Yay, I finally got my website up and running at mcgibs.com, so now I can get around to fixing all those broken links!

Also, I was visited by Papa Nurgle this weekend, so I drew a gross thing to honour my mucus riddled body.

Thanks guys! Feeling a bit more clear headed today so I snapped some new photos from the holidays.

I got the wonderful Level 7: Omega Protocol expansion for Christmas this year, and I painted up the two new player characters. Like the other Omega Protocol miniatures, the plastics on these are pretty soft and some of the details are mushy, but these painted up alright for boardgame pieces. Mechs are always cool, and the alien Ghin has a nice XCOM vibe going for it.

Love all the new stuff, McGibs! I'm especially fond of the new Bloodthirster. Khorne may be against psychic powers, but he clearly has no problem with his Daemons casting fist, haha! I also really like the mini scorpion. It seems like, on some of your more recent models, the gore looks even nastier and more realistic. Maybe it's just the way you painted it, but did you change the painting technique? It looks absolutely grotesque, in the best way.

Also, any update on when you'll be getting your earlier pictures back up?

Got some group shots of my evil Frostgrave posse. Frostgrave is a pretty great skirmish sized wargame based around greedy wizards and their bands of assorted henchmen. Easy to pick up and play, lots of depth in the types of spells and casters, and some awesome campaign rules to boot.
My particular magicman is a dark sorcerer who I've named 'Maligno' and his crew of nefarious minions. I really wanted to go for a whole 80's/90's fantasy movie movie theme: lots of purples and blacks, Jim Hensonesque muppet monsters, and killer bad guy names like 'Maligno'.
These guys are all converted out of various WFB figures I had kicking around. Mostly empire men at arms, a high elf pheonix guard for the sorcerer, and ghoul for the golum... thing.

First up is the necromancer himself, and his not-so-loyal apprentice, 'Zurko'. His magic wand is a frog with a stick up it's bum.

Next are some of the better paid henchmen, and a lovable muppet.

These guys are the grunts. They carry treasure, get into brawls, and complain a lot.

Plucky archers who are responsible for the majority of my kill tally, and a very flimsy skeleton who distracts the enemy by falling apart and reanimating repeatedly.

And finally a nice group shot.

Excellent stuff for Frostgrave. You planning on mucking about with the Bestiary as well?

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. It's because we are what we are. For all our faults we stand for law and light.

The group I'm playing with has a already has pretty good collective of critters that we've been using. My archers have had to fend off many a frost toad.

Speaking of more bad guys...
I'm already all in for Shadow War. I've always really loved the look of Tyranid Warriors, but they're sort of terrible in 40k proper (and I've no interest in making a giant Tyranid swarm army), but they're perfect as a small skirmish killteam.

I really wanted to go for a good alien look, something bizarre and otherworldly that plays off the insect+dinosaur look of the Tyranids. I also wanted to tap into some Lovecraft style cosmic horror, and decided that these guys are all going to be cthonic blind monstronsities, crawling around in the dark corners of the earth. I might paint them a pale pink-white, like earthworms.

Two basic warriors, feeling around in the darkness with their noodley wiskers.

My Warrior Alpha, sporting some fancy fly wings (He can't actually fly in the rules, but I figure he can go fast enough and they look cool)

Two 'Gun Beasts', which are the heaviest conversions. Tyranids are awesome, but I've never really liked the whole bioweapons/swords that are held like guns. I wanted something totally removed from anthropomorphism, and thus... the "Bee-rex"

And finally a cute little Ravener popping out of the ground like a death worm.

