What was it before? I can't remember. Still no surprise, this is GW. They haven't yet figured out that their customers don't tend to like price hikes "just because"

Gotta pay the $2 for new box art. Besides the model has been out for at least a year without another price increase on it so it was due.
Skriker Automatically Appended Next Post:
Price change wasn't that high here are the differences:
CSM Plastic Squad: from $37.25 to $39.00
Chaos Bikers Box: stays at $40
Chaos Rhino: from $37.25 to $39.00
Chaos Raptors: from $33.00 to $35.00
Termiinator Lord: stays at $24.75
Chaos Termies: stays at $50.00
Chaos Landraider: Can't seem to find the previous price and the new box is $76 which is $1.75 more than the space marine kit.
So the prices rises are minimal and not a massive jump. Annoying to see price increases on any of this as some of the models have been out for only about a year and none of them had any changes made to them except for the box art.

Sad thing is I really like the model. I guess it was one of the ones in the "new Crimson Slaughter models on cover, raise price a couple of bucks" recent roundup. Not "bad' per se (it was only $2) but more annoying.

While it is only a £1 increase in the UK, it is still a price rise of some 20% above inflation on a kit that is relatively recently released.
Characterise it in that context, and it is pretty shoddy, but we've seen far, far worse *cough* Stormraven *cough*

Not really a valid argument. There is a near infinite variety of things in this world that a person may not be affected by, or not partake of. This doesn't exclude that person from criticising those things if they deem them to be unfair or unreasonable.
As I've said before, if we weren't able to see injustice where we weren't directly affected by it, there would be far fewer charities and aid organisations in the world. Now, a £1 increase in a model kit is clearly not an issue of the same order of magnitude as Syria or similar situations, but the mechanisms at work are broadly similar.

It's more the principle behind it, not the amount. i.e. there's no reason to justify a price increase on this kit other than a new supplement that was released and a new cardboard box.

All I'm saying is this is a consumer based company and the consumers hold the power. Until people collectively say enough is enough and I'm not buying it, the cycle just continues.
I work for a similar company. Often we sell less but we make more money overall due to price hikes. The issue is people still buy our stuff even at our ridiculous prices. The collective consumer base has to force the change. Else everyone pony up until the next one, and do it all over again.

Yeah, an interim financial report with falling turnover and profit in every global market might suggest that is finally happening.

GW seems to have moved from a yearly price increase model to one based more on an "as needed" model on specific products. We'll likely see price increased paired with new kits (ala the Space Marines bxox) or new boxes (ala Forgefiend kit) in the future. Automatically Appended Next Post: azreal13 wrote:Yeah, an interim financial report with falling turnover and profit in every global market might suggest that is finally happening.
Actually turn over went up not that long ago (~3.8 to 4.1) but they cut the cost of the inventory recently too (phased out metal models, specialist games seem to be related to it but it's hard to pin it down completely) so it's iffy if it actually went up because they sold more, or they just reduced the size of their average inventory enough to make it go up.

Agreed - and it is. GW is a big company so they know the cost to acquire new business. Personally, I think brick and mortar shops drive the loss. And they are opening up more. In the US, numerous retailers are failing or have failed. Montgomery Ward, cicrcuit city, Jc penny, sears, best buy has been hot and cold. All of these businesses have a ton of fixed costs due to footprint. Why GW wants to go that route I don't know, but I guess they feel their stores bring in enough new players to justify the costs.
Who actually buys minis at full retail though? People do I guess. I support my flgs where I can, but I'm not paying full retail for GW minis. And now we have an official GW store. I don't get it.

My FLGS charges full retail for everything, so because the prices are getting high I tend to only buy "impulse" purchases there and order everything else online since that 20% discount is better and better the more GW charges.

Brick and Mortars do look like GW's biggest financial burden. Even with moving stores to cheaper locations that's money being spent. Pure 3rd party stores and online only sales would definitely increase their profit margin but I feel they might be afraid of losing that visibility they have from having those physical stores.

Maybe it's a cultural thing, but I don't think we're working on the same definition of turnover. All turnover is, is the gross amount of cash coming into the company. You can't manipulate that up or down very easily through clever inventory management (unless you're suggesting they've sold stuff off for scrap I guess) and we only get info on that in the financial reports, so I don't see where you've got those numbers from? (Also, their turnover is still in the 100s of millions bracket, so not sure how your numbers equate to that either)

Europe and US do see turnover slightly differently. I know bc I am US and I work for a French company and my boss is Dutch. Lol - I've had to adjust a lot.
GW needs to decide if they want to be a manufacturer or a retailer. It's very difficult to do both well. They can focus on reducing manufacturing costs and marketing their products and let the flgs fight the retail battle.

I was speaking of inventory turnover, which has to do with how often you sell the average value of your inventory a year (as of the last report GW was basically selling their inventory every quarter). That actually went up not that long ago, but the reasons for that could be varied as mentioned.

Warmachine/Hordes is just as pricey as 40K if not pricier for what you actually get and qualitywise though.

Except the part where it did, not by much, but above inflation.
Price comparisons with Warmahordes are on shaky ground, and suffer from moving goalpost syndrome when parties with vested interests on both sides start discussing it.
Suffice to say, while I play 40K currently, and have no immediate plans to start Warmahordes, I fully appreciate I can get up and running for notably less investment in time and cash from scratch than a player in the reverse situation.

Who buys gw models at rrp? It's the information age people it's simplicity itself to find a site giving discounts.
The only way gw will get the message that these price hikes are unacceptable is if we stop buying from them at full price, I haven't bought direct from gw since 2009 And it's saved me a fortune.
