I recently completed building all my Marines for this list and want to start playing games versus top tiered army such as eldar and Tau. This game was obviously versus Tau. It wasn't looking so good the first few turns then a couple of key assaults helped me climb back into the game. Let's see if my anti Tau tactics prevail.

Good report! Although it only serves to convince me to get more riptides.

Looking at this from the point of view of the tau player: I would have deployed a bit more spread out with at least one squad of expendable cannon fodder kroot as a buffer around the castle. Even just moving the AEGIS forwards to 4" away from the Tau would have given that much extra room. This would have forced the pods to drop further away from the castle (and Ethereal), and allowed the riptides to intercept with their pie plates.

I'm also curious how the Ethereal died so quickly - I would have thought that with a full squad of fire warriors protecting him he should have survived a round of shooting. did he fail too many Look Out Sirs?

The Ethereal rolled a pair of snake eyes for his first two look out sirs. I placed every squad one inch away from enemy units so he couldn't drop pie plates.

That's fun how '40k ballance' works. An anti-riptide list can get countered by more riptides...

A couple of questions:
- Why 2 grav pistols? Can they both be used, must have missed that in the rulebook?
- How did the buffmander get 8 marker drones?

I don't really know the Tau codex well enough to say in regards to the drones... can't you take them as fast attack or something like that ? In regards to the pistoles check the Gunslinger USR.

Need to read up on that, sounds fun

Also did not consider that anyone would buy just a team of marker drones for buffmander. For a moment I thought I had overlooked something, I plan to ally some Tau to my SM as they are nowadays best friends.

Markerlights hitting on a re-rollable 2+ can hurt.

A unit of gundrones can have any model upgraded to Marker Drones, I believe. Then add a Buffmander for 4 2+ wounds to tank and for BS 5
