Hmm. I used to have some Destroid kits years ago. While I don't own any anymore, I do have a 1/100 Valk. If you guys can wait a couple days, I should be able to get a pic of it next to a Marine or something.

As for the LED Mirage, 5 Star Stories always had some really badass mech designs (even if it is kind of ripped off from L Gaim), and this is just amazing.

Considering L Gaim is also by Nagano (and the Junchoon is basically L Gaim)... this is unsurprising. Asura Temple FTW

That makes a lot of sense. I knew there was a link between the two series, hadn't figured it was that.

He was the Mechanical (and possibly character) visual Designer for L-Gaim, but he didn't really like the way the story went apparently so FSS is sort of 'his' version of the archetypes, but concentrating on the past, with a few changes (Amu in the FSS world is the descendent of nobility, whereas in L-Gaim she was an aspiring actress turned bandit).

The actual L-Gaim characters appear in Five Star Stories? I knew there was an extremely loose connection between the two series beyond just the mecha designs, but I didn't know the characters themselves were in it.

They have equivalents rather than it being the actual character.

I remember a guy who looked like Daba in there at one point.

I was bad and bought the supermarket model kits to build the hideous monstrosity on the left. Haven't seen all the pieces to make the one on the right. Got all the other sentai kits going back a good 8 or 9 years now.

Then I was suckered into buying yet another set of Honehonezaurus. This time it's their samurai Sengoku era castle. It's built out of 4 "kits," and I will use that term quite lightly, but the top, the castle section, and the two dino heads that support the doors are all sold individually and can be built as hideous looking dinosaurs. Plus they all come with tiny little skeleton henchmen. These figures are my super market kryptonite, and I can't help but buy a few every time I see them. My son's got craploads of them now.

A lot of the FSS MH have a direct counterpart with HM, if not a loose link (based on some aesthetic features).

A lot that weren't were designs for L-Gaim that didn't make it into the show, or were drawn afterwards. Blood Temple -> LED Mirage (not to be confused with the FSS Blood Temple, which is different). Proto KOG -> KOG; Emper Temple -> Jagt Mirage.

Ashra temple, despite having the same name and the four hands gimmick, didn't actually look that similar.

Bang Doll was loosely based on the Mk2, though IMO looks a bit similar to the Gayrahm too. I think most people regard it [the Bang Doll] as one of the best looking ones ever made.

So I guess the Tokyo Toy Show is going on right now. Not a whole lot of new stuff has shown up, but there are a few things of interest.

Number 1, somehow Bandai got the license to do Star War merchandise.

Upcoming 1/72 Bandai X-Wing model.

Star Wars Eggs

Movie Realization Samurai Vader (He's 6" tall, same as the Star Wars Black series Hasbro puts out)

Biggest shocker, Star Wars Figuarts

1/12 scale fully poseable model kit

This sort of makes me wonder if Hasbro may be losing the liscense in the near future. I mean, they've guarded Star Wars pretty jealously since they bought Kenner in the 90s and now another company is making action figures in the exact same scale they are and with higher production quality to boot.

Another shot of the upcoming 1/48 Ingram kit

Also, new Gundam Build Fighters series.

And, probably not as interesting to everyone else as it is to me, Kotobukiya just announced an expansion set for the Frame Arms Kagatsuchi-cho kit.

It changes it from a tank-like humanoid, to a centaur-like mobile armor for space combat. Neat!

I like the base robot and would buy it except that I already have too many robots. The add-on kit does a great job ringing the changes and creating a different look.

Interesting about the Star Wars stuff. I will shed no tears for Hasbro after they've killed off far too many things I've enjoyed over the years.

I'll be excited about a new Builders if we get some honest to goodness new SD stuff. I've had a bit of an SD void since the Sangokuden stuff ended. At the very least there's a new update of an old model every few months, like this guy.

After having owned the original for many years, this is a cool figure!

Love the Frame Arms line. The Extend Arms looks interesting, though a bit pricey. At least it looks to be a large number of parts. I don't have the base kit yet, so I guess I'll order both at once.

The reason the Extend Arms 05 is so much more expensive than the previous ones is because it uses a Frame Architect. It's basically a whole new figure.

You're right Jehan, there is plenty of SD stuff still coming out, but it's back to being a trickle, whereas during their big Sangokuden push it was a steady and constant stream. Hope to go grab the new Sinnaju suit next week if time permits.

I'm also well aware of Danball Senki (which is were my avatar is from), but unfortunately the lines don't seem to mix and match as well as I would like. It seems to have tapered off as well since the last show ended.