I just completed my massive Skaven Renegade & Heretic army in time for the Astronomicon tourny in Toronto this weekend!
I've been wanting to make this army since imperial armour 13 dropped with the R&H army list, and I knew Skaven were going to be my go to because I think they're such a great and characterful range of models (also I already have a guard army, and I didn't want to repeat myself!). With the way the R&H (and the Vraks horde list in particular) can respawn, this is truly the epitome of an endless ravening horde of evil minions (backed up by some colossus stompy robots)!
I started collecting parts for assembly about a year ago, grabbing bits off ebay. The Skaven Clanrats were perfect to buy in bulk, coming in around only .50cents per model, but then I also needed to stock up on Dark Eldar arms for pistols and melee weapons. The DE arms are a perfect fit and aesthetic, but I had to do a -lot- of shaving off clanrat left arms (shield arms) to add pistol/weapon combos to the majority of the infantry.
Painting the chaff was geared purely for production line efficiency. They're 3 point models, so they only need to look good 'en masse. Primed brown, basecolour grey/red/metal, a quick dip in Army Painter Strong Tone, sprayed with Dullcoat, pick out eyes/teeth/rivets and base with copious amounts of blood. The majority of the 100 or so infantry models were painted in about a month, on and off.

The army consists of 6x 15 man infantry squads (that respawn on a 2+), 3 Helbrutes, 3 Soul Grinders (see my P&M Blog thread!), 3 Rapiers, and assorted support/command infantry.

The Vermin Lord, who's difficult to photograph because of his hunchy pose.

Some officers and banner/sigil bearers to keep the scum in line. The Stormvermin kit is great, and helps to bring the horde up to a more human sized height.

A few flamer carriers (each squad has 2). The flamers are cut down Kroot Rifles, Cadian flamer packs, and some wire for the hose.

Lascannon Disciple team. They come with the Lord, but they snipe things pretty well.

Laser Destroyer Rapier Battery cobbled together from some Manic Forgefather tracks and a bunch of random bits. I know they're supposed to have quad lascannons, but I could'nt figure out a way to make that look good. So they just have magic dragon heads that gives them extra powa'.

Had an awesome weekend at the Astro tournament in Toronto with my rat men hordes. All games were bloody meatgrinders as appropriate. I was afraid that I'd have game time problems moving so many models (and the fact that they come back after they die), but it was never really an issue. Colour coding the squads was invaluable.
I was having some conversations about how cultist/GEQ horde armies feel really fun to play because they have the exact opposite psychological effect of super elite armies/units. With a fancypants unit, whenever it fails to perform or dies, you feel really disappointed a bummed out. But when a useless cultist stabs just a regular space marine in the eye, it makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
Highlight underdog kills include:
-3 squads swarming and slowly eroding two Dreadknights over the course of 4 turns. I hate Dreadknights and watching them get papercut to death was very gratifying.
-Putting the last wound on a swooping Devourer Flyrant with a laspistol.
-In the same game, the last model of a squad killed a charging Tervigon on overwatch, with a laspistol.
-Losing 10+ models in the ensuing fireball anytime I killed a vehicle with meltabombs. In one game, I lost more models to vehicle explosions than enemy shooting.

So, now that landraiders got gud, I dusted off an old chassis I had sitting in my closet and hacked it apart for converting. I always thought raiders were all backwards, what them basically just being WW1 trapazoid tanks. I spun this fella around and swapped the engine and assault ramp (actually, replaced the door with a Valkyrie ramp door). Now that vehicles don't have firing arcs, I mounted the much cooler looking covered (hurricane bolter) sponsons, and smattered the other weapon systems around (havok launcher in the back, combimelta in the hull) and a cute baneblade turret for the heavy bolters.

Finished up my Raptor Lord this morning! He's been a beast in 8th so far, sneaking in and throwing knockout punches.

Also tried out a turnaround gif. It's passable, but I need a better camera than what my phone has.

SO MUCH BLOOD

Bro looks properly brutal I'm curious, what do you run him with in-game? I really struggle to find something worth giving a Lord to swing with, beyond defaulting to the ol' loveglove (which mostly whiffs for me).

Unless you're really giving him just a chainsword? Which is epic af but I'm guessing not necessarily what he's technically rocking.
