So, I have been focusing on my Necrons but I find myself looking back at my Tau, They where my first army and they are still my favorite army both in models and fluff. I stopped playing them because my friend who I face the most found them very boring since I mostly stood still and fired on him. But now I wanna play them again, So I thought "Why not make a more mobile force?" So my plan is to get the Farsight Enclave supplement, and then have a few units of Crisis Suits, Mayhaps Farsight and a big bodyguard of suits, Some kroot, Stealth suits and a single Riptide (No more then one) And then Vespid Stingwings (It is a for fun army so I dont care if they arent super good) and one or two groups of Piranhas, and some Sniper Drones. This is my idea for a more mobile force so I wont be standing ina corner shooting all game!

I understand the desire to make a mobile Tau force. They were a mobile army under the old codex but now that I lot of the mobility focused upgrades are gone it is a lot harder to keep the Tau army mobile, but it is still doable. You have the right idea though.

For troops Kroot with a single hound are a good start. Infiltrate and move through cover gives them a level of flexibility and maneuverability, and they won't break the bank like Devilfish mounted firewarrior, which are still on the slow side thanks to the removal of the multitracker. Farsight enclave supplement crisis squads are even better.

You also need to keep the markerlights mobile. You can either due this with marker drones, which are most effective when attached to target lock equipped crisis squads or the commander so they can benefit from drone controllers, or by the use of tetras. Both approaches are quite effective. On large crisis squads, you can just take marker drones as part of the squad at a 2 point discount without even using a fast attack choice, freeing those slots up to use on actual fast attack choices. On that note, both piranha and barracuda are excellent choices, and I have actually been having success running double sunsharks of all things (the razorshark, sadly, I have found wanting).

The HQ should obviously be devoted to the Commander and Crisis suits based special characters.

The elites are all obviously good choice. Despite the venom directed towards them, don't be afraid to run multiple Riptides. Thanks to the removal of the multitracker and the A.S.S. from the codex, they are now Tau's only set of big guns mounted on mobile platforms. A pair of them will rarely steer you wrong.

Heavy support is essentially ignored in these builds. Nothing in this slot can move over 6" while maintaining effectiveness, assuming it can move at all and fire effectively at all.

Actually, Riptides are your best mobile option. The 4D6 JSJ move is awesome (the ion gun doesn't need a nova charge for shooting), and better speed than any non-flyer unit in the codex. Obviously they're the core of a static gunline, but they're also the best core of a mobile force.

Alternatively, if you want an old-style mobile Tau army go for tank spam. Trade your opponent "no Riptides" for getting vehicle multitrackers (shoot like a fast vehicle) back and take 3x Hammerhead, 3x Barracuda (or Remora squadrons), and some troops in Devilfish. And then add a Tigershark AX-1-0 when you play larger games.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

Well, I dont want to use more then 1 Riptide as I dont want to use too many too powerful units and the Riptide is too powerful to have more then one. I'm planning to get the Farsight Enclave codex so I can have a couple of units of Crisis Suits as Troops, With a couple of units of Kroot as troops, And then have one Riptide, And two units of Stealth suits as Elites. One unit of 10 Vespids (Because I like the models and they are a fast moving unit) And one or two units of Piranhas for Fast Attack. And I think a single Hammerhead, And maybe a unit of Sniper Drones as Heavy Support.

That should be a mixed, varied army that is quite mobile, Right?

Well, with the updates to how Rapid Fire weapons work, the old Fire Warriors in Devilfish actually works a little better than it used to. That's the thematic core of a Mont'ka army like you're describing.

(Too powerful sounds like a good thing)

one gets shot to bits, 2 causes untold annoyance and rage as they jump around the table (not forgetting to hide behind buildings... 'cowards!!!' )

Many forget that suits and riptides can be quite a moblie force when the opportunity arises, it depends upon the opposing army (IG infantry gunlines are a pain, better to keep jumping back and forth). Its a good mid to late game 'hack off' when the opponent finds out that after he has been gunned down you then go for him instead, pushing 2 riptides up the table with support tends to finish the job quite well.

Oh and fire warriors in devilfish are handy, my two 6 man squads have always been a good support force... a quick drive by is always useful

Well, Pissing off your friends so they dont wanna play against you any longer because you spam OP units isent what I call fun, So no more then one Riptide. I try to avoid using too much OP stuff and keep my lists friendly for fun lists.
