Hi guys, has PP said anything about a new Hordes faction?

Now that there are 7 Warmachine factions and still only 5 Hordes I was just curious. I'd like to venture into a Hordes faction at some point (after mercs ) but it would be nice to start with a fresh army!

Sorry if the thread title got anyones hopes up!

There is kind of an assumption currently that PP will do a new Hordes Faction next year for the 10th Anniversary of the game. There's not really any plan on PP's part to do equal releases of Factions since they're more or less extensions of the same game, so the numerical thing doesn't really matter there.

Expect more info to come around on them I think around this time next year. Besides that, the current Factions and the two sub-Factions in Minions do at least have a lot going, but PP doesn't really do new Factions at a very breakneck pace.

And stuff.

During Templecon Will Shick was asked about this, he said that the design team was looking at a bunch of design concepts for new factions for Hordes (emphasis on the s there), so I would expect nothing sooner than next year at the earliest, and I would expect more than just one.

I still want an insectile faction. Cephalyx come close with their spidery aesthetic, but not exactly what I want. I'd love to see a faction where the beasts are giant dragon flies, rhino beetles, preying manti, scorpions (technically archanids, I know), and the like.

I wouldn't assume that much, though it is possible. When asked TempleCon the previous year, they said that multiple factions can be indevelopment at anytime, but that few rarely make it to daylight.

Shick stated he was excited for the possibilites with ONE of the factions. Take away from that what you will, but I imagine we'll get one new faction soon, and that of the many being explored, one has set itself as a front runner.

Infernals are a distinct possibility as a hordes faction. However, when they do that, is completely different.

Last year when they announced Cyrus they pretty much said a new hordes faction would be coming too. But didn't really give a time line. Though it was implied it might happen around the 10th anniversary of hordes.

Legion is taking an unexpected insectoid turn. The afflictor and naga have some bug attributes and the warbeast pack art shown at templecon revealed that legion will get dragon/bees. They aren't quite spiders but it's a start.

Cephalyx have just been announced on the warmachine side as a new mercenaries pact - I think they're getting their own book. Please note they are 'not' a faction, just a new contract.


There have been numerous comments made by pp that they're working on a new faction for hordes, and have stated that this would be for the hordes ten year anniversary.

My money is on infernals.

Indeed.

One thing to note is that it appears like they will have some unit attachment that will make a faction unit into a Cephalyx unit(mind control)

I was under the impression that some lower ranked Infernals could cross over when summoned by infernalists. Then again, I could be misremembering my fluff, as I didn't find Infernals all that interesting.

I don't know that he was statted (though he likely was, I've just never seen the card), but if it is anything like his fiction, he was likely an nigh-unkillable beast.

Yeah he was available for the most recent food machine stuff, and (from memory) in NQ? One of his attacks had Armour Piercing and decapitation so that he averaged like 20 damage on a jack. Per strike. I would dig it out if it wasn't midnight here

He had 3 Attacks all with Armor Piercing. The Attack that had Decapitation and Knock Back on top of that was Holy Force which was P&S 25. On the charge against a ARM 20 Jack, he averaged 50+ damage: ARM10, 3d6(average is about 10.5, IIRC) + 15 doubled, you couldn't do less than 30 thanks to his POW 25 and he still had his two P&S 13 attacks.

He also had Ancient Shroud(Only takes 1 box regardless of roll exceeding ARM), Sidestep, Parry, Steady, could activate Righteous Flames, and had a once per game ability where Ranged Attacks against him and any friendly models completely within 3" auto missed.

He was only 17/14 with 12 boxes, but good luck with that.

No Quarter 50 if you want to try your luck in that refight.

From the rumours it possibly might be Infernal.

He had 3 attacks total.

2 Gauntlets and a ranged weapon called Holy Force.

The Gauntlets are Pow15 weapon master Armor piercing. Holy Force is Pow25 armor piercing decapitation. He has gunfighter and virtuoso.

12 hit boxes with Ancient Shroud and Stealth. And Holy Ward IIRC.

He also has a mini-feat which makes all ranged and magic attacks targeting him and any model within 3" of him automatically miss for one round.

This is in a scenario with eKreoss's feat available to him.


The funny thing is that he could charge a Warlock, have them Transfer the Holy Force attack to a beast, and have it still over exceed the beast's boxes and come back to instantly kill the Warlock.

P&S 13. I checked the NQ while posting my overview.

Also, He's Pathfinder and Fearless, no Gunfighter or Virtuoso as he has no Ranged Attacks.

There was a 'what if' scenario run for Press Gangers by PP that had several interactions like that.

If I recall correctly:

Hailey and Denegra were Cryx
Old Witch was Circle
Stryker was a Merc
Magnus was Cygnar

It was part of a the Privateer Press invitational in 2010 IIRC. They had some alternate history cards that only people who played in the event got.

They had Vladimir, protector of the Old Faith for PoM, Vinter the undefeated for Cygnar, Cylena Raefyll, Guardian of Nyssor for Khador, Lord Ghyrrshyld of House Vyre for Retribution, Warwitch Jezraell (AKA Victoria Haley) for Cryx, Steelhead Captain Stryker for Mercs, The Old Witch of the Wood for Circle, Leto, Blood Brother of the Kriels for Trollbloods, Alexia, Betrayer of Corvis for Skorne, and Eiryss, Echo of Everblight for Legion.
