in history we had to watch a movie called Gallipoli.
quick lesson- during WW1 Australian soldiers landed in turkey and were met by heavy resistance by the "Turks" the Australian soldiers dug trenches, and the Turks already had them. so, the Turks played the waiting game. the Australian soldiers were ORDERED to run across no-mans-land. approximately 4 percent of those involved in these rushes survived. now, finally the Australian leader went "screw you" to his highers, via phone, and ordered the charges to stop. one main character was in line for the next charge as the messenger rushed to tell them not to run. he did not make it in time, and the charge commenced. the final scene in the movie shows the main character get shot through the chest, and the screen blacks out.
I laughed really loudly when this happens, and my history class was not amused. although I was already mutually hated by every person in my grade at the time.

Yeah, but I can see where you are coming from... I mean... it was Mel Gibson getting shot through the chest. That always brings a smile to my face.

I think the strangest and most annoying reaction to a 'film' I've ever seen was seeing the 2013 Adrian Lester version of Othello (unfortunately not live). In the climatic scene, in which Othello tragically and mistakenly murders his wife, half the audience started laughing for no apparent reason, ruining one of the best versions of that scene/play I've ever seen. I was tempted to walk out, and know people that did.

I've got to say, the Dune miniseries is one of my favourites of all time. Ian McNiece was simply perfect as The Baron, he just plays it perfectly as the manipulative, evil guy he is, as opposed to David Lynches frothing lunatic with a jet pack.

However, I think to enjoy it, you genuinely have to not see it as a TV show / film series but instead think of it as a recorded stage play. Which was pretty much the theme behind it. Heck, characters even perform soliloquies during it and they're *great* and remind me very much of the original House of Cards.

But yeah, think of it closer to Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds, as opposed to Tom Cruises and you'll do fine with enjoying it.

Yep, it really is. I could never tire of listening to that music, and the live version is nothing short of spectacular, I recommend anyone who hasn't seen it hunts down the DVD, it's awesome.

Weirdest reaction was not my own, but rather some other people in the cinema. It was when we went to see Independence Day. A large group of friendly american tourists were going to see it at the same time.

After the presidents speech, everyone in the movie is cheering and clapping. I lean over to my brother and say "Wow, this surround sound is AWESOME!" he just wordlessly points to the middle of the cinema where every single American was on their feet applauding, cheering and hooting.

Is that common in the US? Irish people tend to applaud when planes land, but not in cinemas!

I don't think it's too stereotypical to say, that going to the cinema in the USA is a completely different experience to the UK or Ireland.

The most noise you'd hear in England is some faintly embarrassed laughs in a comedy.

I once went on a date in a cinema. Some kids on the front row had a popcorn food fight.

I knew a guy in work who casually stated he watched Downfall, the German film charting the harrowing final days of the Third Reich (and which gave birth to the Hitler rant meme) to relax after a hard day with a cup of tea. I asked how he could possibly relax to such a dark film, which includes a scene were a suicidal official detonates a grenade at the dinner table, murdering his whole family. He said it was fine "because they're all Nazis".

The only dramatic one for myself I can think of is Revenge of the Sith. When recently 'turned' Anakin walks into the Jedi Academy and goes to murder the children I burst out laughing in the cinema, on my own. Its such a dreadful film I was hardly in a serious mood but that scene, so lazy to get over he's evil, floored me.

That said, it's a bit of a foregone conclusion, since some of the posters for the movie ran with the ending shot on it.

first time I saw that movie was when I was like six. my mother is a massive star wars fan, and we watched them all the time. that particular scene she would always skip. always.

Are you sure? Granted, it's been years since I last watched it, so I'm willing to concede that I may be mistaken, but I thought it was Mel Gibson getting shot and his best friend who failed to run fast enough to stop the charge.

It's definitely Mel Gibson not being fast enough to save his friend.

It is Federal Law that whenever an American President gives an awesome rally speech all Americans must stand and cheer. Its the law.

Nota film, but I recall an embarassing moment when I burst out laughing during church. The priest was doing a reading and it went something like...

"Jesus went to the village and taught to them. In return they gave him fruit. He then went to the town and preached and the people gave him bread. Jesus then went to the hamlet and preached the good news, and in return the people tried to kill him." Then paused for effect.

I heard a Monty Python voice in my head say, "Well that seems a bit ungrateful." I laughed very loudly and cut through the silence. My other old flame at the time totally stared daggers through me.

You'd think that Jesus, of all people, would be able to appreciate the humour of a situation.

Well if you picture Mel Brooks as Jesus....

I don't know if this is odd or not but I teared up at the Lego Movie.

I walked out of Slumdog Millionaire, almost at the start, with the initial torture scene.

The Sci-Fi equivalent of bringing water pistols to a School shooting.

When I was in high school, a large group of friends and I went to see Devil's Advocate. Something about the movie resonated poorly with my mostly fractured teenage mind and I ended up walking across about 8 lanes of highway after the movie. Good times.
