Hey everyone i need some help, there are a few big games this weekend (one of them against my brother) and i need some tips.
Im mainly going vs heavy infantry Necrons, Space Marines and Orks with a few tanks thrown in.
Im currently running:
CCS: Medic, Banner, Melta vet, Vox, Straken, MoO and 2 body guards and chimera
3x 10 man Vet squads w/ 3 snipers and Auto cannon, 3 plasma guns and Lascannon, 3 flamers and a Auto cannon in each respective squad.
Lemon Russ Vanquisher/w Pask or Battle tank w/ Pask, Plasma cannon sponsons, Heavy stubber, Lascannon.
Medusa w/ Heavy Flamer and BBS
2x Armoured Sentinels HKM and Lascannons
2x 5 Storm troopers with 2 meltas each

Can someone please refine my army or is it looking ok? Do i need to add anything?
We play around 1750 points but it doesnt matter a whole lot if its +-100 points as long as the armies are the same price.

Vets are best used in Chimeras with either Plasmaguns or Meltaguns to use their good BS of 4.

Marbo could always be useful for his one trick poney tactic (appears, drop demo charge, kill stuff).

I would not recommend taking Pask with the Battle tank, his BS4 will be wasted the moment you fire that battle canon, since everything else is at BS1 the moment you fire an ordinance weapon . Vanquisher would be better, if you got the Pask route.

I would also perhaps, switch the Medusa with the BBS to a Colossus; same point value, but with a longer ranged, AP3 ignore cover weapon which will still allow you to wound basic Necron, Marine and/or Orks on a 2+

Take the banner, bodyguards, vox, melta vet, straken out of the CCS. Use them points to add chimeras to your Vets. And try not to mix roles with your vets; Flamers and Autocannon's dont really go, you will probably find Snipers to be pretty hit and miss and may do nothing at all. Plasma's and Meltas are the preferred choice. Remember that your CCS can take 4 special weapons. And never take pask with a Battlecannon its basically useless, the vanquisher is your best bet with pask with Plasma sponsons or melta doesnt really matter. You will probably find your gonna need more men on the board, 3 troops choices is not really enough when your playing IG, but its all about learning. Hope I helped

What's the point of master of ordnance if you have straken. He's more suited for a platoon anywayz.

Yeah i wasnt sure about the flamers and Auto cannon, my idea for these was to just sit in objectives and use the AC to hopefully pop light transport coming to contest it. The snipers and LC are mainly for taking out heavy tanks from the back, and i do love the idea of that colossus actually so il look into that tonight. Whats wrong with my CCS? Straken cant actually go into a platoon by the way.

Too many points, no role. The medic is wasted points compared to buying a whole new squad, the banner and vox are just terrible upgrades, the MoO and the melta gun have conflicting roles, and Straken is wasted points without melee units nearby to buff. These need work. Snipers are a complete waste of vets, you only really care about 6s to hit so BS 4 isn't very important, and you're almost guaranteed to do less damage than melta/plasma. Flamers are even worse, you're just throwing away points by taking them on a BS 4 unit, and the autocannon will have to snap fire if you want to move the flamers into position. In fact, dump the heavy weapons entirely, vets are there to deliver melta/plasma and that means moving. Replace these squads with vets with 3x melta or 3x plasma in a Chimera or Vendetta.

This is a waste. Pask and additional weapons are useless on a LRBT with an ordnance main gun that forces them to snap fire (which means the plasma can't fire at all). And the heavy stubber is wasted points, it's never going to do anything useful. You could take a Vanquisher with Pask, plasma sponsons and hull LC, but then you're getting dangerously close to the price of a Shadowsword that will out-kill any choice of LRBT variants. If you're taking tanks keep them cheap, basic LR Demolishers with no upgrades are probably the best option.

2x Armoured Sentinels HKM and Lascannons

These are a complete waste. You just paid more points than a Vendetta costs for a unit that isn't a Vendetta. The Vendetta will have more firepower, better durability, and will save one of your poor vet squads from having to walk to melta/plasma range. Replace these with a Vendetta, and then buy 2-3 more of them (once you've stripped out the useless junk from the list you should have points for another Vendetta or two).

What kind of model pool are you looking at? Is this a case of making a best list with what you have, or a case of being able to field anything and trying to find what's best for you? How much proxying can you do?

I ask because I get the feeling that you have a decent 750 point army that you're trying desperately to turn into a 1750 point army by adding in a ton of random stuff to fill points. It would be easier to help if we knew what exactly was going on.

I'm thinking the same thing. The model count is really low which either indicates maximizing a small number of available models or an addiction to high priced IG toys.

Against those baddies, with their AP 5 weapons, I'd go ahead and give your vets a doctrine, either grenadiers or light infantry, getting 4+ carapace armor or camo-cloaks. This will greatly improve their survivability. If you go with the 4+ saves, I'd load up on plasma guns across your squads. The flamers and sniper rifles are just going to ping off their superior armor (and marines/necrons aren't going to get pinned anyway), and flamers will only 4+ against Orks T4 anyway.

Just did the math, your heavy bolters will kill roughly 0.66 Orks in one shooting phase, autocannons ~0.55. Divide that by 3 against marines (0.22/0.19). Get missile launchers instead, they'll each kill 0.55 marines per turn, and be better against vehicles. Use bring it down, if you need to.

If you're spending on the medic, pay the 20 points to get carapace armor, drop the meltas and get plasma guns for their range. Your CCS should be issuing 1stRank2ndRank to your vets when the enemy closes within 24", and put tons of shots down range.

Give the storm troopers plasma i/o meltas. Don't forget they have krak grenades.

If you have a hellhound model, use it. Devil Dog and Bane Wolf variants will wreck marines/necrons, hellhound wil destroy Orks en masse.

I would swap the sentinels over to plasma cannons, which will wreck house against marines and necrons. Only 5 points more than lascannons I think for blast, and still get the +1 on the armor penetration table.

The game will be won and lost by the IG heavy support. If you have a third tank, use it. Leman Russ, Demolisher, Basilisk, Colossus, even the Griffon will add some serious punch. At 1750 points level, you need as many ordnance templates going down as possible.

I'm sure folks will criticize my emphasis on carapace armor in this list. But that is going to be critical to protecting your CCS and vets against that bolter fire. Alternately, like I said, you could opt for camo cloaks, which will help against AP 4 weapons when you're in cover. I like the carapace armor for the benefit in close combat. The harder it is for him to kill your infantry, the harder it will be for him to kill your tanks. Necrons are very points dense, so make sure you focus fire on one squad to bring it down so they don't reanimate.

Hey guys thank you for all your comments, i know im stretching out my list a lot. They are all the models i actually own at the moment, any ideas on what i should get next? Its a very odd list and you all seem to be saying the same thing haha. Master of Ordinance with Straken does seem stupid backwards now that i think about it. The points dont have to be stretched, anything around 1250 is fine as well for different games.

Normally I would say if you want snipers, drop them from your Vets and get ratlings. However, with the new codex on the horizon, might as well wait.

Since codex demons came out I was trying to build a good 1500 IG army , but couldn't build one that would work For a short time when escalation come out , I was thinking about droping w40k totaly , because D weapons were making my deployment longer then the time I played with models , but lucky me esclation&formations were baned from the place I play . I was wondering if there is a good build I could make with the models I own .
Ah and FW is baned here too , so no FW units.
