I'd imagine anybody advocating the torture and death of the mentally ill wouldn't be too bothered about the plight of another person. Their problems are probably their own fault, right?

I don't understand why people can't grasp the difference between somebody that is genuinely mentally ill and somebody that is sane.

Although there was this one story where a woman microwaved her poodle because it was wet, then it died.

Then she sued the microwave manufacture for not warning people that microwaving an animal killed them.

Before you declare me a horrible person, know that I've learned a lot from Dakka. And Dakka has taught me that in this case, it's hard to feel sympathy for the cat. There were rules in the house that the cat broke. The punishment was severe, but the cat knew the rules and willingly broke them.

The real problem is that you don NOT just make the sudden leap to putting cats in the microwave. The scary part about mental illness is that it always gets ignored until something happens that simply cannot be.

Hit her with a brick.

I have to add death by microwave would have to be pretty horrid. Having all your cells vibrate (kind of) till they produce heat would be very painful...least it looked that way when I dried the babies dirty nappy with the baby in it...aaah efficiency in looking after kids, who needs a washing machine and bleach when you can clean mess with a microwave.

Actually, I'm pretty sure I usually call for the same punishment for people who do similar acts to other people. I don't discriminate: I hate all monsters like this.

I love all animals, so this makes me sick. I did not even look at the picture because it may make me tear. For the OP, thank you for putting it in a Spoiler. I have taken enough psychology classes to know that most people with severe mental illnesses do not always know right from wrong. It really should'nt warant death instantly. This, actually happens quite a bit. Not the microwave thing thats a first for me, but animal abuse all around. The problem that I have is that people with a severe mental illness of this kind should not be allowed to own pets. I realize that its too easy to get some pets, cats are one. Both of mine are strays found in my garage, but it needs to be watched out for.

I by no means think she should be let off scot free though. Not to lie, my first thought was kill her with the same punishment. Throw her into a metal box and place it in a fire and lavish the screems. But that is wrong, it is the countries fault that these people are not taken care of and not allowed to properly stay in a place that will take care of them and keep them (and others) out of harms way.

This does make me think about a chinese fur farmer video i found about a year back. Essentially they skin the animals alive and the video shows as one of them moves/looks around skinless. To me both of these things are equally bad. Yes, the fur farmers do it for a living, but not killing an animal before putting it through a microwave, or skinning it is equally bad to me.

If she had killed the kitten then nuked it and ate it i wouldn't think it so bad.

Fine her for being a bad person. I eat meat and am not a hypocrite so I don't place a huge intrinsic value on animal life.

It is the way one treats his inferiors more than the way he treats his equals which reveals one’s real character.

You can tell a lot about a person's character based on how they treat animals.

I don't know if it does or doesn't deserve the death penalty. I think humans in general place too much emphasis on our supposed superiority over other creatures. Animals have some degree of intelligence, many show that they are self aware, and many show distinct personalities as well. You shouldn't dismiss the torture or killing of an animal out of hand simply because it isn't human. The wanton abuse of any living organism is unnecessary and is a crime against nature. I'm of the belief if you are going to kill an animal it should be to consume it. Unless that animal is a danger to other creatures. Then killing it is done in order to prevent unnecessary damage to other animals.

I was previously under the impression that nature had no driving will, let alone one that says it's fine for a cat to kill a mouse without eating it but it's not fine for a human to kill a cat without eating it.

By that logic it is fine for a human to kill another human.

As far as "nature" is concerned, it is.

Legally speaking it's a crime to kill a human, it's also a crime to microwave a cat.

This happened about 10 minutes drive away from me. Barnsley is quite the hellhole.

It is pretty disturbing. But it's the fact that it's a cute ickle kitten that makes the headlines. Had it been a turtle or a rat, less of an issue might have been made.
