I've got rulebookes from 3e-5e. I'm looking to get back into 40k but I really would rather not drop $60 or whatever ridiculous price the rulebook costs now. Will be mini book be plenty enough? Is there anything that is missing from it? I could also just play 5e 40k, but I figured if I ever want to play at a FLGS knowing the most current rules will be best. I'm guessing I can get the mini rulebook for ~$10-15 on ebay. Or a fellow Dakka'r

Yep, the mini rulebook is enough to play (well, that and your codex).
That said, borrow a copy of the full thing some time. It's beautiful.

The mini book will do fine.
If you've liked the fluff bits from the previous editions, there's really nothing new in the big book you really want to see.

Yes, there's a reason I keep all my old books I love everything inside all of them. Back in middle/high school I used to skip lunch to save my money and buy codices for armys I knew I would never have the money to buy. I see older edition rulebooks are on sale on Ebay for dirt cheap. Mayhaps I'll pick up a 6e when 7e comes out, just for the fluff and pretty pictures. The rumors of 7e possibly this summer is why I am trying not to buy the big 6e book.

hahaha no.
It's -supposedly- an updated 6th incorporating all e-dataslates and a new starter set involving blood angels vs orks.

Indeed, the mini rulebook will be sufficient. I had the big one and sold it on ebay when I got the small one.

You know, I would be okay with either of these options. If it's not 7e I will jump right in and get the starter for some more Orks and that mini rulebook. If it is 7e that solves my whole conundrum and I get the big book. Are there usually starters released along with the new editions? Or are they released later?

Check faeit212. It looks to be a full seventh edition, not 6.5. Maybe they'll smarten up and remove escalation...

Doubt it, they make more money from people that do want it than don't

I highly doubt this. 6th edition hasnt even been out for 2 years (actually just over a year and a half) ...never in the 25+ year history of 40k have two editions been released in such rapid succession. They arent even halfway through bringing codices in line with 6th and the only thing broken in 6th is ICs tanking wounds for entire squads and the challenge system, but apart from that nothing really needs fixing, so 7th edition in summer 2014 is really doubtful.

It's very much seventh edition, a former colleague works in the studio,
He doesn't like me enough to get me a copy though :(

I agree. Weren't they planning on making sure that everyone was up to date with 6th edition before going into 7th? By my reckoning, there's still Guard, Space Wolves, Blood Angels, Dark Eldar, Necrons, Grey Knights, and Orks that yet need a 6th Edition book. And one of those is still (technically speaking) a 4th Edition codex.

So its either that, or GW really is going downhill and panicking and creating a last ditch attempt to milk their fanbase for as much money as possible to keep their bloated company afloat.
