Hey Dakka,
I have a question for yall if you could be so kind as to point me in the right direction.
I have painted most of my larger models to have somewhat of a more, glossy finish and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to what kind of gloss I could use. By pure coincidence I ended up getting what I now know to be a bad bottle of Nuln Oil from Citidel, and was using that for a really nice and crisp gloss effect, really makes the paint stick out and off the model. But now that I'm out, I'm looking to replicate the result. I recently bought a new bottle and realized that it wasn't similar when the model I was painting basically turned out black lol XD

I would suggest painting the parts you want to be glossy with a layer of glass varnish after you're done. I use one from GW (don't know if they make it any more), but many paint lines include brush-on gloss varnishes.

I would use a spray polyurethane varnish. It has the advantage for wargame figures that it's harder wearing than acrylic varnish.

I will second the call for using Pledge Floor care multi surface finish. It used to be called Future, but the name changed. This stuff is very inexpensive and one bottle will last you forever. It is also the best gloss varnish I have ever used.

I have yet to try the future/klear, but know many like it.
My current (until I give the kear a try) is liquitex high gloss varnish.
I have tried about four or five gloss varnishes (including rattle can) and this one seems to give me the best results, and is not terribly expensive.
you can brush it on, but I use an airbrush with it.

You can spray or brush future/klear as well. Wear a respirator when spraying.

Yeah, gloss varnishes as people have mentioned.
Another option, if you liked the effect the bad Nuln Oil was giving you, perhaps try some inks? A black ink will have a glossy finish.
I use Brown Inks on my Tyranids, and it really gives a glossy finish that I like and can't easily be easily be recreated with a gloss varnish.
