Well, as per the title I'm going to take a shot at this new Imperial Knights shenanigans. Personally here is where I stand on them so far. They are good, and quite balanced. Taking more than 3 (unless that is your army) is going to not be smart. Allying them with any strong build of an Imperium army is going to be the best choice. And finally, it doesn't make sense to not run these things! Oh, and did I mention they look bada$$ too?! What I'm going to do with this thread is take every compatible (With Imperial Knights) Imperium army and see what I can do when allying with the Knights. This is so we can all learn about what they do and what crazy combos can be exploited with the release of these monsters. The Imperium has its teeth back! Without further adue, here we go!
I'm going to base this first list off of an IG army. I think that combining some Knights with IG is going to be a great combination because of IGs more stationary play style. With this kind of build you can have all of your fun rockets and pea shotters that IG offers, and then rush a couple of Imperial Knights up the board dropping pie plates and swingin the D  My first draft of the list will be coming later tonight, so stay tuned!

I think a straight 5 Knight army could cause some real havoc on the table against most enemies, I am not looking forward to the first time playing them, my entire gameplan at the moment would be based on drop podding my devastators in behind them and praying the dice gods where with me.

Quite honestly, I don't plan on playing anyone who shows up with 3-5 of those things. Such person clearly seems to be going to WAAC, and I will be forced to list tailor (if that is even possible with 30 HPs of superheavy with 4+ cover saves and 10 S8 AP 3 Large Blasts). The game is changing, I get that, but I'll wait until something comparable comes out for Chaos/Xenos, and then we can all spam cheese.

if you actually read the OPs comment though he's talking about running them as allies. in an allies list they're solid but expensivee. the trick is to find a golden number to take that they work well with your force. I've got a 1750 point list including a Knight under development.
not got anything exact but I have a captain, 3 tac marine squads, 2 or 3 predators, a storm talon and a Knight in mind, sold be a good flexable force. with the Knight being my "heavy armor cracker" backed up by the predators who can deal with light vehicles and heavy infantry. the tac squads will secure objectives and sweep up.

Why must they be a WAAC player? I've had a knight household for years and will finally have legal rules for it. I play them for the fluff. they could suck and I'd still play them

If I understand the rules correctly, this is not a legal list.
Primary Detachment: 3 - 6 Imperial Knights. 1 is the designated Warlord (roll on Imperial Knight Warlord Trait table)
Imperial Knights either have to be your entire Primary Detachment or your entire Allied Detachment. No mixing and matching. We'll have to wait for the codex next week to be sure, of course.

The Knights are the primary detachment ... the IG is allied. It is legal. You have an one HQ, one troop, one FA (you have to field them as a squadron) and one HS as an allied detachment.

Sorry to say but ummm... Knights are meant for regular 40k. 3 mono's with scarabs, screamer stars, the suit drone combo, abbadon, that chaos flying chicken, and eldar in general are more cheesy than these things. If you can't figure out a strategy to kill those things, then your obviously in the wrong game genre... I play vs cheese all the time and once figured out, I've dismantled them with proper balancing, but not completely tailoring. I don't know if you didn't notice, but knights are dreadfully weak vs air units. Also they are SH, every 3 HP's you knock off = a victory point. Anyone who brings them are giving up mass amount of VP's for the opponent. There's so much anti armor out there, it's not even funny. Read through your codex.

I'm sorry but if you don't know how to not spam an army then you don't know how to have fun....running the best damn army out there everytime to roll your opponent isn't fun! Unless you both agree to the steamroll then it's fair game....

If you get steam rolled, then your list obviously sucked... I've been steam rolled plenty of times, does it suck? Yep, it sure does, but it never stopped me from improving my lists and beating them, forcing them to change their "unbeatable list".... As a matter of fact when I play with my group we always give each other tips. Even when I play people I don't know I give them tips on how to get around certain units, ect... In the end it's just a dice game. If you can't handle a terrible loss due to bad decisions or you just brought a bad list then your just growing gray hairs that much faster for no reason.

Well I can tell you that my lists arn't labeled as "horrible' but, I play mostly for fun and have TAC list for the most part. If you enjoy running the latest and greatest spam out there then good for you. Have fun and enjoy the dice game...

I'm not sure I like the way W40k is going atm. I much preferred playing a game on a more squad based level. However you can not use the Orks codex as an example of a broken game model - the book is simply too old now to offer any insight into game balance.
For ork players facing an imperial knight, there's not much you can do. Unless there is something available from forgeworld I'm unaware of.
Give it a few months though, and see how your new codex treats you for anti- SH weaponry. If there is nothing in there, then you can cry imbalance to your heart's content.
Now back OT: Can Imperial Knights be taken by CSM/Daemons as allies? I think a couple would look quite cool alongside my 3 soul grinders.

I thought it was figured out that the extra VP's in exchange for hull points did not apply to Imperial Knights, because they are not considered from Escalation, or considered a Lord of War? Unless something new came out that I haven't heard of, Imperial Knight players don't have to worry about that detail. If it was true and you took 5 knights, that would yield 10 VP's alone, if you took out every single one. That would be awesome for the other player if it were true ( and blowing up as many SH's as possible ). Cannot be taken by CSM/Daemons, sadly.
