Mm I guess the high tier/low tier thing is also affected by who you play with. I felt bad limiting my mates who got me into the game to the low tiers, so come tax return time a while ago I bought a lowe to play with their tier 8s while I ground on up. If you play alone though, I do think a lower tier one would be a good idea.

I for one am tired of fighting tier eight tanks as a tier four scout

Finally moved past them to the T-34. Sure it has a crappy gun, but at least it can last more than one hit, especially if they hit my upgraded turret (which is why I hull down whenever possible)

Which one? I might be able to give you tips in killing them.

I'll admit I've been more focused on World of Warplanes myself lately.

Tier 4 scounts can't kill tier 8s. All they can do is hide in a bush and hope they don't get spotted

some tanks have really bad grinds (german VK 3002 seriese, Jpn tanks in general, the french B1). you can suck it up and grind these tanks and not have very much fun and possibly hurt your stats in the process. I find that it is much easier to find a tank i really enjoy playing that im pretty decent in that can reliably net me a good amount of exp per battle. once i have made these tanks elite, i check accellerate crew training and let the free exp pool up.

there are some tanks that are really good for farming free exp in lower tiers and are still fun to play, but many more are in tiers 5, 6 and even 7.

before i started this latest gak team streak it was fairly easy for me to have a 60-70% win ratio using my IS-2 and IS tanks with the top 122mm guns. 1000+ exp games were very common and that is without premium. being able to deal large amounts of damage nets you loads of exp and credits, missions just increase what you bring in more.

i have had 1k exp defeats, 5k dmg wins being able to do well really makes going up a tree much faster. i have blown over 40k free exp multiple times researching upgrades or tanks just to skip them or to skip a long grind. other than the 2 premium tanks i own (i actually play them very little) i do not spend money on the game, i really do not see the need to except for crew exp, but there are enough missions to reduce this.

My W/R in the Luchs disagrees with you. Load that autocannon with prem and crit the SoB to death. Deadeye is your friend.

That takes gold ammo ands lasts just long enough to get 1 shotted. The only realistic way to do well with tier 4 scouts in tier 8 games is to learn how to be a good passive scout, in other words hide in bushes.

So, wait, you've never set them on fire or critted someone to death? Use terrain, get close, track them, then crit their turrets. Aim for their fuel tanks, set them on fire. Granted, I only have 3k battles or so in lights, with a 55% or better WR for T4 lights, but it does work. Granted, I also have a ton of 'Lucky's from being close to a tank that was then killed by their team mates trying to hit me, but it's not hard.

I've killed tier IX non artys with my Chaffee. God I love that little guy. And then every once in a blue moon I get put into a game with nothing higher than tier VII and it's just pure hilarity.

That would explain what that Luchs was completely failing to do to my IS the other day then, I was wondering why he was even bothering firing at me. He didn't last long but he orange damaged one of my tracks so well worth it.

Any strat that relies on gold ammo has no interest for me.

The new anti-team killing system is absolutely hilarious. Yesterday had one of my own team shoot me at the start, knock about 1/3rd of my hp - then continue shooting in the ground around me. I asked for an apology, but he just ignored me (or didn't understand) and kept it up. I stopped while he was in the process of ramming me, he drove past and I put a couple of shells in the back of him. 2nd one hit the ammo rack, *blam* then I got kicked off the server and banned for an hour

Luckily I don't pay for premium otherwise I probably wouldn't have found it so funny!

On my Lee I racked up 6 kills, killed 1 team-mate, and almost killed 2 others in a single game.

People have no situational awareness. I'd have been very pissed off if I'd been kicked and banned because people can't understand that you don't drive and then stop in front of your team's best tanker whilst he's busy shooting at something you've suddenly appeared in front of.

True, but then you get people raging unjustly in similar situations. We had a waffle E100 camping in a spot way in the back, me and another tank started rolling up, and someone got spotted ages away. The waffle started screaming at me to uninstall and quit and just go burn, because I was between him and his shot. I had been advancing in a straight line, he had decided to change bushes so he was directly behind me, and he wasn't about to see over an AT15. Idiot. If I had pulled in front of him then yeah, justified, but this other tank and I had rolled a good 600m, he'd moved in behind me, then raged he couldn't see around me.

Sorry about the rant. Freaking WT E100s, I hate that tank so damn much.

I never knew ramming was so fun. My M3 tank with 1% health bum rushed a stuck tank and barely tapped it, then both suddenly exploded. it was glorious.

To be fair, it's probably best not to view the tank line up in WoT with too critical an eye when it comes to what tanks are real, and which aren't.

And I'm pretty sure even the latest Zeiss optics carried on Tigers and the like didn't have an HuD that indicated enemy tanks in glowing red

In general with WoT, before the WT line, they generally stuck to things that were at least paper projects, proposed designs, etc. With the E50 they started to go off the rails, because the E50 (design) was a rear transmission. When they decided to create Teir 10 meds, they made the E50 a front trasnmission tank, and the 50M the actual design for the E50. Rather than, you know, add another tank to those damn fascists. The Cromwell is an excellent tank, its just a shame that is may as well be unarmoured

As a player of pretty much everything, I have to say that these new 'Confrontation' (country vs. country) matchups they have introduced generally only end one way for Germany. I've played probably 13-15 of them with Germany involved, and Germany have probably only won 25-33% of those. Although that it completely anecdotal I admit.

Played a game though the other day that had 12-13 Hellcats in it which was pretty amusing..

I played one a few hours ago that had 11. That was funny.

They aren't a very good representation as they tend to only involve a handful of different hulls, as you said 12 Hellcats. I played a similar game ther other day in my Churchill VII, it didn't end well.

The W/L data for every tank was posted on the WoT forums a couple of years ago for the EU and Russian servers. There really wasn't all that much difference between the nations, although some tanks were better than others. I don't read the forums anymore but doubltess more recent data has been posted and I very much doubt that things would have changed. As a player I also haven't noticed any national bias.

Soviet tanks have been reputed to be better than German ever since the game was in beta, if not before. I have never found any evidence for this other than people complaining about specific tanks and Germany has some very effective hulls, for example the E75 is probably the best tier IX heavy. In short I treat it as forum waffle until such time as I see some concrete evidence proving otherwise.

I don't know whether there are stats or not, but what I do know is that situations like this seem to happen every time I play confrontation, to the point where I usually turn it off when I'm playing German tanks

The Russian mvp looks to have been the 122-44, one of the best gold-purchasable tanks you can get. It may have also been using gold ammo, since the owner can obviously afford it cash-wise.

Where were you aiming? The IS has fairly strong turret armour and it has well sloped frontal armour so its one of those tanks that needs careful aiming to beat, although this is true for most high tier tanks. The lower glacis plate to either side of the track link is a good weakspot as is the drivers vision block and the turret cupola. Its exposed fuel tanks are also another easily exploitable weakness.

Its not really worth comparing real world effectiveness to WoT effectiveness

Are you aware of sidescraping? Its something that Tigers are good at.

The 122-44 was one of my favourite tanks. So awesome, especially with gold ammo.
