I noticed theres only captain Al'rahem and normal squads left on the website (atleast in US) if I could get a GL and heavy weapons could I legally cast them myself self use only when they get taken down and where could I get Tallarn GL and heavy weapons?

I found some tallarn style heads but I cant find them anymore, you could get those and get capes from victoria miniatures and make an almost tallarn raiders.

Just because someone isn't currently publishing their intellectual property doesn't mean you can copy it at will.

Not to say it's impossible for you to do recasting, but if you do, you'll have to live with it with what it is.

Also, I'd note that both perry and victoria minis have stuff that would do well enough as tallarn.

Found them, with these heads you can do a good IG Tallarn force. But the GW ones are great models, with natural and fluid looking poses that make them look like real humans in battle and so forth. But these are as close as you'll get.

Personally id get these heads then buy some capes and units from victoria miniatures and go from there.

There's no good reason you can't, you won't be able to use them in GW-sanctioned tournaments but for literally any other purpose you're fine.

Frankly, for all the work and hassle, I'd rather just look at the dozens of third party options that offer multi-part detailed resin and plastic kits for cheaper anyways.

I cant do third party since I cant find a club by me.

And what makes you think playing re-casted GW models at a GW is going to go over much better?

Really, if you want Tallarn, buy it all now before anything happens to it.

It means you can't copy someone's work just because they're not making it anymore.

*Edit* Did Tallarn ever have a special weapon box? I can't recall.

*Double Edit* There's also the swap shop and Bartertown, not to mention Ebay. I found dozens of special weapons for my Mordian that way. Cheaper to boot.

When you own intellectual property, that means that you are the only person who can do anything with that property. That includes such things as publishing it, but it also includes such things as not publishing it.

It's like how the right to free speech also includes the right to say nothing at all. Just because you're not saying something doesn't mean you've given up your rights, it just means you're using them in a different way.

Same thing for intellectual property rights.

I don't think re-casting is the answer your looking for. Besides, using re-casted GW stuff in a GW store is probably even worse etiquette than 3rd party minis.

Why... GW... why?

If you do recast them, realize that you can never legally sell them, and if you're caught using them in a GW store you're going to get in trouble. I would even be leery of giving them away to friends. It's kind of a weird line to walk, so make sure you've learned your local laws before you do anything.

I've considered casting OOP minis for my own personal use, but I'm talking stuff that you literally can't get anywhere but eBay for astronomical prices. I want to convert guys and do some neat stuff with them, but I can't bring myself to chop up very rare minis that aren't made any more. Chopping up guys that I recasted myself doesnt bother me as much though. If GW still sold the models I would have no problem buying them from there, but since they discontinued the models a long time ago its not like they're losing money if I decide to make a few copies of a model that is old enough to legally drive in my state.

In the case of Tallarn though, FW makes excellent models, so there's really no reason to resort to casting. It can be expensive and time consuming, and you're probably better off just buying from FW.

Look, I know its not what you want to hear, and it'll require some effort, but I took 5 seconds and found over a dozen lots of various size (some painted) of Tallarn for pretty cheap. You'll have to strip some of them, but there's a decent selection of heavy and special weapons. You can also make an ad in the shop here, or at Bartertown. It'll take some work, but you can find exactly what you're looking for cheaper than buying from GW.

That and you'll have the real thing without being all sketchy and re-casting.

If you are thinking about recasts DO NOT DO THEM YOURSELF.

In most countries recasting is illegal, however buying them is not (unless you sell them or distribute them). Recasting them yourself could lead to life long poverty if you get legal action against you.

Better off on Ebay and so forth.

GW Doesn't do Tournaments anymore, basically it would depend on whatever tournament you are going to. If you used different models with a decent amount of GW bits then I think you would be able to get away with it somewhat.
