Subject: what do you guys think of this idea - ancient rylanor?

"Ancient Rylanor's ultimate fate following the events on Istvaan III are unknown. After the final orbital bombardment of the planetary capital of Istvaan III, Choral City, the Venerable Dreadnought took himself off into the depths of the Precentor's Palace, never to be seen again. It was not like Rylanor to run from a fight, though the Traitor Lucius, who initially fought on the side of the Loyalists before turning against them to reclaim his position in the III Legion, overheard Captain Tarvitz mention something about the honoured Ancient guarding something, though he did not know what it was."
hey guys, I just read "fulgrim". now, I have a chapter of space marines descended from loyalist luna wolves, called the hounds of loken
(link for reference) http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/580408.page .
now, I was thinking it might be cool to have ancient rylanor as a member of my chapter, say perhaps he hauled himself out of the ruins of choral city.
I think I could be a good idea (until black library tells us what he was guarding anyway) what do you guys think?

Supposedly he found some kind of secret hanger deep beneath the earth. Now if this is true then he could theoretically have survived the Virus outbreak.

Actually wasn't rylanor outside when the virus bombing started but he was safely entombed inside the dreadnought, then later commentated on the devastation he had to witness ??
It is feasable because Garro went back to find loken on the brink of insanity and recruited him into the GK so you could say they picked rylanor up at the same time

No that was a Deathguard Dread (forgotten his name) He had a tiny crack in his casket that allowed the virus to get in and kill him. Rylanor was implied to have gone underground.

You guys are thinking of a different dreadnought, I believe. There was another one (I can't remember which book it was in, I've read probably fifteen HH novels so far) that was killed by the virus bombing because he had a crack in his carapace.

There is a chance he found a hangar...with ships in it that would eventually be used by the surviving loyalists to get off planet after the traitors left, head over to terra and get conscripted by the sigillite to create either the deathwatch or the grey knights. Just my 2 cents though.

Huh, I thought I read somewhere that deathwatch was created by an conclave of Lord Inquisitors? Did they retcon that? Damn I've got to keep up with current affairs.
Anyways, with the on-going saga that is HH, it's unlike a well-known BL author (Graham McNeill no less) to raise such a plot point and not use it in future novels; at the very less he did so to allow other BL authors to expand the saga at some point.
Honestly Ben Counter's neglect to mention the fate of Rylanor is somewhat odd too; it was written as such that the dreadnought is immune to the virus bombing. And then... he disappeared entirely. So I'd imagine that plot point is gonna resurface in the future, hopefully by Dan Abnett.
But until then... your army is as fluffy as most fluffy army lists.

Unlikely alive, IIRC, their position was atomized fully when Horus wanted to pull out and finish the fight already. Loken is the only confirmed survivor thanks to him being outside the loyalist fortification due to his duel with Abaddon.
And loyalist Luna Wolves during 40k, lolwut.

There's no reason he wouldn't be alive to be honest, he was in a completely sealed environment at the time of the bombing and I'm sure he had some sort of active Vox channel at the time of the evacuation.

It's just too cool a chapter name not to recycle it!
Kinda like the Dusk Raiders.
