Im kinda new to the game and going to a kill team tournament in two weeks.

I want to play Imperial fists and now I wonder of this list is legal and playable, and will do decent at the board.

Kill team 200p
Chaper Tactics: Imperial Fists for Bolter Drill

Sternguard Veteran Squad
-Veteran Sergeant w/ Bolter - Leader
-Veteran w/ Bolter
-Veteran w/ Bolter
-Veteran w/ Bolter
-Veteran w/ Heavy Bolter

Tactical Squad
1 Sergeant w/ Bolter
1 Marine w/ Bolter
1 Marine w/ Bolter
1 Marine w/ Bolter
1 Marine w/ Bolter
Total: 200p

Please help me. =)

Before you go any further, be aware that bolter drill does not work with sternguard special ammunition. Which is not to say that they're a bad choice: they are much more killy than tac marines. But they don't synergize well with your choice of chapter.

Also: it makes no sense to put the heavy bolter on your sternguard squad, give it to the tactical squad instead.

If you want to really take advantage of your chapter tactics and make a fluffy list, you might want to consider just taking two tactical squads and fitting them out with a couple of heavy bolters and make one sarge a vet. You can field a dozen models this way, but bolters are not terribly good at killing things.

If you haven't played kill teams before, do try to track down a copy of the rulebook. You get 3 specialist abilities, which will significantly buff some models (for example, giving the Heavy Bolter marine Relentless). Picking the right specialist abilities is just as important as tweaking your army list.

Ah ok.. How about this then? Will it work?:

Chapter tactics Imperial Fist Bolt Drill

Tactical squad

1 Seargenat with storm bolter - leader
4 marines with bolter
1 marine with heavy bolter (specialist: Ignore cover)

Tacical squad

1 sergeant with storm bolter
4 marines with bolther
1 marine with Heavy bolter (secialist: Split fire)

It will struggle against other marines (who will be getting their full armor saves), but will work well against other armies. I know people are sort of meh about heavy bolters on Dakka, but I've always found them to be quite good in kill teams. The force org limitations of kill teams means that you will usually be fighting against squishy troops and light vehicles, and heavy bolters can reliably damage and out-range these things. EDIT: Though I do see that split fire is a specialist upgrade now rather than a general rule. That makes heavy bolters a lot less attractive.

If you know you're going to be facing opponents with 3+ saves, go with the sternguards+tac list you posted (with the HB in the tac squad), or consider doing two tactical squads with plasma guns. You need to be able to reliably blast models off the tables, and bolters won't suffice against other marines. Even heavy bolters /w bolter drill cannot reliably kill models with 3+ saves.

If you would suggest a SM kill team, what would it be? Doesnt have to be IF at all. =) I really need help to come up with something good. I will buy the models this week and paint them.

If I was making an Imperial Fists kill team, I would probably try something like this:

Imperial Fists chapter tactics, 198pts

Tactical Squad (6 Space Marines)
4 Space Marine
1 Space Marine Sgt + Storm Bolter (Shred)
1 Space Marine + Heavy Bolter (Split Fire)

Tactical Squad (6 Space Marines)
4 Space Marine
1 Space Marine Sgt (Leader)
1 Space Marine + Missile Launcher (Relentless)

If I had free reign, I would do something like this:

Iron hands chapter tactics, 200pts
Tactical Squad (10 Marines /w Rhino)
7 Space Marine
1 Space Marine + Plasma Gun (Split Fire)
1 Space Marine + Multi-Melta (Relentless)
1 Space Marine Sgt (Leader) (Stealth)
1 Rhino

The rhino costs as much as 2.5 marines, but it opens up a magical world of shenanigans.

Another idea:

Iron Hands chapter tactics, 199pts
Sternguard Veteran Squad (7 Marines /w Rhino)
6 Veterans (Shred) (Preferred Enemy)
1 Veteran Sgt (leader) (Feel No Pain)
1 Rhino
199pts

Again, you can abuse your rhino for mobile cover and grabbing late game objectives. Against MEQ, if you play your cards right you can drive up and unload your sternguards in rapid fire range of your vengence rounds, and unload on the enemy with 14 shots that ignore armor (can't split fire, but you're killing on average 1 marine with each sternguard vet in one round of combat).

There is also lots of potential for making nasty bike lists in kill teams (the classic double-grav bike blob is 198pts). Assault Marines and Vanguards also seem like they would be fun (take them with Raven Guard, and get bonus hammer of wrath in assault). Or a mini-mech army with a Landspeed Typhoon and a tac squad with a Rhino + Missle Launcher. Lots of options. Make something that will be fun to play, since Space Marines are not really very strong in Kill Teams.

Hordes. They can spread way out to avoid templates, multi-shot weapons are not as effective against them, and they don't have to worry about morale tests until half of them are dead. Most kill team lists have a hell of a time trying to stop a green tide of 30+ ork boyz or a huge blob of guardsmen.

You can get a decent amount of bodies on the board with BT. 14 with 2 heavy bolters, a plasma gun and 2 sniper rifles for 200pts. The rest have options of bp & ccw, bolters and some can take shotguns.