One thing I know is that Level-5, the designers, are pretty good at milking a series for all it's worth, and there's two new kits supposed to be coming out towards the end of summer. Maybe it will lead into a new series? Only time (and maybe CoroCoro Comics) will tell!

Well, you could always get some Majin Bone stuff if you want something a little different.

Supposedly, Danball Senki will finally make it to the US sometime soon along with other licensed character kits like that Darth Vader. They'll be part of a line called Spru-Kits. The line will have Danball Senki, Halo, and DC Comics for a start. They said there'd be three classes in the line and that the mid range will be 6", fully poseable figures just like the Darth Vader one. Apparently there's also going to be a Storm Trooper, C-3PO, and R2-D2 kits as well.

Unfortunately, I don't see Danball Senki doing that well in the US. For some reason, Bandai just doesn't know how to market models in the US.

...actually, I did pick up one of the Majin Bone kits. Got the Dragon one, and I'm afraid I'll probably pick up the other two regular ones before I head back home, just so I can have my fake sentai team/ Saint Seiya knock offs.

Actually, the way you build the bodies, I could totally see Saint Seiya figures being done in this fashion.

Anyone build that Nobunaga the Fool kit? I found one pretty cheap the other day. Then I thought about it, and it was probably cheap for a reason. Of course that didn't stop me from grabbing a few more Danball Senki kits I found on clearance!

How are those Valvrave kits? I keep seeing them really cheap, but I'm afraid it's going to be all sorts of crazy frustration.

And if you want a Titan, what you need is this if you want to strike fear into your opponent. Spoilered in case of blinding people with its sheer awesomeness.

I'm not surprised that you wound up with a Majin Bone figure. I'm tempted to pick up the Dragon and Wolf ones. How are they? How big are they also? Do they have a lot of decals?

I've got Valvarave I, the red one. It's actually a decent kit. Honestly, my biggest complaint with it is the fact that they didn't include all of the idnividual weapons. Instead they have them all fixed in place on the rifle, something which they do late in the second season. So it's got a bunch of weapons, but you can't use any of them besides the swords, the kamas, and the fully combined gun. Beyond that, the kit was okay. A lot of decals and the scabbards don't like to stay attached to the wing binders. Those wings can get in the way a bit, but they aren't overly fiddly or anything. I can't speak for the other Valvraves though, I do know that they cheaped out a bit on the gimmicks of two of them. The yellow one's large arms would split apart into four smaller ones in the anime, but they left that feature out on the kit. I know they cheaped out on the extra legs on the green one, too. I think they made them unposeable or something. I'm not sure about the blue and purple ones though.

I can't really speak for THE FOOL either. It seems like none of the Japanese sites have bought it. It seems to me that Bandai is doing a one-and-done with Nobunaga The Fool. There's other mechs in the show that IMHO look much better than THE FOOL, but I seriously doubt Bandai is going to make them.

Chogokin Doraemon Robo? Eh, close enough.

There was some actual news on the model kit front today though...

The Reconguista in G's G-Self HG kit was revealed along with clear lineart.

Also, Kotobukiya is back to doing Super Robot Wars kits! Hurray!

Also, HGUC Zeta Gundam II was announced.

Tied and gagged in the back of your car

You know, I kind of like the look of the G-Self. It makes some nice departures from the Gundam Standard that make it look interesting. As far as main MS, it pales in comparison to the Turn A, which is the finest in the franchise, but I can see myself getting behind it. Not a fan of the Aile pack, however. That gimmick's been done, and it looks really forced on this one. Tomino's been pretty resentful of toyetic designs, and it's a shame to see Bandai/Sunrise throwing that on him again.

Looking at the press release for the G-Self and some stills from the latest preview, it looks like you're right in that there are various backpacks. Like the Impulse, it looks like its color will change depending on which backpack it has equipped. Artwork in the latest preview shows a much bulkier loadout equipped to this version of the G-Self as well as a very large, red one with cannons over its shoulders and large binder fins on its back. It looks like a space loadout.

From the latest preview, the show looks a LOT like Eureka Seven AO. I get a sense of AO mixed with some Turn A and a dash of King Gainer.

Oh, and this awesome looking guy is going to be the second HG kit. It doesn't look like there's a solid release date just yet, but both are due out before the end of the year. I'm betting they'll probably have an October release.

And There's a very cool looking mystery MS in the shot with that lineart. I captured the image.
