Hey all!

Time passes, things get done - or something more appropriately poetic. I have focused a lot more on the throne the past few days so I will go over all of the progress, which is now done enough to at least call it complete.

First, I brought it in and got set up. Don't let the image fool you, its about 6 feet tall to the dragon. That is a 42" TV.

First thing to do was go in and add a little color throughout the display. It doesnt seem like much but it makes a more realistic and believable color in the end.

This was thankfully mindless enough it did not become too tedious, just time consuming. But I think it was worth it.

With more work done to the top.

Only about 2-3 steps left at this point. Down to the finishing touches.

All done and drying for the next day to do the flock.

I bought plenty of trees!

That is a warpfire dragon on the right! Carn is really a big guy...

Working my way down for the most part. Drips and falling trees have nothing to ruin.

Lots of foliage. I want a creepy spring look to the bottom. Lots of colors but also a bit sickly.

Flocking finished!

The poem book - the army is sort of a nightmare fairy tale in theme. I wanted to carry that into the army nameplate.

And with the book in place, the display is almost complete. I must move on to other projects that are not so complete, but time permitting I will revisit a few small things.

Until next time, in which I should have both projects complete.

The throne is fantastic, and I love the "$400 model, no pressure" line when cutting Carn

But man, what I'm looking forward to most is that egg chair!! Can't wait to see it in-person at AdeptiCon

An outstanding work!
Everything, from design, to the final touch of a brush, is a top notch!
Rarely you can expect so awesome level of paint job on such a huge object, not speaking of the overall detalization.
I take my hat off, sir.

I'm so sad that I found this blog before you finished the project! Oh the wait time! God damn this is beyond mind blowing. And the ease you seem to do it with - very impressed. Can't wait for the thrilling conclusion

I felt that way too, until I realized the wait time will be basically a week and a half more maximum (that is, assuming he gets finished pics up before taking these to AdeptiCon).

I should. The only thing unfinished now is 50% of the marines.

But I also have a 2k point commission to do yet and theres no skimping on that. Will just mean long days until its done.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I would normally do commissions before, but some of the parts came in a day ago

Wow. If my brain still worked I would take a "my face when" picture and post it, but I can't figure out how to camera right now.

The fact you did all this in under a month just makes it even crazier.

Just wow, over and over again.

Hey all - this is it! Both displays down. Now just to do the marines that go in the egg. Let's wrap this up so I can get back to painting!

A client and I had the idea to do a tablet as a billboard for his display, so I thought I would use the existing one I had to do the same for mine. In hindsight, I am glad. It really gave it something extra.

I must admit this was fun!

The tablet was attached to velcro. It took me one whole day to get the GIFs to work for these. It was really frustrating. But they work.

This morning I drug it out and took some pictures with the derelict finally in its hole.

Another angle. There is a space marine for scale if you can see it, half assembled.

Tonight I added some spotlights to the display. Pretty much a requirement with the ballroom lighting.

Accidental use of flash has interesting effects on the mind.

With exterior light.

And a close up of the interior.

So that's it! Just need to do some final touches on the armies and I will have pictures. Stay tuned while I get back to work!

truly inspiring work

how do you go about the detail adding process? you make it look so natural! I like your method of adding detail as you block it in, but for me it's just the struggle of making it look like detail instead of just random bits throw on the wall.

Also how do you choose your colors (specifically the 40k egg thing, the fantasy is also beautiful but Im working on 40k stuff myself lol)? they fit together really well and yet still show off the detail, i always struggle with how much contrast to add, and how to get the detail to stand out.

What kind of colors/washes did you use for that?

That accidental flash picture is crucial, I couldn't see much without it! I feel like it needs light from all directions to photograph properly. Looks fantastic, can't wait to see it!

Hey all!

I can finally say, the armies and displays are complete, and I have been taking pictures! Timing the angle of the sun was tricky and has taken most of the night. Now on to individual model photos, and nighttime egg shots!

The displays out of the house and being dusted off.

I took some pictures with harsh sunlight and softer dusk light.

Who am I kidding? I am too excited for this! See you guys either late tonight or tomorrow. This is a massive amount of images and photography isn't even complete yet. This will likely carry into tomorrow but I am prepared to make a long, fun night of it. Well, as much as cropping hundreds of images can be!

See yo[img]u all soon.

I see you've got the fantasy army images up here:

http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/587295.page

And they're breathtaking! The army actually lives up to the chair

But I want to see the 40k ones, darn it

Glad you're taking the pictures of the chairs out in the daylight, there's just so much there to see that I think artificial lighting can't get to it all.
