undwindling host that knows no end. We are the martyers of our faith who drowns our enemies in blood to lay claim to the stars in the name of man. We are The Sicons of War!

I don't think the names very latiny but oh well.

If I got that right, it should mean both 'world army' (i.e. they are the force that fights on planets) and 'army of all mankind'.

Peditum Munitorum

We already know that both the Guard and the Navy fall under the Departmento Munitorum. The Guard should not be Adeptus Munitorum, because being an adept is a prestigious and important thing in the Imperium, giving certain rights and protections. So, Peditum Munitorum for the Guard (from the Latin for "Infantry") and possibility Naves Munitorum for the Navy (though that brushes a little close to the Navis Nobilite).

I really hope they haven't changed the name (Although AS did set the precedent, but C:SM didn't conform), they will always be the Imperial Guard to me. However:

Codex: Badassius Maximumus

Codex: Humungonius Gunius

Codex: Imperialguardium Leviosa

Codex: Flakarmourous Lasgunius

Codex: Guard of the Imperium

Codex: Army Men

"Adepta Sororitas" has been the "real" name of the Sisters of Battle for their entire history. The faux-Latin names are the names of the group in High Gothic, the names like "Space Marines" or "Imperial Guard" is the Low Gothic version.

In the case of the IG, I'm thinking something like "Bellus Imperialis" or "Legio Bellum".

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.
