Sorry if this has been asked already, but if I were to order one of the electronic codices would it count towards the 100 to get the bonus captain? I can't find any reference on the website to whether this would be an issue or not.

Thanks if folks are able to answer.

I dont believe they count, from what I can tell when you select the digital codex it takes you away from GW and to the black library site, at which point its a whole new basket/checkout system.

Hardcopy books go into your cart on the main GW site. E-books have no "Add to cart" option just "Show me more".

It then tells you that the order will be fulfilled by Black Library who have their own checkout.

Thanks for the quick responses. I guess GW must have tapped into something with the free offer. I am seriously considering dropping $100 on their site. I'm usually shopping for cheap models on eBay.

Don't bother the marine will be on eBay shorty, and most likely less than a $100

Well, it's basically $15-25, because if you were going to buy $100 worth of stuff, that's the difference between buying it from GW direct or buying it from a discounter. That's assuming you weren't buying something you can only get from GW direct anyway.

It's free if you spend the money. So if you planned on getting some stuff then bonus, otherwise don't complain about it, this makes utterly no sense to complain about a free item when you buy $100 or more worth of kits.

I bought $100 worth of stuff I was going to buy anyway. Completed that transaction yesterday (Saturday morning). I still can't see the 2nd model on the site anyway. How do you find it? I had a couple more things I needed so figured I'd get it with free shipping.

It's important to remember that some people don't buy GW models because they want to - its an addiction to them. They HAVE to buy them. So anything that encourages them to buy more is a horrible horrible thing to them as they are already selling everything they can on ebay to fuel their addiction.

From what was said earlier in the thread rather than personal experience - when you get the free model, it comes with a code to let you order the 2nd model.

So I was just at my local GW store earlier, picking up a pot of agrax earthsahde specifically.
But as I walked in, the manager was discussing (with another customer), the website, laughing at how the faq's were 'forgotten' and that theres another update scheduled for the website where they will be thrown in. But the excuses he was coming out with for it were just embarassing for GW - the old team thought the new guys were doing it, the new team thought the old team were doing it; thus no one did. Thats pathetic! ( apparantly it took less than 15minutes for them to recieve email complaints informing them about the error lol)

He didnt seem overly impressed when I criticised GW for the full day of downtime that they had started to get a bit white knight on me defending his bosses at all costs then, but tripped up a bit; he stated that GW's customers love to complain, and will always find something to complain about, so it doesnt really matter how good or bad a thing is :S
I had to leave the store at that point as I was ready to blow my lid at the guy LOL I definitely give praise where praise is due, the fact that I have 99% criticism for GW should be indicative that theyre doing something wrong, but instead the clientèle (who should always be right) is written off as a bunch of whiners by the staff that GW employ. He had no acceptable excuse for why they needed 24 hours of downtime for something that is normally done offline and is a quick url changeover. Granted he's a store clerk, but he didnt seem to understand much about this here internet, I supsect his superiors know even less.
He lost some sales by showing his opinion too :/ I was ready to buy stormboyz, ork bomber, how to paint book, some chaos figs for my nephew, some paints and maybe a knight lol.

Not saying there is no problem at GW Head-office, but a store-guy isn't going to know one way or the other. Not anymore than the guy pouring coffee at Starbucks will know Starbucks corporate workings on their online-marketing.

It's not even a question of secrecy. Why would a website/IT-team of a company keep the entire retail-chain informed about who was supposed to update FAQ?

They have indeed had a large quantity of emails and phone calls relating to the absence of FAQs, and a fair few store managers received similar inquiries relating to the new site.

One gathers that the store managers were sent an email relating to the changes explaining/promising that the FAQs will be posted on the site "soon".

Including all kinds of odd procedural details... like the existence of an "old team" and a "new team" and a crosswise misunderstanding of responsibility, and the exact time it took for the first questions to be received, all of which went to hundreds of stores worldwide, but was in turn only conveyed (as far as we know) by one store manager in the UK to a customer asking (who in turn decided to not purchase the stuff he intended to purchase, proving himself how stupid it would've been for GW-HQ to actually send out this kind of "blame-the-other-department"-information in an official retail-memo)?

Hehe, i was more disheartened by his attitude towards his customers tbh.
To suggest that it doesnt matter what GW do because people will moan either way is riddiculous :/
We were talking about the website and how rabid the complaints had been about this and that, but frankly theyre all valid complaints. Gw did some questionable things, and the fans called them on it. No suprise there.

I took it as an indicator of what the company attitude is; (he mustve been trained to behave a certain company way)
And it feels yet again as if they really do think very little of their customers.

Two, you said you were in the store all day bitching about GW... the company he works for... the company that signs his pay cheques... and you expect him to NOT do a bit of whiteknighting?

If you came in to my store and bitched all day long I'd assume you weren't going to buy anything either.

Um, where on earth does it say that?

Hairysticks comes in for pot of paint, sees manager is having a conversation with another customer about the new site. Manager continues said conversation with him, then he chugs a bit too much of the kool-aid and Hairysticks leaves.

Nothing more.

Well, yeah, of course he got annoyed.

If you walked into a McDonalds and struck up a conversation about that pink foam fiasco and lamenting about how terrible the food is, don't you think the staff would also get a bit pissy? No one likes it when you criticize their job.

Oh, my mistake, HairySticks should write in a less confusing way!

But still... you expect a manager of a GW store to do anything other than whiteknight GW when criticism comes up? Half of them are barely even qualified to be in a retail position (the guy who works at my local GW is a good bloke, but he was so obviously unqualified to be a store manager when he started, though he's improved a lot now). I really don't think a store manager for a GW store is representative of anything, it's clear GW don't do sufficient training of their retail staff and allow them a lot of leeway in how stores are run.

What is odd is that HairySticks is giving the GW-store-guy flak both (a) complaining (more or less?) publicly about GW-HQ stupidity and (b) for whiteknighting GW a bit, and not going all the way and burning it to the ground, when HairySticks jumped in with a rant.

What exactly do you want?

From the story, it could just as well be the most reasonable and thoughtful GW-store-employee ever: He was (is) aware of faults and mistakes done at HQ, yet he also won't jump blindly at any random criticisms either and stands up for his company if in doubt. Sounds like a good balance to strike.

GW employees are indoctrinated to behave this way.

There is nothing wrong with his story, you misread the first point of the discussion. HE didn't go in being a mutt, he went in and entered into ongoing conversation.
The issue was the lap dog mentality that put Harry off. not that he went in picking a fight.

( Yes, this is the king of curmudgeons saying this, believe it or not. I feel Harry was honestly justified in his reaction, seeing that Mr Shopjocky was a jerky jerk. The alternative of kicking his slats in was probably not a viable option. )

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.
