Thank you! It was all thanks to tape and the airbrush.

Use Tape - cut it into squares,, and then apply it so that the corners touch but do not overlap. Spray black after doing the basecoat prior to applying the tape and there you have it! Let it dry a good while before pulling the tape off. Cleanup as needed. DONE!
Hope this helps.

Wow, that is some intense weathering! I like it
I think it works really well on the shoulder (extra checker paint peeking away to show blue beneath). I'm not quite as sure about the blue parts of the shins, but they're hard to see in the pics.
I think the blue in general just appears less weathered because it is only weathered with one color (Brown). What about having the actual metal show through in the blue? Just a little bit

That's an ingenious way at going for a more natural chaotic-rusting effect! I might have to try it next time I paint a vehicle!

Haha thank you! I really appreciate the very specific feedback and suggestions for improvement. Do not worry though - there will be metal scrapes and edge wear added to both models. Just trying to get them both to the same stage at this point.

Glad you like it! Also, if I can make a suggestion - what I'm finding is that since I'm using a spray-can sealant (I know - I have an airbrush but I use aerosol cans and that is grounds for summary execution) it's giving the layers an almost textured look that adds a lot of detail and depth to rusting and chipping. I recommend, if you want a similar effect, to do the same thing or try spraying sealant on the model after the primer to give a nice texture for the paints to layer over.
Just a thought. Thanks for looking!

Interesting about the spray sealant... so you're sealing and then painting on top of it?

Not quite. I'm sealing between layers to save progress. But since its a spray can it is leaving a small texture that wouldn't be present if I used the airbrush. Its a nice added depth to me.
But yes, each layer has had a layer of paint go over it.

HELLO ALL!
Been a long week, so here's some more WIP photos. Have both Boba and Jango ready for the metal scraps, hope to get started on that tonight or tomorrow.
Started working on Boba's undercarriage details - pistons, brass bits, etc.
Hope you didn't miss me too much!
For those who were curious, this is how I get the square/diamond patterns done to near perfect:
And here's what they look like before scraping them up:
And here's how Boba stands now w/ the red on the gauntlets too:
And YES, the gauntlet red will be torn up as well when complete.
Jango's so proud of his boy!!
Hope everyone had a fantastic week and has an equally amazing weekend of progress making!
Keep on Keepin on!

That's right everyone. We have a new delivery to make - progress!
But first, to my adoring fans..... or rather just those interested enough to make a comment:
Paradigm wrote:Great stuff, Boba is looking awesome. I like the brass accents on the metallics, too.
Thank you! I hope that this update will give you more to be excited about! And much, MUCH more Brass & Gold!
So not to pat myself on the back, but I think Boba looks PHENOMENAL RIGHT NOW!! I've made a lot of progress on the paint job - the only thing he's missing is a few details to the armor plates and a majority of details on the arms.
The gold was meticulously applied, and after I was done I didn't even like it. Then after a few days of not looking at him, it grew on me. QUICK.
But more importantly, WE HAVE A BASE!!!
SUPER PROUD OF THIS BASE!! This is the kind of detail that I've always wanted to do for a diorama or display board/display piece and just never got around to.
PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK - SUGGESTIONS FOR IMPROVEMENT ARE WELCOMED!!
Made by cutting cork board to size on the base, but leaving a portion empty - originally to paint as a street while I made the cork into a curb.
Ended up using ceramic bricks from Secret Weapon Miniatures to form the curb, then sidewalk. Then decided that the street was too blah and ended up using a few pieces from the imperial city box set to make a pipeline for him to be towering over.
Finished up by breaking some bricks, carving out a small crater, and then sprinkling bits of cork board and flocking cork into the open areas around the sidewalk.
h
I even got a start on the paint scheme!
The plan is to add water effect when finished to make the tube appear to either be spilling septic water or toxic liquid out of the tube. Also going to mix up some SWM Mud pigment and liberally apply it to the base and feet.
Been real busy with the Girlfriends Birthday last week - and now this week is shaping up to be just as busy. Hopefully I'll be able to knock out the base or at the bare minimum make some serious progress on the arms.
Well that's about it everybody! As always, let me know what you think - good and bad both!
Keep on Keepin on!

