Some people have mentioned a massacre contest between Fulgrim and Ferrus, I was wondering what that's about.

Presumably referring to the duel between Ferrus Manus and Fulgrim during the Drop Site Massacre (you can see them in the top left). Spoilers: Ferrus gets killed, along with most of the rest of the loyalist marines. It's a pretty big event in the Horus Heresy saga, the point in time where traitor legions seize the initiative against the Imperium.

Prior to this they were super bros, and they had a weapon-smithing competition (maybe that's what people are referring to). I don't know anything about that other than what I've read on the wikis.

Ferrus only dies to Fulgrim because of the cowardice of Corax and Vulkan, if they had pressed on with him they could have eliminated Fulgrim.

Or, you could say that if Ferrus hadn't been a moron and pressed on suicidally, and instead remained with his brothers, he wouldn't have died - depends on your interpretation, see?

The battle was over before it began. Ferrus may have been the most decisive and brave, but his Iron Hands were decimated even more completely than the Salamanders and the Raven Guard - he would have been better off tucking tail and running.

Or died due tot he enemy outnumbering them severely and the only hope for their survival was attempting to fortify their positions, send away the gene-seed, and attempt to escape. Charging to meet the Emperor's Children was a suicidal move that crippled the Iron Hands and got Manus killed. Let's not forget either that Fulgrim wasn't the only traitor primarch on the battlefield- Horus, Mortarion, and Angron were there as well and soon backed up.

If Ferrus hadn't have let his emotions blind him and fell back with the others then more of the loyalists may have actually survived the initial volley. Remember, unlike the other two, a decent portion of Iron hands weren't even on Istvaan, so if he had lived it wouldn't have been nearly as crippling a loss for the Iron Hands.

I actually find Ferrus a bit of a plot hole, because Fulgrim swore to Horus that Ferrus would join them. This was out of delusion because the Daemon sword was blindy Fulgrim to just how far he had fallen and that there was no way his loyal brother would turn. When he failed, Horus was furious and actually states that it was integral to his plan that Ferrus join them. However, the whole action of the dropsite massacre seems to have been so perfect precisiely because Ferrus did not turn and lead an ill advised assault before all of their forces were gathered. Had they waited in orbit for the other four legions as Corax predicted then they may have picked up on the treachery before landing and a great deal more would have survived.

Another argument is that if Ferrus had actually managed to kill Fulgrim the first time they duelled then he wouldn't have even been at the dropsite massacre in the first place.

Ferrus in that picture annoys me, he did not go to battle with a wrench... artistic license or not thats yust silly. He brought Fireblade.

IIRC he actuely brought a. Random sword, reforging fire blade would have suggested the possibility of repairing his and fulgrim's brother hood. Also, that wrenc looks stuPidly stupid.

It would have been much better to press the advantage, Corax and Vulkan accomplished nothing when they retreated. Obviously they thought they were going back to reinforcements, but if they had waited they would have seen the reluctance of the other legions to move in support of them.

He brought Fireblade, while Fulgrim used Ferrus' hammer in the battle. It was symbolic to kill Fulgrim with the blade of their brotherhood.

First of all, Corax survived another 100 days of fighting until reinforcements picked him up. In a war where surprise was key, 100 days is not "nothing" it's a huge achievement against insurmountable odds. Secondly, the Traitors fell back SPECIFICALLY to cause the loyalists to over extend themselves. The 3 legions that dropped first were already tired and had suffered heavy casualties. Considering they did not know the reinforcements were going to open fire on them, it made no tactical sense to press the attack. Far better to fall back and let fresh troops finish the foe. Neither Corax nor Vulcan were going to increase the casualties to their own legions because one element of the force decides to press on carelessly. To call Corax or Vulkan cowards is as idiotic as it is wrong.

I always hated that picture for that exact reason too. Unless the Ratchet and Clank games are secretly the origin story of Ferrus.



Also, Ferrus had the opportunity to kill Fulgrim, but chose not to. When Fulgrim was presented with the same scenario, "he" (well not really himself) killed Ferrus.

I'm not tlakiing about Istvaan, someone metioned something about Ferrus and Fulgrim hunting civilians for sport.

"Someone mentioned" I haven't seen any evidence of this in any material I have read. Either it's made up or someone has access to some really obscure and really bad fluff.
