I wonder if anyone has yet thought of the idea that the Codex: Imperial Guard (that exists now) and the new Codex: Astra Militarum could co-exist in the same edition? Afterall, the new codex has a different name and seems to have new units that don't exist for Imperial Guard. Even if they shared a lot of units, Space Marines have done this forever. Additionally, it's not like any of GW's codices say that it "replaces the previous edition of this book". Players just assume it does. Perhaps Astra Militarum is just some retcon spec ops faction within the Imperium.
I'm not saying this is likely, but the whole thing is so lame that players could just as well decide not to allow GW remove one of the most iconic armies from the game and replace it with Codex: Astra Latinus Absurdius Storm Piggicus.

For people who don't like the truck this 1:35 scale Hover track from bandai (from Gundam 8th MS squad) could be a nice alternative.

I don't particularly like that one, but I find it embarassing that every single alternative model, including the China shanty town contraption from 70 years ago, are vastly superior to GW's human elite trooper transport.

I think it's kind of pointless to look at alternatives until we know how big it is.
If it's "bigger than a chimera" and supposed to transport Ogryns, I imagine it's quite large. The price suggests Leman Russ size. but GW isn't really consistent with their pricing.

Those Tempestus look fantastic. I'm genuinely surprised and impressed. Sadly, the price is ludicrous.
That armoured truck looks about as awful as I've come to expect of GW these days, sadly. It's like GW is satirizing itself, but it doesn't get the joke.

That truck just doent fit with the IG in my opinion. It would be better suited as a looted Ork truck or Battlewagon (depending on its actual size).
I am also not a fan of the Scion's either. Gothic breastplates and a beret? who are they tring to be lol.
I have been busy painting and converting my Guard over the last few months and really enjoying myself.
If this is what is going to be comming out, I will just find better models and substitute.

Well then, if that be the case then i could always take my 70+ Steel Legion, put them in a bag, then brain the writer of that codex into submission! Go metals =P
In all seriousness a Steel Legion supplement would be rockin if it gave special rules to Chimera Vets and/or IS in Chimera, maybe give them a special price on commissars or if a commissar lord is leading the army, etc.

It's probably worth waiting to find out the actual size and application of the Taurox before people get too carried away suggesting alternatives... Automatically Appended Next Post: Necro wrote:I am also not a fan of the Scion's either. Gothic breastplates and a beret? who are they tring to be lol.
40K Stormtroopers?
The berets harken back to the 2nd ed Stormtrooper models, and the breastplate is very similar to what Guard officers wore in Roge Trader.

Several of the commissar units (and the lord) all wear metal bresatplates, you just cant see them very well under their coats

Yeah, it was the specific style of breastplate that I was referring to, though. The Scions are essentially Rogue Trader guard with 2nd edition berets and 3rd edition guns.

So I'm wondering, does anyone here think that when the new stormtroopers are released, the old metal ones will go bye-bye? I'm not really too crazy about their new look and I'd like to get some of the classic guys soon, but I'm worried that they'll probably be gone before I can get to them.

Got my 3rd(?) ed stormies safe at home, but you could easily wing it that each stormtrooper squad has different equipement pattern, since they come from all around the Imperium
I hope the mini-dex mentions something about their numbers, because 10 000 is really not enough.

I don't really like the actual current Storm Trooper models, however I'm very tempted to get some Kasrkin just in case they are removed. I don't HATE the new ones, but they aren't blowing me away and they cost a fortune. IG are already one of the more expensive armies to collect without giving us only 5 models for $35.

Givent hat GW discontinued metal production some time ago, and recently (apparently) began phasing out 'Fine'cast, yes, that's pretty much a given.

Dont get me wrong I like the beret. I have some of the old stormtroopers with them and they are great models. The breastplate is to fantasy looking for my liking and together with the beret makes them look silly in my opinion.
If these are the stormtroopers I was so looking forward to being released, I will be building my own.

Astra Militarum is a rough translation to "star military" or "space military" if I'm not mistaken. Add the Commissar on the front of the codex cover and the fact that the confirmed codex supplement Militarum Tempestus shares its kits with the Astra Militarum and there is absolutely no doubt this is the "new" Imperial Guard.

Australian pricing is whack, so I used the UK pricing. By UK pricing it's 29GBP, that's closer to Leman Russ pricing (31GBP) than Rhino/Chimera pricing (22.5GBP). You can't really get anything based off price anyway, as all tank variants of the same hull are much the same sized but vary massively in price.

Someone said to me the other night it may just be a blanket name for all the organisations involved with the imperial guard (like navy and commissars and so on) all combined under the term astra militarum. I am doubtful of that but wouldnt be too bad at all.

Other than the new codex, I haven't seen anything here that I want to pay money for. TBH, I'm not even sure I want to pay money for the codex, and IG are my primary army!!!
I will wait for reviews of the codex before I buy one.
The vehicle is super ugly and defies any functional logic. Perhaps it is a 40K steam tank?
The Scions are OK but their aesthetic just doesn't look right to me. I also wonder how posable the models will be with the hotshot hellguns. Those power cables may mean that the torso positions are fairly static.
The rumors still mention three more kits (Ogryns and two others). I hope those kits will be better.
