I do believe I clarified enough on my stand on this scenario. As I stated before I do not care about this subject because it has no impact on me. I came up with the quickest solution giving all couple equal rights for that was the impression I have seen over the years. The same "Rights" as a traditional married couple.

It is a really simple fix. Just call it marriage and don't bother with all that shuffling about you keep trying to suggest is a good idea for some reason.

The opinions of elected officials can be changed, also of lot of what is happening is out of their hands anyway given various court decisions such as the Texas judge ruling that prompted this thread in the first place.

Change the word "veteran" to "innocent bystander murderer". Keep everything else the same. Same benefits, same legal status, same recognition. Nothing changes, except we now have a national "innocent bystander murder" day to have a picnic on. And "innocent bystander murderer" home loans and the "innocent bystander murderer" college bill.

Two things about just changing the word: 1) The people who are against gays getting married will see through the ruse and just be against gays getting civil unions or whatever you want to call them, and they will be against gays getting married. These people are against homosexuality period and changing the name won't change that. 2) Your also sending a message to gays that everything was fine until you wanted in, we changed the rules allowing people of different races getting married without changing the name but since gays want in on marriage we have to fundamentally change the name. This is implying that there is something fundamentally different or inferior about gays getting married, which I am sure is not what you are intending. Besides once again the term marriage has a specific meaning in society and people do want to get married by the state and for the state to call it marriage, which you don't seem to understand.

If you consider that an attack, then you have done nothing but attack gay people and their desire to get married since you joined this thread.

If words don't matter, and if words can be replaced as long as the rights and benefits are equal to the way they were before, then you shouldn't consider it an attack to suggest that we continue to celebrate you and others on Contract Killer Day. Because your benefits are the same, just the name is different.

No if there is a fundamental flaw in your entire argument, and if words do in fact have meaning and a certain status both to you personally and to the way the public perceives you, then legally changing your status to Contract Killer instead of Veteran would be very offensive to you and every other veteran.

Now I'm sure this whole "here, let me show you how your argument doesn't make any sense by changing a word that is important to you and changing it to something else while keeping all the benefits the same" example is just going over your head and you are already taking it as a personal attack, and maybe gay people on this forum are taking every single post of yours as a personal attack as well. If the republicans would drop the issue along with those who think they can vote away others rights or vote to tell others how to live, it wouldn't take 20 years. odds are it's not going to take that much longer as it is. The battle is being won by marriage equality and once again those Christians came down on the wrong side of a moral issue and are fighting a losing battle. Well depending on your definition Caucasian is more than just white people it includes certain Arabic, Semitic, Indian, Mediterranean, Scandinavian, Slavic, etc people.

Best example I can give you Cheesecat of definition on Caucasian is log onto USAjobs and for crap and grins apply for a job there. I consider myself Caucasian, have always check the box Caucasian, and on military documents on the admin side of the house I claim Caucasian but by Federal Government standards I am "Asian" due to my mother side.

I think there's something to changing the name of legal marriage to civil union just to avoid the conflation with religious marriage.

The arguments about "if we can't have marriage to ourselves then nobody can have it!" are interesting, but I don't think it would represent a victory for homophobes. I suspect most of them would be really incensed that now the gay people are taking the word "marriage" away from them. (On a side note I actually had an English teacher once who was annoyed that gay people had changed the meaning of the word "gay" because he liked the old meaning.)

To be honest I was guilty of using gay in its original terminology as a kid I didn't realize why people looked at me oddly when I said that till later xD

I've been raised in a Republican household, and am a Christian. And although I don't agree with same-sex marriage, it is totally not our right to impose our beliefs on others, and in that way I am grateful the freedom of the LGB communicty has been preserved.
