Subject: Should I play orks or Sisters for my second army?
I plan to run a second army along side my nids, and narrowed it down to Orks or Sisters, which do you think? Are orks going to be similar to nids?
Also, screaming "DEATH TO THE HERETIC!" and "PURGE THE UNCLEAN!" is a major plus for the sisters, though it will sound increadibly awkward for me to voice them being male.
Then again, the orks have "DAKKA DAKKA DAKKA!" that I could scream at my enemy.

Go with the one you want most, but keep in mind that Sisters minis are very expensive compared to other armies and you'll have a hard time collecting them. But then you'll get an army that few others play and will be unique.
Orks, wait for the new codex.

Looking at the sisters models, I dunno, they just seem kinda... ugly. The faces just seem kinda malformed. Also, if they are moslty metal, that is a very big issue for me considering I dont have money or know how to paint metal.
Now that I think about it, IG also appeals to me. I love the WW2 look, and they arent even that "Burn the heretic" for an Imperium army (Which is what I hate about Space Marines, and the over the topness of the sisters is what I love). The orks has the be for the energetic nature of them, but I guess that wont really be felt on the table-top.

Let's put it this way: do you have loads upon loads of cash to spare? Pick sisters. Do you just have loads of cash to spare? Play orcs. Don't have loads of cash to spare? Don't start a second army.
Might be a bit over-simplified, but that's how it works nowadays...

Playing Sisters is a labour of love, but a rewarding one.
Owing to the cost of the models, your army will grow slowly, but it will be extremely powerful in the low-points games you will be starting out playing.
The power curve will start to taper off as you get into the 1500-2000 points range, as more fliers will begin to dominate the arena, but anything shy of that can be readily dealt with by the options at hand.

Do you mind your army being expensive, heavy as hell, bad in high points games, and having about half a dozen viable units? If not, then play Sisters.
Do you mind having the oldest available codex, needing to paint hundreds of models, being unsure what the rules are going to be for them, and playing an assault army in a shooty edition? If not, then play Orks.

As a Sisters player, perhaps I'm biased, but just to quell some of the rumours regarding the models.
Yes, Sisters can be expensive if you buy them direct from GW. The trick is, don't buy them new. Sisters have this unique property in the fact that all the models are made of metal. What this means to you as a second hand buyer, is that even if they're painted horrendously in gobs and gobs of paint, they're easy to strip down to base metal as purchased condition (yay acetone!).
The issue is just in finding a Sisters player who is looking to sell, which means you may have to expand your horizons when looking for people selling (Bartertown, dakka swap shop, librarium online "lobay", craigslist, etc). Even ask around your gaming group, most larger groups usually have some player who fondly remembers the days of the Witch Hunters codex with a group of Adepta Sororitas on the shelf at home collecting dust. The only place I avoid is ebay because generally it's retailers selling the models used who tend to charge high "Buy It Now" prices, not the sellers auctioning the items directly.
You may have to buy a few models from GW to plug the gaps, particularly special/heavy weapons that you weren't able to find used. I recommend you avoid buying the "one click collection" bundles as there is no price saving compared to just buying the models you want individually. The only kit I do recommend purchasing direct from gee-dub is the Immolator kit. It comes with enough Sisters do-dads and banners to easily sisterfy a razorback or rhino (both of which can commonly be found used from Spess Mahrine players). Exorcists can also be easily converted from Whirlwinds, and useless Storm bolter sisters (which you may end up with a few of if you buy used bundles) are easily converted to meltagun girls through the addition of a standard spess mahrine melta nozzle.
In short, Sisters are no more expensive than any other army, they just take some patience and a bit of hunting to spot the bargains. And as a player, I love my Sisters. They're unique, they're fun, and they're unlike any other army in 40k. Cheers!

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Spoiler; the orks in that video are far more orky than orks on the table these days
Orks can be a cheap as hell army to collect, due to the vast quantity of AoBR Orks available second hand. Buy these, buy bits, and your good to go. Buy toy tanks, convert them with spikes and gak, and bam you have an army
My Killa Bursta superheavy tank cost me five bucks. Doesn't look as good as a $200 forgeworld model but looks good enough and was five frikken bucks

Have you seen them in person (as opposed to only through pictures, I mean) ? I think the basic sisters do not look that great, but they are okay-ish to give a mass effect, while some of the Sister Superiors are really beautiful. Especially the one aiming the bolter, I LOVE this model.
One solution for you, I guess, would be to play IG with Sisters allies. Then you will not have to get too many of those basic sisters, and you will be able to field cool stuff like Celestine, some Seraphims, maybe an exorcist.
Also, it depends on which level of competitiveness you want to achieve.

I should hope so, pretty hard to play your fliers without the right ones!

If you play sisters, you can get rhino's and (as mentioned) whirlwinds for exorcists and make them sisters. At the time I didn't have any bits, so I used paint jobs to make them Sister-ish.

I started Orks in early 5th mainly because of thrift, (Cheap as hell thanks to AoBR,) and Sisters of Battle because I won too much at my LGS.

Sisters of Battle are pretty cool. I have won more tournies with them than any other army, even my Tau who are my first love and will always be.
However the Sisters of Battle bring, effectively, a Veteran IG army in power army and a lot of close range firepower (8" to 12" is their ideal range). It requires a tactician to play them since they canot just sit and fire like some armies have the luxury of doing. They must be active and involved in the action start to finish. They scare the willies out of enemies on their turn. They take it in the face on the enemies turn. I find this a pretty satisfying game experience to have because who doesn't like to see an opponents smirkl replaced with furrowed brow and concern? Lol. On my turn Ive already planned for the losses I'll take, found the calculation acceptable and have positioned myself to increase enemy concern once they finish. =)
Hold out bait to entice the enemy. Feign disorder, and then crush him.

You paint metal just like you would plastic, though you first spray on a coating of primer (available from anywhere you buy paint in spray cans for a couple bucks, at the most). One can of primer will last you for scores of models, even big ones. Use white primer to make the later colors of paint you use to seem brighter, black primer for the opposite effect.
After the primer dries, you paint the models as you would any plastic model.

Just to comment on this further, primer should be used when painting ALL surfaces, not just metal. Plastic models love primer too. Cheers!
