Lol they were $25 a piece back in the 80's and I thought they were so damn expensive!!

Those weren't model kits. They were part of Takara's Dual Model series of die-cast toys. As I recall, Dougram formed half of the line while the other half was VOTOMS stuff. There was actually a larger deluxe Dougram Dual Model that used magnets. There was also a Blockhead in the Dual Model line. It had clear armor along with the colored armor.

I know they weren't model kits, but they were 72 scale, At least the Dougram side of the line was. At the time me and a neighbor friend of mine used to build 72 scale diaramas (and charmingly nerdy enough - do 72 scale fighter combat). We were so thrilled that we could add Dougram to the line up because they were the correct size.

One the things I thought was the best about those guys (besides having a metal inner frame) was their legs had spring loaded shocks in them. So cool, especially for the 80's. The bar was set pretty damn high ever since.

I've still got a dual model Soltic that I picked up from Pegasus Hobbies when they were still in Whittier.

That really is a cool toy. Then again, any of those cloth style toys with removable armor were awesome.

I'd forgotten about those little spring loaded shock absorbers. The packaging was pretty swanky too, what with the slipcase cover, foam trays, box inserts... they just don't make toy packaging like that any more!

The Gundam spaceship is still listed as "package size/weight unknown"

When HLJ get the kit they will put the dimensions and be able to answer questions about the size of the model.

This seems the right place so I'm gonna give this guy honorable mention. I got this kit and its pretty rad, very very pretty! I'm going to build it up sometime before the end of summer. Maybe I'll proxy it in as a knight. I wish I could bring myself to paint it in Dark Angel colors, but dammit that's not happening!

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Anyone (besides me) try out the Muv Luv line from Kotobukiya. I would recommend the Non Scale line versus their 1/144 line. Non Scale is about 1/100 scale and are usually about a 500 piece build. Supremely articulated and a lot of extras!! Back in November I got into a model robot renaissance because my kid (remembering the Gundam Wing models I built for him one Christmas) wanted to build a Gundam. I wanted to see what kind of non Gundam robots were out there when I came across these. Overall I'm very happy with the Non Scale line. They retail for $60 a piece, but with a little looking you can find them cheaper, hell one time I won an auction for 3 of them for $100.

I can guarantee that it's plastic. If it's anything like the Yamato Cosmo Fleet stuff I've got, I'd wager about 5" - 6" in length. But, since this one isn't blind boxed like the others, and it's a bit more expensive, it's possible that it may not be in scale with the rest and as such, it could be bigger. Possibly 7" - 8" at most would be my guess.

I have picked up a couple of the Kotobukiya Muv-Luv 1/144 kits. They aren't anything to turn your nose up over. They're actually pretty nice. And, if you're like me and space tends to be an issue, the smaller scale is just fine. There's actually a new kit coming out fairly soon. It'll be the Active Eagle, but it'll only be in 1/144 scale.

Also, my usual sources seem to be slipping. Bandai revealed a whole bunch of new Gundam kits recently.
Story info about the new Gundam Build Fighters series was released. The new show is set seven years after the previous one. The Gunpla Battles have come back, but they're now being done as three person team battles. The three main characters are all new. The male lead is Kamiki Sekai, a Gunpla Battle newbie as well as a transfer student/martial artist who looks suspiciously like Reiji. He'll be using the Build Burning Gundam, which appears to be based on several G Gundam Mobile Suits

The second male lead is Kosaka Yuuma (Kosaka China's younger brother) who uses the Lightning Gundam, which appears to be based on the Re-GZ and the REZEL

Lastly, there's the female lead and Gunpla Battle Club's President, Hoshino Fumina, who uses an original SD Gundam, the Winning Gundam

And yes, models have been shown already for all three, plus a BWS for the Lightning Gundam as well as a fourth kit, a variant of the Powered GM, the Powered GM Cardigan (or it could be Guardian, I'm not quite sure). The Powered GM also is already slated to have a weapon upgrade set, too.

And here's the kits of the Build Burning Gundam, Lightning Gundam, and the Lightning's BWS

There's also be reveals of several kits from G in Reconguista. Apparently it has been confirmed that the new show is indeed set within the same universe as the UC stuff. It is just set way far into the UC timeline's future after a new calendar has been adopted.. for whatever reason. I do hope that there's an actual reason for them deciding to set it in the UC universe.

Anyway, new kits, yeah?

Not the biggest pic, but from left to right are the G-Self, the Grimoire (which has a separating gimmick for some reason), the Montero (which is a character specific custom unit), and lastly, the red one is the G-Arcane, which apparently is classed as a Gundam and appears to have an L-Gaim Mk.II style transformation. If you click the pics, you can zoom in a bit.

I was worried when I saw the line art of the Build Burning Gundam, hearing it was compared to the MS from G Gundam. Then I saw a picture of the actual model, and was greatly relieved. The problem had nothing to do with the MS, it's just that whoever is responsible for that lineart is a horrible artist.

My Muv Luv brother!! I am not alone!! The last one I did was a non scale raptor. My kid bought me a 1/144 scale Berkut that I need to build and bring to the office! Koto's efforts in the Muv Luv line are really great. They're or just have release a new version of the non scale Takamikazuchi with better articulation in the shoulders. As the first attempt really could use some improvement. Looking forward to it.

Definitely similar. It looks like the legs fold up the same way for sure.

Interestingly, I notice that the G-Self and G-Arcane do not have the spherical cockpit like the Montero and the Grimoire.

That campaign isn't limited to HLJ, it should be any place that carries Gundam models.

Shamrock is looking nice. And at 4860, it's surprisingly affordable.

Isn't it adorable.

I'm loving the Valkyria Chronicles tanks. I am resisting all of my urge to buy the Edelweiss.

What I'd REALLY like to see is a couple of the Imperial tanks. Not the ridiculous ones the Generals use, but the standard Light/Medium ones.

That would be great.

...and then I could make a giant game board and play fo-reals Valkyria Chronicles...

I don't know if anyone has mentioned it, but I have picked up some of the Pacific Rim figures for use in 40K

Crimson Typhoon = Farsight Enclave Riptide
Kaiju = Tyranid Tervigons, Tyrants, the Swarmlord or a Tyrannofex (with a little work)
Gypsy Danger = Gray Knight Nemesis Dreadnight
Coyote Tango, Cherno Alpha = Imperial Knight
Striker Eureka = Eldar Wraithknight

Besides the "toy" figures, they also make statues (made by Sideshow Collectables) that are big enough to work as full-fledged Titans.

It never ends well

At the very least, it's in his style.

The problem with Okawara is that the only thing he can do is big, ugly, boxy mecha who are all just cheap imitations of the RX-78

Last year at the tournament in Nagoya my opponent used Ultraman and Pokomon figures for the large tyranids

In my Local Volks shop they had a showcase of the new Five star story 1/100 L.E.D.MIRAGE V3 model.

I'm sure you can get a loner army. Or go to the grocery store and stock up on Honehonezaurus- they're my go to proxies!

You should totally go pick up a game next time you're out there visiting our brother.

I could probably field an entire Tyranid army made entirely out of kaiju. That's pretty sad. Got plenty of little super market ones to use as warriors, SD ones to use as gaunts, and of course all the giant stuff.