Hope everyone has enjoyed the excellent weather the past few days (in the midwest at least)!
It has made a distinct impact on my progress this week - but come on, with weather that nice you'd be CRAZY not to go out and enjoy it!
But I did manage to get the base to 99% complete! Here it is:
The water in the crater is clear now - I had just applied another layer of scenic water so it looks cloudy.
After painting the base around the pipeline w/ various greens, blues, and some liberal washes, I added some green and burnt green colored flock to pva glue, mixed it until it was nice and chunky, then applied it around the pipeline and a few chunks in the open to simulate algae.
Added two tufts of tall grass for some added flair, and then started applying the SWM scenic water. After it settled a bit, I added more and decided to add some color to the water. It looked too clean.
So using an eye dropper, I added a few drops of devlan mud -- the using a paperclip to pull the wash through the scenic water, it started to look like it was another compound flowing through the water like oil. Let dry, repeat until the water levels were where I wanted them.
In the end, the edge of the base had a lip that was higher than the area nearest the curb. But a buddy of mind pointed out that it made sense and added to the cinematic of the base as the Titan's footsteps would cause the water to react to the vibrations, flowing away from the step when the foot hit.
Now all the base needs to be finished up is a coat of black on the lip of the base, some mud on/around the feet, and some color added to the lamp.
Arms have not seen any further work - still shouldn't take too long once I get started.
That's all for now - hope everyone has a good one!
Keep on Keepin on!

HEY EVERYONE!
Been a rough week - was sick most of it, but managed to still make plenty of progress. Here's where Boba stands right now:
Weapons are done - FINALLY!
Well, I say done, but the entire model is ready for a final application of rush washes, grime washes, weathering powders, and mud to the base as well as scenic water to the pipe. So yeah....
.... but for my purposes, IT'S JUST THE SMALL STUFF THAT'S LEFT!!
Here are a few close ups of the weapons and the head - changed the metal to be a richer red color.
Also managed to get some work done on my Custom Helldrake and Minotaurs Drop Pods.
Hope everyone had a fantastic weekend.
Keep on Keepin on!
And keep that feedback coming!

Wow, this is quite an ambitious project. I'm not really into Star wars, but I can appreciate the amount of effort that has gone into the background for this army.
The base, however, is absolutely amazing. I always struggle with getting the right look with basing, and yours completely blew me out of the water. The water effects and the street look so realistic.
The amount of time put into these knights is astounding. Keep up the great work!

Thank you. Bases are where I always seemed to struggle. I have great ideas, but I'd always manage to find a base from a 3rd party that would get my point across. However with these larger projects, I finally just gave in and went nuts.
I will never forget how much I learned just doing Boba's base.
Initially the pipe was never part of the picture - it was going to be a curb and a street w/ a building corner in the back. Then one thing led to another and I just ran with it.
I hate to say it, but I honestly believe that creating bases is my favorite part of the hobby now!

Today was a good day.
Played my first game against the new IG. Minotaurs vs IG @ 2000 points.
Was a well fought affair, but I managed to squeeze out a tactical win by deeptriking in near his HQ squad and tieing them up in Melee on turn 2.
We ended up calling it at the start of turn 4 as I had approx 16 victory points and he only had 1 from a combat squad he managed to smoke.
All in all the game went well, neither of us made terrible tactical errors, and my dev. centurions managed to only lose 1 man of the starting three.
Also managed to get a stencil made out and started putting some more detail to the drop pods. Was a test run for making the Mandalorian skull for the knights.
*** Did add the water effect to the pipeline on Boba's base. Hope to have all the water effect done with by this weekend.

Short update tonight:
Added the metal chipping to Jango tonight as I felt like a change from stenciling my Minotaurs.
Also been thinking about how to base Jango and give him his own style base, but still maintain that it is in the same general setting as Boba.
So after looking for some inspirational photos from The Clone Wars, I found this:
I'll let you figure out what I'm thinking...
