Hello all. My wife and I currently play on a table we made after a few trips to Lowes. We made it very sturdy with an 18 month old running around when we play, but because of this its pretty heavy and cumbersome. I'm active duty military and we may be moving soon (And many times after
for the next 16 years or so) so we are considering buying one of these for its easy travel capabilities and durability. I love our jungle table but being able to pack up and go sounds wonderful.
I've played on them before but never owned one, has anyone gotten it and was it worth it? I'd also like to know if the Forge World 24x24 boards sit flush with it.

I don't have it, but it's very expensive. Might be worth it, though (sort of). You can indeed take it everywhere.
The FW tiles fit, they're designed for them.

I have one, and yeah, it's great to be able to pack it up and take it wherever. It's not light enough a small child could carry it, but it isn't about to throw out my back either. My biggest issue with is is that models tend to slip down the hills. I often wish I'd just spent the money getting an equal number of flat expansion tiles. It would give me the same 6'x4' area, without forcing those darn hills into it!
Can't answer as to Forge World tiles, but I would imagine so given they are both from the same parent company.
For cost though, I believe there are now some third party groups making table tiles cheaper. I can't give you any names off the top of my head, but I know the News and Rumors section might be a help.

I do agree on the models slipping on the hills, we only play at the local GW is we arent at home and I've gotten well acquainted with the constant termagant slide.
I'll google up some more tiles and post them here.

Hello lechine,
As someone who recently got back in the hobby after a good time away from it, I found myself in a similar position - wanting a portable board. After comprehensive research and debating the merits between the wide range of mats and the very few boards, I settled on the Realm of Battle Board. For me personally, I shied away from a mat as I do not have a dedicated 6x4 table to play on and needed something that could support itself while allowing some overhang. There also are not a lot of boards, at least which you can go buy right now. (More in R&D or Kickstarter)
For the board itself,
1. It is expensive. No doubt about it. I also invested in the 2 flat pieces expansion for a total of 8 boards for diversity. While you have to buy those directly through GW, the Board itself can be bought from sellers for 20%+ off. (It was when I bought it)
2. The connecting pieces are a bit of a pain, but manageable.
3. The best part of it has to be the bag. Such a novel but awesome feature.
Honestly, it is probably the most contentious item out there. There are merits on both sides, but it comes down to price point. I'm very happy with the purchase, but am someone who prioritizes terrain and the gaming environment over buying another army. I've also been compiling a list of ways people have crafted their boards, as I am still debating how I want to finish it! I am also a backer of the Games & Gears Battleboards, so I am interested to see how they stack up. Although like I allude to above, I'm disappointed they didn't develop a bag for it!
Panic probably has the best review/under construction guide on Dakka. http://www.dakkadakka.com/wiki/en/Terrain:%20GW%20Realm%20Of%20Battle%20Board:%20Standard
Before I bought it, I asked him a few questions myself as I am interested in a Forge World Board or two, and he said while they align, they do not attach.
Hope this helps!

There are a bunch of threads on this already. I'll link you to this one, because I commented in it:

But a google search would dreg up more. Generally, results are negative, as you're already seeing.

I personally love mine. I ordered it at 20% of from The Warstore and it is incredibly easy to paint up.
I own several gaming tables but really like the way this board works. I also have purchased several Forge World tiles to expand it. Eventually I will go ahead and get two more flat tiles as well.
IMHO it is really a nice piece and fun to work with

I bet with it painted and finished with added grass etc, the models don't slide around as much as if it was just plain plastic. I want one!

I wouldn't recommend it. The model sliding is really annoying and the nature of the thing, with its constant undulations, makes placing other terrain on it awkward. We went from the realm of battle to a simple pair of wooden boards with grassy texture on top of them and didn't look back.
It's nice to look at, but not worth the annoyance to play on it, and you pay so much for that annoyance.

models stop sliding if you flock the thing.
I have one and it's pretty nice...though the hills are a bit much for me.
I got mine at a discount because the bag was ripped at my flgs...but it's a good product.

I love mine. I have two actually. Great, very nicely detailed, and easy to paint to whatever theme you want.
The model sliding is overstated quite a bit. Paint the hills, maybe add some sand or flock, and you are set. Yes, sometimes models will slide if you don't place them carefully. Not a big deal in my opinion.
Additionally, the ability to pack it up, move it, (as a fellow military member) has proven invaluable.
I don't have any forgeworld expansions for it yet, so I can't speak to that. As others have mentioned, I don't believe they attach but do sit flush.
Good luck!

Picked ours up from ebay for a steal as it was in a terrible state. Some paint and flock later it was much better.
Used Solid water on the skull pits as I don't like them.

I love my realm board! It's light when packed up, modular - can create several different configurations of terrain, and honestly, the model sliding isn't even that bad. If it's been properly flocked with grass and whatever other texture, the models completely grip the hills just fine. I'd say people here need to do some maintenance on their boards :p
Get it, it's almost an investment when you consider how much time and space it will save you and how uber convenient it is. Also, painting and modeling the board is so much damn fun! It's a big project that lets you get super creative and the wife will love to help, I'm sure of it. It'll be a nice project for you two to both have some fun with for several nights!
Have fun, let us know how it goes!

I painted the one for my FLGS. It's great but flock the hills or glue sand on it for more texture. There's not enough friction to keep models from sliding if you don't do that.

I'll pretty much just echo everyone else - they look good when painted well, they're pretty light, they're strong and they travel very well. I got one to save me the time and get an easy carry case; I don't regret my choice at all. They cost a fair amount, so it's not something I'd do on a budget but honestly, having tried to make a good modular board in the past, it's the difference between 3 hours of work and 30. The case is decent too, fairly strong and a good snug fit.
It depends how much you really care though. If you're not hugely bothered about the actual board appearance itself, just buy a mat and modular terrain. Much cheaper, much more portable. At the end of the day, you're buying looks and time. If neither bother you, it's not worth it. If both bother you, you still may wish to look at competitors. It is good though, and I would recommend it for sure.

My friend's picking me up tonight. We're gonna grab my Realm of Battle board (in its convenient carrying bag!) and drive to his house and play there. I have a 4x6 play space that I can fit in my closet or under my bed and it's quick to paint up and fun to play on. The skull pits are Warhammer as hell, but you can fill over them like some folks have shown in this thread. It's a great product, and while I would never say it's cheap, getting it at a discount makes the wallet hurt less. I've been playing on mine for a good 3-4 years now, and I'll probably be playing on it for the rest of my gaming career. Tablescapes from Secret Weapon seem to have put out a comparable product that I'd love to play on, but the Realm of Battle board is really nice. If I had room for more terrain I'd get some of the Forgeworld tiles for it.

I bought one a number of years ago, painted and flocked it.
The only faults I really find with it are the hills (sometimes I want something flatter so I can put lots of buildings on it) and I have some trouble putting it together (probably from my own incompetence) So I usually just lay down a gaming mat (I have one of those GW ones with the silky black fabric on the back).
