Warning, the image may be upsetting for some people...
Spoiler:

A woman cooked her pet KITTEN in a microwave for five minutes because she thought the animal had attacked her goldfish.

In what an RSPCA inspector branded an horrific act of cruelty, Laura Cunliffe, 23, put Mowgli - her black and white female cat - in the microwave believing she had attacked her other pet, Barnsley magistrates court heard.

Cunliffe then arranged for the kitten to be buried after she died a slow and painful death.

RSPCA prosecutor Brian Orsborn said Cunliffe had had the four-month-old kitten for a short time when she put it in the microwave oven, which she turned on for five minutes.

Mr Orsborn said: "The kitten was in a distressed state when Miss Cunliffe took it out of the oven. She took the animal to a relative's home.

"The animal could not get its breath and died about 90 minutes later.

"Miss Cunliffe made arrangements for the body of the kitten to be taken away to be buried. The RSPCA became involved and was able to trace the man who carried out the burial."

Mr Orsborn added that Cunliffe disclosed what she had done three days later when she was at Barnsley Hospital.

After the hearing, Lynsey Harris, the deputy chief inspector for the RSPCA, said in the 13 years she has been in the job she had never dealt with a case like it before.

She said: "It is a particularly horrendous case because the period of suffering for the kitten would have been awful.

"The kitten was about four-months-old and the exposure to the radiation in the microwave would have cooked the animal's internal organs and that will have been pretty horrendous.

"It is a horrific case in the fact the death of the cat would have been prolonged and it is unimaginable what it would have gone through, taking some time to die.

"Our main aim is to get her banned from keeping animals so there is no risk of any other animals she may come in to contact with suffering."

Alan Greaves, defending Cunliffe, said her problems included psychosis and depression, and she had been sectioned under mental health legislation several times.

Cunliffe, from Barnsley, South Yorkshire, admitted causing unnecessary suffering to an animal.

Presiding magistrate Michael Marks said a full range of sentencing options would have to be looked at.

He said: "We need to know much more about you before the court can deal with you."

Cunliffe was granted unconditional bail. She is due to be sentenced on March 13.

I think that she should be put in a mental asylum.

I really don't see the problem here. I mean, it was HER cat...

Joking! Joking! It was, of course, a horrible thing to do to a defenceless animal. I know it, you know it, everyone else knows it, the end.

/thread.

Strip her.

Strap a ton of fish to her

and release about 200 starving cats to chase after her.

Perhaps make it a PPV and raise some money for Animal shelters.

W-what?

Seriously? Not only do you value a goldfish's safety more than the life of a kitten but you have to kill said kitty...via microwave? Really?

She must have tortured and taken apart bugs when she was younger...sweet lord she has problems.

Does this mean this only scales higher when it comes to people? So when she catches a kid stealing a cookie from the cookie jar she drenches them in gasoline, lights them on fire while simultaneously launching them from a catapult?

I often think, on reading things like that "let's see how they like it" - of course, that would never happen, but still, it's a solution which has a pleasing symmetry.
I'm not a cat person, but that woman is not right in the head.

The "depths of human monstrosity"? Advocating torture? This woman is clearly mentally ill, as referenced in the article.

While this is disgusting, let us not pretend that it's the worst thing in the world. I know this is rich coming from "The Cove" thread that I posted, but I never claimed it was the most deplorable of human acts.

Animals are routinely skinned alive across the world and far worse. A single mentally ill person is not the example for humanity to be judged on, if that's what we are doing.

She had been sectioned a few times.......

Being mentally ill doesn't warrant death does it?

If the cat had been quicker - and had a gun - it would have gotten away - and uncovered the truth on Benghazi - because it was an operator.

The true sadness in this story is that while it was an absolutely monstrous act, people around the world do much more hideous things to their fellow humans.

I seriously hope she does now, or will ever have, children.

I'm an animal lover. So sue me. This was a disgusting act. I have a family member with serious mental disabilities and she manages to avoid microwaving her pets. Not only did this lady murder a young, defenseless animal, she did it in what was probably the most painful way possible. No sympathy.

It was a disgusting act, yet, if her mental illness played a part then she deserves a least little bit of compassion or sympathy. Hell. maybe some understanding?

Again, the act was atrocious.

That requires the mentally ill person's mind to be functioning logically enough to recognise that you don't do that, which itself relies on so many factors that it's difficult to say whether or not something like this might happen. One mentally ill person may be fine until they suffer something amazingly stressful, whereas another might have a trigger as simple as seeing a black cat or walking under a ladder.

All mentally ill people are the same!

Nobody has said that the act was fine or not in some way repellent.

If somebody has a genuine mental illness that causes them to act in such a way you shouldn't advocate their death.

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

The old urban myth of the woman who 'defrosted' a kitten in the microwave because it was wet may something to do with this.
small minds echiong an old 'idea'.

On some research this is not an isolated incident, animal welfare charities have apparently seen this before and documented it. A google search shows other cases.

I am not a cat person, but I am upset by this, horrible death, sorry Mowgli, see you at the bridge.

I i Okay, apologies to all in advance.
That was fethed up. I mean really fethed up.
I am a cat person. In my house we have four, including my Bartelby, 2 of which (yes, Bartelby is one of these) moved in of their own violation. I love cats, and i could never imagine people harming them.
What this woman has done in monstrous. No, it goes beyond that. It is despicable and diabolicle. Im... Im beyond shock i think.
Microwaving a living being, no matter what the reason, is never acceptable. Never. And to do this to a kitten on the pretence that she thought-didnt even know, just thought-that it had attacked her goldfish is unbelivable. It is sickening and vile and i hope she will suffer for eternity for it. I half hope she will get to experience it in fact.
To feel herself cooking from the inside out-because thats what microwaves do-and then be pulled out in extreme agony, her own internals cooked, and left to die. Then hauled away and burried.
There is no excuse to what she has done, and if she is that sick in the head then she needs sectioning.
My faith in humanity has just taken a massive plummet.

One thing I will say, a lot of upset people with thoughts of vengeance.

I wonder if they are as upset about crimes against people. Not a criticism just a commentary, a lot of people do think this way.

I'm a cat person too (well, I am my cats person) But I just sat mine on my lap, tapped the screen to get her attention and whispered.

'That's what happens to cats who claw the fething wallpaper off the walls'.

It's a salutary lesson.

Well what mental illness did Hitler have? Just because we throw a catchy name and a new age diagnosis doesn't make a person any less sadistic or violent. It's not unheard of for people to use the mental illness plea to save themselves certain conviction.

The real problem is that at least in California most mental illness's are classified as acute. Meaning your average hold time for these people is 72 hours and they are back on the street. I've seen a select group of people that continue to do horrible things because there is no place to put them.

So should an illness be a death sentence? Obviously not
But if you commit a horrible crime because you are "ill" should you not be held for your actions.
