New show starting on Discovery channekl(?) tomorrow night called Cosmos.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cosmos:_A_Personal_Voyage
Its a remake of Sagans classic , narrated and I think written and updated by Tyson.
Really looking forward to it.

It debuted last week on March 9th for those of us in the US/Canada and was quite good. I believe it is showing on Fox, Nat Geo, and a couple of other stations for those of you across the pond.
However, it is not a "remake" but more of a sequel or spiritual successor (I lean toward the latter). In the last part of the first episode, Dr. Tyson shares the story of the first time he met Carl Sagan as a teenager when Sagan invited him to Cornell in an attempt to persuade him to attend the school. It was extremely touching and tugged heavily on my hearstrings and reminded me why I have always looked up to people like Carl Sagan my entire life.

I agree JR. people like sagan and tyson make this world a great place, not for the scientific adavances, but their drive to convince others to pursue knowledge and to make education better.

My favorite part of this was the timeslot they picked.
Scientist 1: "People are stupid... They are believing in all sorts of crazy BS... Look at that Bill Nye debate!"
Scientist 2: "But Americans won't watch this science stuff, how will we get people who need to expand their mind exposed to this... All people want to do is watch sex and fart jokes..."
TV exec: "Family guy is on at 9pm on Sundays... Let's trick people and replace it with science stuff, and get the maker of Family guy to collaborate on it and animate it."
And now when people tune in for Family guy for the next 13 weeks, they will get some science beamed directly into their brains instead of Peter Griffin farting and fighting a giant chicken.
It is an awesome series, the first one was really awesome. I can't wait for the rest.

Our local Fox affiliate in Oklahoma City had a little screw up last week and hit the "local news promo" button a little early.
They ended up running the promotion over the "evolution" portion of the show. Of course Facebook went wild with "Oklahoma Fox edited out evolution because we are a redneck Republican state!1!!1!" posts. It was quite hillarious.
One of their news casters that I know spend the entire week facepalming.

I really liked how they handled it to. They basically took someone who was persecuted not for trying to take down or destroy God, but simply, "if God is infinite, why would his creation not also be infinite?"
But that is super suspicious that they edited out the part which showed documented church persecution and discussed the change of philosophies.

Well said Brother.
Watched the first episode tonight. Didnt go into too much we havent seen or read before but the Cosmic calendar was nicely done.
Very touching piece at the end where Tyson recalls his first meeting with Sagan.
Interested to see the next few episodes.

I was lucky enough to have Sagan and Bill Nye played at my school for science classes. Got to meet Bill Nye as well, pretty awesome dude in person.

Original Cosmos had a lot of good info but it was mind-numbingly boring to sit through. I wish Tyson the best because he knows how to deliver this stuff in an entertaining and engaging manner.
